Private House or Flat A KNX installation in a private home or a flat makes it possible to control the lighting, blinds and heating. Furthermore it enables specific energy savings by recording and displaying the consumption of individual devices and rooms. Active energy savings thanks to intelligent components! Solution: By connecting KNX Energy Meters and Switch Actuators, it is possible to record the consumption of individual loads, load groups and entire rooms. Moreover, it is possible to programme individual energy-saving functions such as dimming, switching and scene retrieval. If certain threshold values are exceeded, this means alarms can be triggered and displayed on the Touch Panel, or loads and load groups are switched off automatically and directly. Advantages: KNX Energy Meters measure the individual consumption of your three channels as well as measuring the total consumption and providing this information via the bus. The internal clock attaches a time stamp to all measured data, which allows precise time allocation. By combining KNX Energy Meters and Switch Actuators, it is thus possible to design an individually adapted energy-saving system which actively accesses all the components of the KNX installation, and permits not only differentiated energy measurements but also active energysaving modes. Visualisation The Smartphone displays the energy consumption of the individual rooms (sockets and lighting). Knowledge of the energy consumption provides awareness and makes it possible for you to estimate whether your own energy consumption is high or low. This is the first step in taking control of your energy usage and providing incentives for reducing consumption. Next step is to set threshold values on the KNX Energy Meter, and if they are exceeded then part of the room lighting will be switched off. The requirements for energy management are also more exacting you may also wish to include the use of gas and water in your consumption recording, for example. Transparent consumption monitoring is also a feature of maximum living comfort ment of gas and water consumption and display this on Touch Panels incorporated into the system. Gas and water meters are connected to a SIM Module, and incorporated into the KNX installation using the KNX Metering Gateway. Advantages: It is not just the energy consumption that is recorded and documented with precise separation between the devices, groups and rooms gas Solution: In this case, the important components of the KNX installation for consumption measurement are the KNX Energy Meter and the KNX Metering Gateway. Modbus-based pulse measuring devices are used in order to also allow measureand water are also integrated into the consumption display, thus turning the connected Touch Panels into true energy efficiency cockpits. Visualisation The Touch Panel displays the electrical energy consumption of the individual rooms or areas as well as the total energy consumption. Gas and water consumption is also displayed. Knowledge of the energy consumption provides awareness and makes it possible for you to estimate whether your own energy consumption is high or low. This is the first step in taking control of your energy usage and providing incentives for reducing consumption. It is possible to set threshold values on the KNX Energy Meter; if they are exceeded part of the room lighting will be switched off, for example, meaning that the room will only have a basic lighting level. Office Floor On a floor of an office building, efficient energy management involves determining and displaying the energy consumption of the lighting as well as the gas and water consumption. Furthermore, monitoring the grid quality makes it possible to ensure the operational safety of all IT devices. Monitoring of the grid quality and detailed consumption recording provide for efficient working conditions Solution: An iem3150 Meter to record the energy consumed by the lighting, a PM3255 Meter to determine the grid quality and a SIM Module measure gas and water consumption via impulse. Furthermore the devices need to be connected each other via Modbus. By also connecting the KNX Metering Gateway to the Modbus line, the data can be configured easily using the templates supplied and then transmitted to the KNX bus. The consumption data is then conveniently displayed for Facility Management on a Touch Panel in their offices. Incoming alarms triggered by fluctuations in the grid quality are also displayed. Pre-installed templates and freely addressable data points facilitate configuration Advantages: In addition to KNX Energy Meters, the connection to Modbus opens up a whole range of other meters for comprehensive energy management in buildings. Various RS485 Modbus devices can be connected to KNX to ensure that consumption can be monitored appropriately to your specific needs and in the detail you require. Connecting a SIM Module also makes it possible to determine and visualise gas and water consumption. The KNX Metering Gateway is also suitable for retrofitting or for retrospectively connecting existing Modbus devices to KNX. Pre-installed ETS templates with the 20 most frequently required values simplify and speed up configuration, as the Modbus register addresses are mapped automatically. In addition to the values in the pre-installed templates, 40 further data points can be transmitted by entering the relevant Modbus register address. Up to 10 meters can be read using one KNX Metering Gateway. Measuring devices from other manufacturers can also be incorporated. This makes the KNX Metering Gateway unbeatably cost-effective when using more than one meter. Visualisation The Touch Panel displays the consumption of electrical energy in individual rooms as well as the total energy consumption. Gas and water consumption is also displayed. This gives you an overview of the total consumption on the floor. The PM3255 Meter additionally provides information about the grid quality (cos phi), and thus about the availability of the IT system. The Touch Panel also shows any alarms which are active. Office Building Intelligent KNX solutions also permit comprehensive energy management throughout whole office buildings. In this case, the individual floors are equipped as shown in the previous example, and grouped together centrally in Facility Management. Overview of the entire office building complete and floor by floor! Solution: An iem3150 Meter installed on each floor records the energy consumed by the lighting, a PM3255 Meter determines the grid quality and a SIM Module measures gas and water consumption via pulse, and are all connected to each other via Modbus. One KNX Metering Gateway per floor collects the measured data and transfers it to the KNX bus. All the floor data is collected via KNX, and can be called up both centrally in Facility Management and also on each floor Touch Panel. Advantages: A KNX Metering Gateway can scan up to 10 meters, which means either 10 detailed measurements can be recorded for each floor, or the gas and water consumption can be recorded centrally at the building connections and then the lighting consumption and grid quality can be registered on four floors using one KNX Metering Gateway. The 40 freely addressable data points offer extra configuration options which can be used in addition to the pre-installed ETS templates in order to select individual measured data. Visualisation The Touch Panel displays the consumption of electrical energy of a whole area as well as the total energy consumption. Gas and water consumption is also displayed. This gives you an overview of the total consumption of the building. The Touch Panel also shows any alarms which are active.
