Electrotechnical standards relevant for the oil and gas industry / 4 Introduction The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) organized a workshop 10 11 May 2012, in London, within the scope of electrical standards and practices for the oil and gas industry for electrical technology specialists of IOGP Members and invited guests. The objectives of the workshop were to: arrange for global networking amongst the specialists review and discuss the available standards for electrical installations, ongoing standards work and existing company specifications related to this discipline evaluate the needs for improvements of available industry, national or regional standards or company specifications and harmonization with international standards in this area evaluate the need for new electrical standards work in the oil and gas industry share company and/or personal experience regarding electrical installations, standards and practices. Within the goal for the workshop was also to identify and prioritize improvements to available standards or the need for new international (IEC) standards in the electrical area for the benefit of the global oil and gas industry. A draft of this report was initially prepared as a basis for this workshop and, following input from this workshop, IOGP has established the Electrical Standards Subcommittee with the same objectives as for the workshop. The Subcommittee has subsequently agreed to complete this document as an IOGP reference report including input from its Members and a benchmarking exercise in 2013. This report should be seen in conjunction with the following IOGP reports: Report 362, Catalogue of international standards used in the petroleum and natural gas industries (February 2012) where a number of IEC standards are identified Report 381, Position paper on the development and use of international standards (March 2010) outlining the importance of IEC standards Report 426, Regulators use of standards (March 2010) including some references to IEC standards Report 450, Benchmarking on the use of internal technical specifications and external standards by some oil & gas companies (February 2011).
