S 3 Renovation to plus- energy- standard schools Rainbach im Mühkreis/Austria S 4 2

Overview The market town of Rainbach is situated 720 meters above sea level in the north of the Province of Upper Austria. From the climatic point of view this region is characterized by its relatively high altitude above sea level and the frequency of defogged days. The market town has about 3100 inhabitants. The structural weakness of the region also marks the financial situation of the market town. S 5 LAGEPLAN The two schools of the market town Rainbach are situated near the market town center on a separate, adequately dimensioned school ground with sufficient open area. S 6 3

From the point of structural engineering it can be called an exemplary building of the late 60s and the early 70s with high heating costs and structural-physical damages due to condensation waters. RECONSTRUCTION INTO A PASSIVE HOUSE Arch DI Ingrid Domenig-Meisinger, A- / Linz domenig@archmore.cc S 31 Reconstruction into a Passive House Linz Makartstraße 30-34 und Richard-Wagner Straße 6 the old building after the renovation S 32 16

History MAKARTSTR. 32-34 RICHARD WAGNER STR. 6 4020 LINZ / OÖ The construction of the building, which is almost 5 decades old, is alright. The exterior walls which were built in 1957 were constructed out of poured concrete walls with a U- value of approximately 1,4 W/m²K. An insulation was later applied to parts of the cellar ceiling. The exterior brickwork, the cellar ceiling, the ceiling of the attic, windows, doors etc. were not in accordance with the current state of the technics and were far from a forward-looking architecture. The renovation will make the building capable of competing. S 33 Aim MAKARTSTR. 32-34 RICHARD WAGNER STR. 6 4020 LINZ / OÖ Cutting of the heating costs to a minimum Optimised airing and building services concept for the best air quality Ecological renovation with renewable resources High degree of pre-fabrication Renovation without disturbance of residents S 34 17

Thermal skin During the planning stage, the thermic skin was determined to avoid all possible weak points and thermal bridges. The project consisting of 50 old flats, was renovated into a passive house from the first floor on and the ground floor to a low energy house (Niedrigenergiehaus). S 35 Architecture outer skin - façade Facade 1310m² Prefabricated wall units A prefabricated wall unit has the dimension of a flat width and floor height. Delivered and mounted as extensive prefabricated parts including windows, sunscreen, and ducts for the ventilation of the living space. S 36 18

Architecture outer skin - facade at the factory will be integrated in the manufactory in the prefabricated wooden construction S 37 Architecture outer skin - facade mounting S 38 19

Architecture Facade - windows Bild: INTERNORM The windows are completed with a triple glazing with a U-value of 0.86 W/m²K and an integrated sun protection. The outer window pane is competed with an active coating for self cleaning. S 39 Architecture outer skin surveying The high degree of pre-fabrication requires exact real measurement details. A conventional measurement would have been too imprecise. The building was surveyed by 3D Laser Scanning. The 3D details were provided with X,Y, Z coordinates by the architecture office and transferred to the timber construction company as 2D details for the element fabrication. S 40 20
