Rapid Rotortyping The Official Give-Away of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam at the Euromold 2002 created: 2002 sizes: diameter: 60 hight: 50 materials: brass weight vacuum casting resins sofware: Rhinoceros 2.0 The spinning top was designed and produced as the official give-away for the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam which exhibited at the Euromold in December 2002. After the spinning top was modeled with Rhinoceros a surface control model was made with a computer controlled milling machine. This model was used to inspect the form and the proportions. A small edition of 100 items was made using vacuum molding. To produce the molds a stereolithography model was made. In this project I had the opportunity to gain experiences in various steps of production and rapid prototyping.
Bikecommunicator Interface Design Communication Device for Bicycle Messengers Semester Project created: 2002 sizes: 120 x 90 x 40 materials: high density polyurethane foam software: Rhinoceros 2.0 3D Studio Max 5 This design was completed as a course project in interface design. The task was to design a personal digital assistant for bike messengers and create a simple-to-use interface with practical benefits as well as an appropriate ergonomic housing. After sketching and rendering a 3D computer model of the housing was made. Next a hard foam model was made with a computer controlled milling machine to inspect the form and proportions. To check the surfaces and some details a stereolithography model was used.
Biodegradable Planting Pot Planting Pot Made out of Biodegradable Miscanthus (Type of Sweet Grass) Semester Project created: 2003 sizes: 76 x 83 x 547 materials: high density polyurethane foam painted software: Alias Studio Tools 10 The task of this project was to look for new materials and use them to design new products. This planting pot is supposed to be made out of Miscanthus which is ground up before it is pressed into molds. A 3D model was made with Studio Tools and in the step milled with a computer controlled milling machine in the scale of 1:2. This specially formed pot makes it possible to push it into the ground. The tall bar supports the young plant during the first weeks until the complete pot decomposes.
Bamboo Bedroll A Space Saving Roll-Up Bed Made out of Bamboo Semester Project created: 2003 sizes: 670 x 635 x 300 materials: high density particle board rope The task was to design furniture out of bamboo. The idea of this bed was to open up space for other usage when the bed is not used. When the bed is coiled up it is possible to move it easily. Pillows and blankets do not need an extra place. They are rolled up along with the bed. The manufacturing is as simple as possible because the flexible parts of the bed need only very few productions steps. To inspect the form and check the funktion of the bed a model in the scale of 1:3 was made.
Mobile Point of Sale System The Result of the Application Process for the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam created: 1999 sizes: 610 x 420 x 200 materials: aluminium This pack is entirely made out of aluminium and is designed for mobile street vendors. The system can be carried very comfortably, offers a maximum of flexibility and agility. The pack has fold out legs to turn it into a table. The model was built in full scale during an internship at the silversmith Mathias Heck using traditional methods of sheet metal forming.
Trade Show Booth at the Euromold 2002 Design, Planing and Building of the Trade Show Booth as a Team Effort created: 2002 materials: various materials The task was to create a booth that would suit the University of Applied Scienses Potsdam needs both conceptually and practically. Each team member created a concept and one was selected for realization. The designer of the original concept is Marco Schölzel. His concept was completed and perfected by the entire team. The resulting booth made an open and airy impression. The design was very well liked by the public and the fair management decided to purchase the booth at the end of the show. The main learning aspect of this project was the experience of succsessful team work.
Surface Control Model for a Compact Laboratory Centrifuge Full Scale CNC Model of a Compact Laboratory Centrifuge created: 2003 sizes: 266 x 212 x 166 materials: high density polyurethane foam painted software: Alias Studio Tools 10, MasterCam 8 The model was made in order to check the quality of the surface data that was to be used for making high quantity injection molding tools. Slight irregulareties of some surfaces were improved upon as a result. This model, including the CNC programming, was made by me during an intership at the modelshop Labor-drei in Potsdam. I also took part in the design process of the centrifuge at bvm design Potsdam.
Mimo Wrist Watch with OLED Display Design of a watch using OLED-technology developed by the Fraunhofer Institute of applied Polymer Research (IAP) created: 2004 sizes: diameter: 76 width: 36 software: Alias Studio Tools 10 3D Studi Max 5 Mimo is a design concept that turns time into something individual. For this the pulse and the level of movement are measured and represented as columns of dots on the display. The resulting pattern indicates wether the user has experienced a stressful, a restful or a physically exerting period. Mimo was created during a semester project in the field Interface design. The project was developed in collaboration with the IAP. The aim was to showcase the potential of the OLED technology by focusing on interactive, wearable electronics. for more informations visit: www.mimo.de.ms
dolce piacere Concept for Chocolate Concept for chocolate to celebrate it in special ways and to create a new way to eat and enjoy chocolate. created: 2004 sizes: 300 x 170 x 60 materials: high density polyurethane foam painted software: Alias Studio Tools 10 3D Studio Max 5 dolce piacere means sweet pleasure that turns chocolate into something special. A block of chocolate is presented on a plate of 300 x 170 mm size. To cut up the block there are two special grates which produce either rough chocolate splinters or tender rolls. Differently shaped and structured chocolate pieces offer different and new ways to eat, decorate with or simply enjoy the chocolate. Use it for flavoring coffee or as a dip for fruits... This block of chocolate, the plate and the grader help to celebrate the beauty of choclate.
Gripper - sport vehicle for two passengers Gripper is a combination of a motorbike and a car. It offers enough space for two passengers. created: 2004 sizes: 2710 x 1850 x 1650 software: Alias Studio Tools 10 3D Studio Max 6 With this project I wanted to develop a kind of a sport vehicle with a strikingly design. In Gripper you can find the safety of an usual car and the agility of a motorcycle. To get the feeling of driving curves like riding a motorbike Gripper has a special kind of tilting technology simular to the stearing of a skateboard. A comfortable position to seat offers the passengers a good field of view and enough space. Gripper is not planed as a vehicle for people who use it every day to be mobile. It is planed to have fun just like sport bikes. Different details of Gripper are showing you its relation to motorcycles and cars. Some typical details for sport bikes are for example the tires, the slim body with small headlights in the front and the big disc brakes.
MLT 200+ Monolinetrailer Contribution to the IVM Design Prize 2004. Philipp Lüdicke Benjamin Haller Marc Joschko created: 2004 software: Alias Studio Tools 10 The motorcycle trailer mlt 200+ offers to a wide variety of motorcycle types the possibility to carry much more luggage than traditional motorcycles. The single track vehicle is fixed to the rear swinging fork. Compared to traditional systems of transporting luggage with a lot of space needed for fixation at the side of the vehicle or negative consequeces for the riding behavior of the bike mlt 200+ is an alternative with enough space for individual use. By changing parts of the outside surface the trailer can be adapted to the individual design of the motorcycle or scooter. This trailer offers a separat braking system and additional petrol tanks to enlarge the riding distance.
