Students MUST submit a complete transcript of their speech at the beginning of the lesson on the 23/11/15. THIS IS AN ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENT. Failure to do so will lead to the student being selected first to present their speech. Students will be selected randomly to present. Any student that is unable to present on the day will be subject to the one-day late penalty of 50%. ABSENCE / MISADVENTURE INSTRUCTIONS If you are absent from school on the day the task is to be completed you are required, on your return to school, to obtain an absentee form from the Year Coordinator, complete the form and attach any documentation and submit the form together with the assessment task to the KLA Coordinator. If your reasons for not sitting the task are deemed unacceptable, you will incur a penalty of 1 day late 50%; 2 days late 0 marks awarded. CONTEXT FOR THE TASK: English Standard Module B: Close Study of Text This module requires students to engage in detailed analysis of a single text. It develops students understanding of how the ideas, forms and language of a text interact within the text and may affect those responding to it. Students engage with the text to respond imaginatively, affectively and critically. They explore and analyse particular characteristics of the text, considering how these shape meaning. They also consider the ways in which these characteristics establish the text s distinctive qualities. Composition focuses on meaning shaped in and through the text. English Advanced Module B: Critical Study of Texts This module requires students to engage with and develop an informed personal understanding of their prescribed text. Through critical analysis and evaluation of its language, content and construction, students will develop an appreciation of the textual integrity of their prescribed text. They refine their own understanding and interpretations of the prescribed text and critically consider these in the light of the perspectives of others. Students explore how context influences their own and others responses to the text and how the text has been received and valued. OUTCOMES BEING ASSESSED: 1 A student demonstrates understanding of how relationships between composer, responder, text and context shape meaning. 2. A student demonstrates understanding of the relationships among texts. 3. A student develops language relevant to the study of English. 4. A student describes and analyses the ways that language forms and features, and structures of texts shape meaning and influence responses. 5 A student analyses the effect of technology and medium on meaning. 6. A student engages with the details of text in order to respond critically and personally. 7. A student adapts and synthesises a range of textual features to explore and communicate information, ideas and values for a variety of purposes, audiences and contexts. 11 A student draws upon the imagination to transform experience and ideas into text demonstrating control of language 12 A student reflects on own processes of responding and composing IN ORDER TO UNDERTAKE THIS TASK YOU WILL NEED TO: Re-read Owen s (Standard) or Yeats (Advanced) poems set for study. Refer to your class work on this Module. Consult with your teacher regarding your understanding of the poems and particularly the ideas. Take notes from class discussions. Prepare an essay that will then be delivered orally. Practise and time the speech before it is presented. CROSS CURRICULA PERSPECTIVES: English Stage 6 provides a powerful context within which students develop general competencies that are essential for the acquisition of effective, higher-order thinking skills necessary for further education, work and everyday life. The following key competencies are embedded in English Stage 6 to enhance student learning: collecting, analysing and organising information communicating ideas and information planning and organising activities using technology. These key competencies are developed by the core processes of composing and responding that are essential to each course. They are reflected through the objectives, outcomes and content of each of the Stage 6 English courses.

To what extent does this perspective align with your understanding of Yeats poetry? In your response, make detailed reference to THREE of the poems set for study. TASK SPECIFICATIONS: The duration of speeches must be 5 minutes. A warning bell will be rung at 4 minutes and a final bell at 5 minutes. If you are still speaking at 5.15 minutes, in fairness to others you will be asked to sit down. You must deliver your speech on appropriate palm cards. You WILL NOT be allowed to read from your transcript on the day so ensure you are thoroughly prepared. Students must submit a complete transcript of their speech at the beginning of the lesson on the 23/11/15.
