PUBLISHING A CONTEST TO A FACEBOOK FAN PAGE To begin, you will need to have a contest already created and have admin rights (or login credentials to a Facebook account with admin rights) to a Facebook fan page. If you do not have a fan page, or have access to an account, check out the section in this guide on how to create one. Log into AMP Contesting and click on the Pencil icon next to the contest you wish to publish to Facebook. Click on the login link and input your Facebook account credentials (or the credentials of the Facebook account containing admin rights to the fan page you want to publish to). Upon logging in with your Facebook credentials, the page will change to display all of the fan pages that your account has admin rights to. Note: Only 1 (one) contest can be published to a fan page at any time. Publishing a contest to a fan page that already has a contest will override the previously published contest. You may publish a contest to as many individual fan pages as you wish (you will need to have admin rights to each of them), but only 1 contest per fan page at any time. Under the Optional Settings tab, click on Publish Options. You will be taken to the Publish Options page. Click on the checkbox next to Facebook to open up the Facebook modal. From here, publishing is a snap! Simply click on the checkboxes to the left of any or all of the fan pages you wish to post this contest on and then click on the Publish button. The contests will then be published to the selected fan pages. Publishing may take a few moments. Once publishing has completed you will be returned to the AMP Contesting Home Page. You may also click on the Require Like button next to any or all of the fan pages in order to require anyone wishing to participate in the contest to first Like your fan page. This is an effective way to increase the number of Likes on your fan pages. Important: It is illegal and against Facebook s Terms of Service to post a status update to the effect of Like our page for an entry into the contest if the contest or promotion is being run directly through Facebook. However, it is okay to require a Like of your fan page to enter a contest being run by a third party application (such as AMP Contesting). For more information on this, please visit Version 1.3 Page 5
http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelin es.php. Now that you have a contest published to a fan page, let s visit one of the pages to see how it has changed. Once you publish a contest to a fan page, the AMP Contesting app will be added to the fan page. This is how you and/or your fans will access contests posted to your fan page. Clicking on the AMP Contesting app link will open the AMP Contesting app on your fan page and display the contest information. See pages 6 & 7 of this guide for information on renaming the Contest tab on your fan page. Version 1.3 Page 6
automatically import a user s information into the AMP Contesting contest. A couple of things to note here: If you have a header image uploaded in your contest, that image will display at the top. If no header image was uploaded, the contest name will be displayed instead (as is the case here). If you require fans to Like your page before being able to participate in the contest, the Click LIKE to Enter banner will display below the title/header. Users will need to click on the Like button in order to continue. Once the Like button has been clicked, the banner will change to: REMOVING/RENAMING CONTESTS AND CONTESTING APP ON FAN PAGE There are two ways to remove a contest from your fan page. The text below the Enter Now banner is pulled directly from the Welcome Page text from the contest. Now, click the Enter Now button (remember, you may have to Like your own page to do so if you required liking ). The screen will refresh and your contest will be displayed within Facebook. From here you may interact with, and participate in, the contest just as you could from within a browser. Note: Users will still need to register for your contest and/or sign in to participate. Facebook will not The first way is done through the AMP Contesting admin. All you have to do is un-check any of the checkboxes on the Publish Options page and then click on Publish. AMP Contesting will then remove the contest from any of the fan pages that you deselected. It will also remove the AMP Contesting app link from your fan page as well. This is the recommended method for removing contests from your fan page. The alternative method for removing contests is through Facebook itself. To do this you will need to log in as your fan page. To do that, click on the dropdown arrow next to the word Home, located next to your name in the top-right corner of Facebook. Version 1.3 Page 7
Then, under the Use Facebook As list, choose the name of the fan page you wish to remove the contest from. Once you have signed in to use as your fan page, click on the Edit Page button. You may also remove the app from the fan page menu by clicking on the x next to the app name. On the left side of the page you will see a tab called Apps. Click on the Apps tab. Find the AMP Contesting app in the list of apps and click on the Edit Settings link. A pop-up will appear that will allow you to rename the app or remove it. These methods are available but not recommended. Removing a contest like this will not communicate back to AMP Contesting that it has been removed. The AMP Contesting admin will still list the contest as being published to the fan page. CAVEATS AND NUANCES Due to the nature of AMP Contesting, the AMP Contesting Facebook app, and the methods in which Version 1.3 Page 8
