San Juan College to Fort Lewis College TRANSFER GUIDE Welcome to Fort Lewis College! Each year more than 500 new transfer students enroll at Fort Lewis College, and we are pleased that you are considering joining us. This guide will help you make a smooth transition from San Juan College to your degree program at Fort Lewis College. You can use this guide in two ways: If you plan to earn an Associate of Arts (AA) or an Associate of Science (AS) degree at San Juan College before transferring to Fort Lewis College, this guide identifies the courses you need to successfully complete as part of your 60-credit AA/AS degree program. By transferring with an AA/AS degree, you will be exempt from all lower-division general education requirements. If you intend to transfer before completing an AA/AS degree, this guide identifies the courses that will most effectively prepare you for completing your major at Fort Lewis College. While not completing an AA/AS eliminates the general education exemption described above, we have included a listing of San Juan College courses (pp. 12-13) that will fulfill general education requirements at Fort Lewis College. There is not a separate application; all students are considered when they apply for admission. Awards are renewable for four years or 120 total credits, whichever comes first. New Mexico Reciprocal Scholarship (Note: awards are limited) Students with a 3.5 or above cumulative college GPA are eligible for this award, which grants them the in-state tuition rate (approximately $12,000 annual value). Native American Tuition Scholarship Members of federally recognized tribes receive a full tuition waiver, approximately $5,000 annual value for Colorado students/$16,000 annual value for out-of-state students. They receive a full tuition waiver in lieu of any other type of tuition reduction/merit scholarship. >> Fort degree requirements & Liberal arts core Comparison of Fort Lewis College and San Juan College Requirements Catalog in effect for transfer students The catalog in effect when the student transfers to Fort Lewis College will govern a student s graduation requirements. Previous catalogs may be used only when specified by a particular articulation. Degree requirements Candidates for bachelor s degrees must complete three elements in their academic programs: requirements Major requirements Free electives. Many students choose to use electives to complete the requirements for a minor or teacher licensure. Each candidate for graduation must complete a minimum of 120 credits, with a minimum Fort Lewis College cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for courses within the major and minor course of study. Among the minimum 120 credits required for the degree, 45 credits must be upper-division (300- and 400-level) courses. San Juan College requires one additional course. No difference. San Juan College requires one additional laboratory. Lower-division This program is similar to San Juan College s general education program, but some differences do exist (see p. 11). Upper-division The Fort Lewis College also includes two upper-division courses called Education for Global Citizenship that must be taken at Fort Lewis College. These multi-disciplinary courses encourage students to develop an awareness of global relationships by exploring interconnections and responsibilities, critically analyzing global problems, synthesizing knowledge, and developing advanced communication skills.
