Topic#: 002707 Created: November 2012 Introduction This Tech Note explains installing QI Analyst 8.0. The topics discussed in this tech note are: Installation Guidelines Configuring the QI Admin Database QI Analyst Installation Error Application Versions QI Analyst 8.0 SP2 Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Refer to the QI Analyst 8.0 ReadMe file for specific software and Hardware requirements. Installation Guidelines QI analyst 8.0 provides a single installation process that includes QI Controller and QI Workstation. After installation, you have access to QI Controller and/or QIWorkstation based on the license available and registered in QIAdmin database. Once you start the instalaltion, make sure not to end it prematurely. This will result in an incomplete installation and contribute to an error during next installation. For more details, see the QI Analyst Installation Error section. To start the QI Analyst installation 1. Click the setup.exe file, either by inserting your CD or in the directory where the QI Analyst is located (in case you are using a folder for the installation files). FIGURE 1: RUN SETUP.EXE 2. At the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for QI Analyst, click Next. https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002707.htm 1/17

FIGURE 2: INSTALLSHIELD WIZARD 3. Acknowledge the User License agreement by clicking Yes. FIGURE 3: LICENSE AGREEMENT https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002707.htm 2/17

FIGURE 6: SELECT TYPE INSTALLATION TYPE Important: The custom install has two features, QI Analyst and Chart Services. Only QI Analyst is selected by default. Selecting the Complete option installs both features. You can also choose not to install to the default destination folder. A dialog box displays selected components for installation. 6. Click Next. FIGURE 7: REVIEW SETTINGS The files are upacked and installed (Figure 8 below). When the installation is finished, the Admin Database Options dialog box appears (Figure 9 below). https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002707.htm 4/17

FIGURE 8: SETUP STATUS FIGURE 9: ADMIN DATABASE OPTIONS Configuring the QI Admin Database Choose one of the following Admin Database Options. Click the option to see detailed installation instructions. You can store the QI Admin database as one of the following: Option 1: MS Access Database Option 2: SQL Server Database https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002707.htm 5/17

Option 3: Oracle Database Option 4: Configuration File Exists Note: If you have the config file, you can select Option 4 Configuration file exists and type the config file name. This will save you time during installation. Typically, when installing on a machine assigned to be QICOntroller, you use option 1,2 or 3 and generate a config file storing the admin database connection details. Then when installing on a machine(s) assigned to be QIWorkstation, you can just use option 4 and the config file generated from QIController installation, which will automatically point to the admin database. Option 1: MS Access Database 1. Click the MS Access option. 2. FIGURE 21: INSTALLSHIELD WIZARD COMPLETE After rebooting, you will see the following pop up. FIGURE 22: INSTALLATION PROCESS COMPLETING Your installation is now complete. Configuring QI Analyst Security The QI Analyst configuration options dialog appears. https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002707.htm 13/17

FIGURE 23: QI ANALYST SECURITY OPTION 1. Click the QI Analyst Security option. Important: Once this selection is made and admin database has been initialized, security cannot be changed. This option allows administrators to control all users and rights using the standard QI Analyst model. When using this security, the user will be prompted with a login screen when opening QI Controller / QI Workstation. Integrated Windows Security A second option allows you to tie a Windows NT account to the QI Analyst Group of rights. This allows administrators to leverage the benefits of Windows security (central administration, password aging control, etc.). When using this security, The user will not be prompted with a login screen. The windows user will be automatically logged into QI Controller /QI Workstation. Note: All QI Analyst clients, e.g., Controllers, Workstations, App Server objects, InTouch and Visual Basic must use the same type of security. Other Options It is not required to select Also create a QI Analyst Process Database. This can be done after the installation is completed. Select Also create a QI Analyst Process Database option only when you plan to have a single database acting as both your Admin and Process database. Use the Open this Process database on product launch option when you want the process database to open automatically when logged into QI Controller and QI Workstation. Do not select Also create a QI Analyst Process Database option when you plan to have separate databases for Admin and Process data. 2. Click Next. The Save QI Analyst database configuration file dialog box appears. 3. Check the Save Configuration to File option, and provide a location to store it. This dialog box creates a config file to be saved to a known location. This step is not required for a single node only installation. However, if QI Analyst is intended to be used in multi-node environment, you will be required to use the same Admin database. Creating this file will allow https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002707.htm 14/17

multiple nodes to share one admin database by providing the proper connection. FIGURE 24: SAVE CONFIGURATION TO FILE 4. Click Next and wait a few moments. 5. If you are prompted to reboot, do so at this time. FIGURE 25: INSTALLSHIELD WIZARD COMPLETE After rebooting, you will see the following pop up. https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002707.htm 15/17

FIGURE 26: INSTALLATION PROCESS COMPLETE When the installation wizard doesn't prompt for a restart, it displays another screen where you can choose to view the readme and start the license utility. These tasks are optional. You can uncheck those option and finish the installation. 6. Install any service packs or patches to complete the installation. You can download them from the Wonderware Developer Network (login required). 7. Start the license utility and install the QI license, if necessary. QI Analyst Installation Error If the installation was cancelled for any reason and then resumed, you will see the following error: FIGURE 27: ERROR: COULD NOT LOAD QIARESOURCES.DLL Click OK.
