Topic#: OpsManage09 Session#: TS107 Created: November 2009 Introduction This Tech Note explains the location of the IntelaTrac log files for the Client, Server, Web Reports and Mobile. It also explains changing the log to different levels in order to capture the appropriate information required for troubleshooting. This is useful when troubleshooting potential issues with the Sync Service, Scheduler Service, IMC, Web Reports Scheduling Engine, and Mobile. Note: Not all messages in the log are indicative of a problem. Contact Technical Support if questions arise. Application Versions IntelaTrac version 3.2 This Tech Note applies to the following files, listed by their node location: Client Serv er SAT.Synchronization.Service.config SAT.Scheduling.Service.config SAT.DTS.Service.config W eb Reports Web.config WebReportsSchedulingEngine.exe.config Mobile Locating Log Files In all cases the log files are found in a \Log folder. Note: This documents references the C: drive, however, the application may be installed to a different drive. Debug 2. Info 3. Warn 4. Error (default) 5. Fatal 6. Off The amount of log messages collected decreases as you go down the list from 1 to 6. Debug collects the most messages and Fatal collects the least. No messages are collected when logging is set to Off. Debug collects Info, Warn, Error and Fatal. Info collects all but the Debug messages and so on down the list. Each IntelaTrac config is set to Error by default. We do not recommend running the system at any level but error for long periods of time in production as the more logs collected the slower the system will run. The Debug level should only be used for short periods of time as it has the potential to slow down the system greatly as well as rapidly use up disk space since the log will grow continually until the level is set back to Error. Modifying Logging Levels Each config file contains a <LoggingSection> element (Figure 5 below): 2/5

3 FIGURE 5: LOGGING LEVEL ELEMENT IN CONFIG FILE The section that determines the logging level is found here. Simply change the Error value to any of the other levels and save the config file. Warning: Open the configs ONLY in Notepad, and save your changes. Once the save is made depending on the config you modified the corresponding service must be restarted. For example, if you modify the SAT.Scheduling.Service.config file, you then restart the IntelaTrac Scheduler service. Modifying Logging Levels on the Handheld Note: Only users with appropriate permissions can change settings. If you have performed an initial transfer on the mobile, and you are required to select a base/role/and login id, then you must also enter your password before clicking Tools to edit the setting. This is necessary in order to authenticate your permission to modify the settings. On the IntelaTrac login screen you will see a Tools icon located on the bottom left corner: FIGURE 6: TAP TOOLS 1. Once the handheld runs through several transfers the log file must be pulled from the handheld via Active Sync and opened on a desktop for viewing.
