Let them see us 2003 photography Let them see us is series of portraits of Polish homosexual couples, who went for a walk holding hands. The pictures of the exhibition were used as a part of a billboard campaign under the same name.
Warsaw 2005 photography Warsaw is a series of pictures showing a lonely plastic reindeer s journey through a huge city. The series is a symbolic and absurd history of somebody who is different and lonely.
THE MARRIED WOMEN 2006 photography/video work by Karolina Breguła and Ola Buczkowska The married women is a series of portraits of two women, friends, who stay in a very close relationship to each other, and who are founding in their friendship something, what they can t find in their relationships with men. The authors, by photographing themselves, wanted to show that not only a picture of their friendship, but also relationships between all women.
ALL I CAN SEE IS THE PALACE 2006 collage All I can see is the Palace is a series of 50 works done in the collage technique in the year of the 50-anniversary of The Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw. It portraits The Palace as an observer of everything that has happened in the world and Poland during the 50 years of its existence. It shows it in the context of events and icons of the past years. The project was meant to make the people stop accusing the building for it s inglorious roots and finally accept it as it is.
LOVEBOOK 2006 photography/video Lovebook is a series of works taken with a mobile phone camera. Small sized mobile phone pictures are artificially enlarged to the exhibition purpose. This process caused the intense blur. The purposeful procedure of destroying the image emerges the unreal shapes which can be perceived as a night dream. It was loneliness, emptiness, longing and despair which I meant to emphasize in my pictures. The snatches of life I tried to form could be described as a stream of consciousness rather than a sequence of down to earth approach to life.
66 conversations about contemporary art 2007 text 66 conversations about contemporary art are the record of my 66 interviews with people who are not professionally connected with art. By conversations I try to recognize the testes and needs of a person who is not prepared to read art.
VIDEO CAMERA 2007 video Video camera is a film in which I recite video camera manual in all European languages at the same time presening its contents by moving my hands. My aim is to show video camera as a carrier the character of which is so documentary that each presentation done by means of it is comprehensible intelligible and obave the linguistic borders. MY LITTLE PROFESSIONAL APPEAL 2008 video I created the movie when Hoza Gallery (a private flat gallery on the fourth floor of a house placed at the end of a backyard, behind a locked gate) invited me to present my works. It was the time when I started to think about the dialog between art and the people, who are not particularly interested in it. I decided to take the opportunity to present my point of view to the group of artists gathered in the gallery.
good neighbors 2007/2008/2009 actions Good neighbors is a photo and video documentation of my eight visits to the eight neighboring countries. In each I was making a different neighborly gesture as usually the people living close do. The neighbors borrow sugar or baking powder from each other, water the plants or walk the dog when a neighbor is away, they sometimes ask each other for coffee or watch tv together. Such situations were the subject of my actions. The aim of my project is to capture the contemporary mutual relation of the societies living very close.
Artistic emergency service 2008 action I am sorry that art is so often helpless against problems of everyday life. I am so sorry that it is so freaking cold on the railway station in Kielce*. I don t want to be indifferent to the tragedies happening around me. I m strongly determined to face them. It is my duty as an artist to bring the Artistic Emergency Service into existence. It will use old indispensable means to struggle with small distresses. If it is necessary I will not hesitate to contradict the image of an artist as charlatan or holy creator and use my artistic tools in a trivial way deprived of the magic. * There is a phrasal verb in Polish Piździ jak w Kieleckim na dworcu (it is as cold as on the railways station in Kieleckie) which is used in the whole country meaning it is bitterly cold. I wish my work to serve the human.
regular levitation 2009 video Regular levitation is a series of short films dealing with the insignificance of the everyday life and the human need to escape from it. It contains pictures of short scenes spying annonymous single characters who seem to be drawn from their normal day for a moment. All the characters` moves show an odd and absurd silent conspiracy which is to make them be able to fly away. Unfortunately, the only flight that thay are able to give themselves is the levitation that turns out to be nothing more than a holy suffering.
Summer in the middle 2010 installation Summer in the middle was a minimalist sculpture in a form of a big warmed up white cube that was put at a socialistic square in the centre of Warsaw in the middle of winter. Inside the cube there were four projections of documentary movies showing the same square in the middle of summer. The project was upposed to give the illusion of moving in time into summer as well as comment on the coldness of the surrounding architecture and influence consciousness of the public space.
Telescope 2010 installation The project is taking up a subject of difficulties in relations between the people of different nations and cultures. The telescope, which is placed in a viewing point of the city, is working through surprise. It unexpectedly confronts the viewer with a nice and friendly person of a different nation or culture. The telescope is putting its audience in the uncomfortable situation by forcing them to an unplanned and maybe unwanted contact. At the same time it shows what is hiding behind the curtain of fear for the unknown.
Art lover 2010 installation The project is a picture of a person, everyman, who is not an expert on art. Although he often understands it in a different way than the artists and the critics suggest, it gives him a real pleasure to commune with art. The picture is presented as a big format light box in the public space in the context of a big and recognizable art institution.
Art translating agency 2010 internet site Internet translating agency is an internet site which helps everybody who has a problem with understanding any piece of art. The agency will collaborate with translators - art lovers who will suggest their own interpretations. All questions and answers will be available for all the users of the page.
