Welcome to the 2 nd Annual HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit Sponsored by: Wide Road Entertainment and ViperNet International HEALTHY TRUCKING Association of America Omni Hotel at CNN Center Atlanta, Georgia February 2-4, 2010 ATLANTA 2010 We carry healthy solutions

A Great Success Story The 2009 HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit In response to the pressing need for improved driver health, in February 2009 the HTAA hosted what has proven to be one of the most important conferences to ever take place in the trucking industry---the groundbreaking HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The first event of its kind, the paradigm HTAA Summit brought trucking industry leaders together with health and wellness experts and offered real solutions for driver health challenges. The response was tremendous, as many of the country s most respected trucking fleets came together and joined the HTAA s efforts to improve the health of the industry. YOU are now an important part of the Success Story The 2010 HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit The 2010 HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit once again serves as the year s single most important event for improving the health of the trucking industry, as even more industry leaders join this unprecedented industry-wide effort to make a real difference. Truly an event that no Safety or Human Resources executive should miss, the 2nd Annual HTAA Summit once again provides valuable education and insight on the health issues facing the trucking industry and arms attendees with approved programs for addressing hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea, influenza, obesity, and other important driver health and wellness concerns. ATLANTA 2010 We carry healthy solutions

The Industry-Wide Situation Industry-Wide Problem Professional drivers still make up one of the unhealthiest occupational groups in the country. With alarming rates of hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and obesity, to name a few, and a tragic average life expectancy of less than 60 years of age, the job is literally killing our nation s drivers. As responsible leaders in the trucking industry, we must do something to help our drivers get healthy and live longer lives. Industry-Wide Challenge Last year the Associated Press released a story titled Deadly Toll Sick Truckers causing wrecks, which was based on a 30-page GAO report. The subsequent Congressional hearing made the unhealthiness of professional drivers a national public safety concern. With precedents already in place supporting plaintiffs holding trucking companies responsible for damages caused by their unhealthy drivers, we know that if trucking industry leaders don t come together and act to address this situation, then it will be left to government agencies, civil judges and personal injury attorneys to establish the standards by which the trucking industry will be governed. With the help of Summit attendees, the HTAA is taking the lead in confronting this industry-wide challenge. Industry-Wide Changes: CSA 2010 In 2010 new changes in standards regarding driver safety issues will be handed down by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) via the installation of Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010, (CSA 2010). CSA 2010 is a FMCSA initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce commercial motor vehicle related crashes, injuries and fatalities. It will introduce a new enforcement and compliance model that will empower the FMCSA and its State partners to make contact with carriers to check for potential safety problems before crashes occur. Dr. Maggi Gunnels, Director of Medical Operations for the FMCSA, will be available to answer important questions about CSA 2010 and discuss commercial driver health and safety from the Federal perspective. 2010 HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit

SLEEP DISORDERS SESSION Managing OSA: Best Practices for Fatigue Risk Management Duke Naipohn, CRT, RPSGT CEO Sleep Pointe/Somnograph In 1997, Mr. Naipohn was serving in the US Army and was on his way to medical school and a career as an Army combat surgeon. All that changed, however, when the medical director of a Kansas City hospital sleep lab asked him to serve as the interim manager of the sleep program. Mr. Naipohn quickly noticed two things: many of the patients were coming from distant rural communities and most of those patients had driven sleep-compromised for their sleep study. He took this concern to the hospital, but was told there was little that could be done. With his entrepreneurial spirit in high gear, Mr. Naipohn borrowed a small amount of money from his friends and family and hit the road with a mission to: 1. Develop a significantly different service model for sleep services 2. Extend reach to rural communities 3. Develop an improved outcomes process within the sleep diagnostic services industry. Mr. Naipohn recognized the need to bring the service to the patient, rather than have a sleep-compromised patient drive several hours to get tested. Armed with a business model that focused on mobile sleep testing, Mr. Naipohn began traveling to rural hospitals across the Midwest, offering the same quality sleep equipment, technicians, and services available at larger inner-city sleep labs. With a willingness to service the needs of physicians and patient regardless of location, Mr. Naipohn s model was an immediate success and Somnograph Sleep Diagnostic Services and Sleep Pointe were born. Now eleven years later Mr. Naipohn s company has performed over 110,000 sleep studies and operates in over 50 labs across the nation. He supervises all clinical activities and provides leadership for the fellowship and research programs.
