July 2014 Week of 6-30 Chalk Exploration Objectives Materials Strengthen and refine small muscle skills. bucket of Chalk paper (Darker Construction paper) cups water Can be done inside and outside. Art Lesson Plan Twos, Preschool, and Kindergarten Prep Week of 7-7 Make a class Mural Observe and describe features of artwork. big piece of butcher Paper crayons markers scissors glue Week of 7-14 Melting Bead Experiment with art materials. baking pans various sizes (for individual sun catcher use a muffin tin) beads oven foil (optional) Week of 7-21 Lots and Lots of Dots Use art materials purposefully and creatively. Need book Lots of Dots, Craig Fraizer book orange, green, yellow, red and blue paint bowls or plates for paint dot sponges Week of 7-28 Mosaic Tiles Recognize and produce patterns and designs. mosaic tiles light table (if available) Activities Learning outcomes Before going outside make sure to have water. The children can use the chalk to color and make pictures. The children can also explore the difference between wet and dry chalk while outside. Make purposeful marks and letters. The children can come up with a theme or it can go with your lesson plan topic. Explain to the children what a mural is. Making a mural asks children to share common experiences while respecting the space of others. Then the children use art materials to make pictures for the murals. Ask the children to put lots of details into their pictures. Each class can hang up their murals outside their rooms for parents to see. For younger classes you can do a handprint mural. Engaging in meaningful conversation about Murals If using foil line the pans with foil before children make a design. Have the children make a design with the beads in the pans. Once children have made the design with the beads in the pans. Heat oven to 400 and bake for 20 minutes. Science Rocks: Explore how properties can change. The teacher reads the book Lots of Dots before activity. Then the children can create their own artwork using the dot sponges. Teachers can make a book out of children s artwork. Develop listening and auditory memory. The children can move the various colors of ice on the papers and notice if they see anything happening. See if any of the children s colors blended together on their paper to make new colors. If outside have the children explore various places of the playground.
