Making a mural asks children to share common experiences while respecting the space of others. Then the children use art materials to make pictures for the murals. Ask the children to put lots of details into their pictures. Each class can hang up their murals outside their rooms for parents to see. For younger classes you can do a handprint mural. Engaging in meaningful conversation about Murals If using foil line the pans with foil before children make a design. Have the children make a design with the beads in the pans. Once children have made the design with the beads in the pans. Heat oven to 400 and bake for 20 minutes. Science Rocks: Explore how properties can change. The teacher reads the book Lots of Dots before activity. Then the children can create their own artwork using the dot sponges. Teachers can make a book out of children s artwork. Develop listening and auditory memory. The children can move the various colors of ice on the papers and notice if they see anything happening. See if any of the children s colors blended together on their paper to make new colors. If outside have the children explore various places of the playground. Math Counts: Create simple patterns and designs.
