The Testing Center provides information about the Temple College program of Credit by Examination. The Testing Center is located on the second floor, Room 1465, of One College Centre. Testing Center Temple College 2600 South First Street Temple, TX 76504 Telephone (254) 298-8586 Equal Education Opportunity Temple College does not discriminate on the basis of gender, disability, race, color, age, religion, national origin, or veteran status. Credit by Examination A student who is qualified by experience or previous training may take a special examination to establish college credit in some courses. Temple College provides opportunities for students to receive college credit by examination through four methods: 1. College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP) 2. International Baccalaureate (IB) 3. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) 4. DSST (formerly DANTES) Page 3 8/3/2015

Credit by Examination Student Policies and Procedures 1. The examinee must be a current student at Temple College in order to receive credit for a Credit by Examination test. Students must complete one semester at Temple College before any Credit by Examination is posted on the transcript. Credits earned through Credit by Examination will be posted on the student's transcript either during the current semester, if the student is currently enrolled at TC, or during the next semester in residence following the examination. 2. AP and IB examinations are administered at the student s high school and score reports should be sent to the Testing Center if the student plans to attend Temple College. 3. Currently, CLEP and DSST examinations are only offered through the Temple College main campus. CLEP exams are scored by The College Board. DSST exams are scored by Prometric, Inc. 4. CLEP and DSST policies and requirements are established independently by each participating institution. Students who plan to transfer to another college should contact that institution for specific information regarding its CLEP and DSST policies. 5. CLEP and DSST examinations may be attempted one time in any approved course. 6. Students may not attempt a CLEP or DSST examination for any course in which the student has previously completed and/or received credit. 7. Students attempting a CLEP or DSST exam must have successfully demonstrated TSI eligibility for the specific Credit by Examination course(s) prior to completing registration for the examination. 8. Students shall meet all co-requisite/pre-requisite requirements for the course before attempting the corresponding CLEP or DSST examination. Department Chairs may approve a student to take an examination who has not met appropriate corequisite/pre-requisite requirements. 9. The College Board sets the examination fee for CLEP exams. Prometric, Inc. sets the examination fee for DSST exams. Examination fees are paid directly to the testing companies, by credit card only, at the time of testing. There is no refund of examination fees even if the student did not test. Page 4 8/3/2015

10. Administration fees for CLEP and DSST examinations must be paid prior to testing. Administration fees are paid to the Cashier located on the first floor of One College Centre on the Temple campus. Examinees must bring their payment receipt to the Testing Center. 11. Administration fees may be refunded if the examinee did not test. Refund requests must be submitted to the Testing Center in person within 30 days of the original payment date listed on the payment receipt. The original payment receipt issued by the Cashier is required to process a refund request. Refund requests will not be processed if the request is made more than 30 days after the original payment date or if the original payment receipt is not provided. 12. Registration information, procedures, and fee schedules are available in the Testing Center. 13. Completion of at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for a degree must be done by completing classes at Temple College. That 25 percent cannot be earned through Credit by Examination. Page 5 8/3/2015

College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Program The Advanced Placement (AP) examinations are offered once a year in May, usually in high schools that offer college-level courses based on AP course descriptions. Each high school that gives the examinations sets its own registration deadline (no later than March) and collects fees. Students should contact their local high school counseling center for additional information. If no high school in the vicinity is administering AP examinations, students should write for information, by February 1st, to AP Services, CN6671, Princeton, NJ 08541, or call (609) 734-3800. DSST Credit by Examination Testing Program The DSST Program (formerly known as the DANTES Program) is a college credit by examination testing program provided by Prometric Inc. Colleges, universities, and corporations use DSST to measure knowledge in a particular subject area. Based on the achievement of a passing examination score, candidates can receive college credit and continuing education credit to speed themselves to competency and life changing credentials. Non-traditional returning adults, corporate trainees, as well as military members use DSST on a regular basis.
