Important Notice Due to the interference in the 2.4 GHz wireless range, Smart City cannot guarantee quality wireless service in this range. As such, the 2.4 GHz range has been disabled at the Phoenix Convention Center. Wireless is only broadcast in the 5GHz range, better known as 802.11a, 802.11n, and 802.11ac. USB adapters are available for purchase through Smart City Networks on site. We recommend each client check their devices for compatibility prior to arrival on site. Wi-Fi Interference Devices Wi-Fi 802.11 is an unlicensed wireless spectrum operating on frequencies not controlled by the FCC. Thousands of devices can and do use these frequencies without any thought or knowledge of how it affects other Wi-Fi devices, such as the Wi-Fi network installed in this facility. This is one of the key reasons why Smart City cannot guarantee Wi-Fi service and why it is so difficult to manage expected performance similar to what people use at home, the airport, and other public spaces (such as Starbucks and McDonald s). Next, you will find many devices that operate on unlicensed Wi-Fi frequencies often found on the exhibit floor, which cause interference with standard operations of the facility s Wi-Fi network. The following list of devices operates in the 2.4 GHz wireless range, better known as 802.11b and 802.11g. Well-known interference devices (These devices are commonly found on the exhibit floor) Personal Hotspots including MiFi and Jetpack Rogue Access Points of all kinds ipads / Tablets Smart Phones Laptops Personal Computers Smart Televisions / Apple TV Bluetooth devices (any) Microwave ovens Security cameras Remote car starters Wireless speakers Wireless keyboards Wireless mice Remote controls (garage doors, universal remotes, security systems) Walkie talkies Wireless printers Smart City Networks 602-252-1770

Smart City understands that Ping and Traceroute are valuable troubleshooting tools; therefore Smart City s Policy does allow ICMP (Ping & Traceroute) packets sourced from any Smart City network(s). Further, to avoid infection by common Internet worms (Nachi, MSBlaster, LoveSAN, etc.), Smart City has implemented similar filters on the following TCP and UDP port numbers: UDP 137, 138, 402, 1434 and TCP 135, 139, 402, 445, 4444. Customers requiring inbound or outbound access to any of the filtered ports, should contact a Smart City customer service representative in advance of the event with details of the specific requirements so that Smart City may consider the potential of a customized alternative.
