See the Terms of Use for more information. Topic#: Created: June 2010 Introduction This tech note will explain how to use the following parameters in Configurator General Parameters. Allowable deviation above Start Quantity (%); -1 no limit Allowable deviation below Start Quantity (%) Application Versions Operations and Performance 3.5 MES 4.0 Note: This example uses graphics from Operations and Performance 3.5 but the workflow is the same in MES 4.0. Setting the Allowable Deviations In this example we set the Allowable deviation above Start Quantity (%); -1 no limit and Allowable deviation below Start Quantity (%) to 25 pcs (Figure 1 below). FIGURE 1: ALLOWABLE DEVIATION SETTINGS IN CONFIGURATOR 1. Select the Entity that is going to run the Job. In this example we use the Entity Mixer1. 1/11

2 2. In the General tab select the Capability Jobs can be run on this Entity (Figure 2 below). FIGURE 2: JOBS ON AN ENTITY 3. Click the Job tab and select the parameter Must require quantity be produced to end job? 4. Set this parameter to YES. It is set to NO by default (Figure 3 below). 2/11

4 FIGURE 4: SELECT PROCESS THAT INCLUDES MIXER1 6. Create a work order from this Process and Set the starting quantity to 100. Set the required quantity to 70. This will allow scrap and rework pieces. By setting the Allowable deviation above Start Quantity (%); -1 no limit and the Allowable deviation below Start Quantity (%) to 25 you can run the work order and produce 25 % more or less of the starting quantity which will allow the W/O to be completed. 7. Login to Operator and Mixer1, then start the W/O you created. 4/11

5 FIGURE 5: START THE WORK ORDER 8. Click the Production tab and produce 74 pieces, then try and stop the Job. You see the following message (Figure 6 below). FIGURE 6: WARNING MESSAGE 9. Produce 2 more pieces for a total of 76. The total is within 25% of the starting quantity. You are now able to end the Job (Figure 7 below). 5/11

6 FIGURE 7: COMPLETE THE JOB 10. Restart the W/O and now produce 70 more pcs this will show us that you can produce more pcs that are larger than the Starting quantity. This is due to the parameter Allowable deviation above Start Quantity (%); -1 no limit. 6/11

Open or switch to Supervisor and create a new work order with a starting quantity of 100 and required quantity of Start the Job in Operator and produce 74 and try and stop the Job. You cannot end the Job at this point (Figure 10 below). FIGURE 10: JOB QUANTITY WARNING 14. Now run the Job, produce 29 pcs, and stop the Job. Operator returns the following message (Figure 11 below). 8/11

9 FIGURE 11: JOB SUSPENDED 15. Now restart the JOB and add produce 50 pcs. You will see you cannot produce the pieces because of the deviation parameters. FIGURE 12: CANNOT PRODUCE AGAINST THE DEVIATION 9/11

10 16. Produce 21 pieces. This will now allow you to complete the Work Order because you configured the Deviation parameters to 25% percent above the Starting quantity. FIGURE 13: ALLOWABLE DEVIATION QUANTITY 17. Restart the job and produce 1 pcs. This will put us above the 25. You will see we get the same deviation error as before. 10/11