Facebook interacts with them, there are some caveats and nuances to the system that you should be aware of. You may only publish ONE (1) contest to any individual fan page. If you want to publish a contest to a fan page, you need to have a Facebook account that has admin privileges for the fan page. Even though you require Like to enter, once any user enters the contest area inside Facebook they can technically copy and paste the URL in an email or on their wall and anyone can then enter the contest without having to first Like your fan page by clicking on that link. This is a known limitation. If you mark a contest that is published to one or more fan pages as Inactive or Delete within AMP Contesting, the fan page app will display a message to users attempting to access the contest letting them know that the contest is no longer available. Members attempting to access the inactive contest via a direct link will be presented with a 404 error. Syndication and Publish to Facebook is a 2- step process. You cannot do both at the same time. If you are trying to syndicate a contest you MUST click on Publish in order for the syndication changes to take place. Clicking on Publish will return you to the home page of AMP Contesting. You will then have to go back into the contest and go to the Publishing Options page to publish your contest to your Facebook fan page. When you land on the page you will be presented with six possible choices: Clicking on any of these six options will change the tile, presenting you with some basic questions about your organization relating to your selection. CREATING A FACEBOOK FAN PAGE To begin creating your fan page, log into your Facebook account and then navigate to the following URL: http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php Take a few minutes and click through all six of the tiles. Look through each category and the basic option sets they present and find the one that best Version 1.3 Page 9
exemplifies what your organization is all about. For example, if you are a radio station, you would most likely want to use the Entertainment tile and choose Radio Station from the category drop-down menu. After clicking Get Started, you will be taken to another setup page, broken down into three steps, allowing you to provide more in-depth information regarding your organization and fan page. However, you could also make a Fan Page for an individual personality on your radio program by clicking on the Artist, Band or Public Figure tile. However you choose to customize your page is completely up to you and will not impact your ability to post contests to your Fan Page. Try to choose options that are most related to your organization in order to increase traffic to your fan page. Once you have found the tile best suited for your needs, fill out the basic info in the tile, check the box agreeing to Facebook s Terms, and then click on You can skip any or all of these steps and come back to them at a later time if you wish. The first step allows you to upload an Image or Photo which will be used as your fan page s profile picture. This picture can be changed as often as you like.. Version 1.3 Page 10
Step two allows you to Invite any of your Facebook friends to like your fan page or you may import a contact list and Facebook will send each of the contacts on your list a message inviting them to come check out your fan page. Step three allows you to provide some more basic info regarding your organization. Here you can list your org s website URL and provide a small blurb letting visitors know what your org is all about. Once you are finished, click Continue to go to your fan page. Here is an example of what a fan page looks like when it is first created if you were to skip all of the basic info steps: Notice that since the Basic Info options were skipped in this example, Facebook lists them on the fan page Get Started wall, allowing you to go back and provide the info at any time. Now that you have a fan page, you will want to invite as many of your friends as possible to come view your page and also like it. You will want as many people as possible to click like on your page. Whenever someone likes your page, Facebook will let all of their friends know that they have liked it, and that will bring even more people to your page, effectively turning all of your fans into advertisers for your fan page. Also, people who like your page will receive updates, including new contests, that you post to your fan page. Now that we ve covered how to create your own fan page, what if your organization already has a fan page created? If they do, in order for you to begin posting contests to that page, all you need to do is have admin rights for that page. To get admin rights, all you need to do is contact the owner of the page and have them grant your Facebook account with admin rights and then you will be able to post contests to that page. Your Facebook account can have admin rights to as many fan pages as you like, you are not limited to just one, so do not be concerned if you find yourself needing to create, or have admin rights to, multiple Facebook fan pages.
