Diploma in Counselling Child and Young Person at Renew Training & Development Introduction We are a counselling and training charity with centres in Basildon, Plaistow in East London and Chelmsford. At our Chelmsford site we provide parttime counselling training to Diploma level to work with children and young people, which is accredited by Anglia Ruskin University. As a student with us you will have access to all the University facilities and the benefit of training delivery by an established counselling organisation who have significant experience in providing counselling to children and young people in Essex and East London. The Course The course provides you with the skills and theory to be able to counsel children, young people and young adults. We make use of new technology and counselling research to support your learning. Year 1 The first year will introduce students to basic counselling skills, theory and reflective practice. There are a wide variety of teaching methods employed, with a focus on practical and experiential learning. Students will begin to explore aspects of self-awareness and communication through active participation in groups and reflection, that are fundamental to counselling. Year 2 In the second year of training students will develop and expand their understanding, and skills through group work, video recordings and presentations. Students are introduced to child development and ethical practice. At the end of this year students must pass an additional assessment in order to progress to placement. Students are supported through the placement process. Year 3 and 4 The third and fourth years of training prepare students for professional practise through a programme of casework, clinical supervision and theoretical study. Renew Counselling is able to offer some training placements at our Chelmsford and Basildon centres and within local schools and we have good relationships with other local organisations. Students will be supervised at Renew Training and are required to achieve a minimum of 0 hours of counselling during this time. The importance of personal development is emphasized throughout the course and at this stage it is a requirement for the student to undertake 40 hours of personal therapy with a therapist whose training is congruent with the humanistic approach.
