Vehicle Maintenance Facility Fort Campbell, Kentucky General Contractor & Estimator completed construction in September 2013, on the $12.2 million Vehicle Maintenance Facility for the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Ft. Campbell, Ky. This is the third facility J&S Construction has completed at the Ft. Campbell base. The 35,290 square-foot facility consists of a tactical equipment maintenance facility, an organizational storage building, a hazardous waste storage building, a petroleum-oil and lubricant storage building, a tactical unmanned aerial vehicle storage building, an organization vehicle hardstand and a privately owned vehicle parking. These facility types are used for the purpose of maintaining and repairing vehicles, complete with equipment and parts storage and administrative offices. This project was designed to meet LEED Silver requirements by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Environmentally friendly features include: a transpired solar wall panel system, skylights, daylighting tubes, spray foam insulation, air barrier system, radon piping system, low flow water fixtures, energy recovery units, in-floor radiant heating system, occupancy sensors, low volatile organic compounds in building materials and recycled materials. We are making great strides in the area of sustainability and building environmentally friendly projects, said Brad Leimer, project manager and LEED AP with J&S Construction. Sustainable practices are good for the military, good for the Corps of Engineers and are a great value for the taxpayers. One of the key goals of the USACE is to increase energy performance in its new and existing buildings. The energy simulations performed on this project show a 48 percent reduction in energy costs over the baseline building. These figures will translate into significant savings over the lifecycle of the facility. Another goal of the USACE is to increase water efficiency with its buildings by reducing the burden on the water supply and wastewater system. J&S Construction used low flow water fixtures throughout the facility which will save more than 44,000 gallons of water per year. SITE PLAN J&S Construction completed its first tactical maintenance facility in August 2010. That $13 million project resulted in an Outstanding Rating by the USACE for J&S Construction s performance, as well as marking the first LEED Gold Certification at the Corps of Engineers Ft. Campbell base and for the Louisville District. We most certainly enjoy working alongside the Corps of Engineers, said Jack Stites, president of J&S Construction. The government sector is beginning to see how important sustainable construction is and what savings it can actually achieve. We are having more and more opportunities to assist our clients with energy audits, which can show even the smallest of upgrades will pay back for years to come.
