Welcome! Alberto Cremonesi Italy Ömer Goktekin Turkey Thomas Zeller Germany PCR Istanbul Peripheral Course Directors PCR Istanbul Peripheral: the ultimate educational link between peripheral endovascular solutions and interventional cardiologists In the name of Alberto Cremonesi, Ömer Goktekin and Thomas Zeller In the last decades, the interventional cardiovascular community has witnessed an increase in interest from interventional cardiologists for peripheral interventions. Why? Firstly, coronary, peripheral and carotid diseases are diverse expressions of atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular patients share the same risk factors, preventive measures, medical management and principles of revascularisation. Secondly, an individual patient may have multiple indices of atherosclerosis and the prevalence of patients with multilevel disease is expected to increase in the years to come due to aging of the population. In addition, although the patient may present with manifestations of lower extremity arterial disease or carotid disease, his or her long-term prognosis will also be determined by the presence and extent of associated coronary artery disease. Finally, structural heart interventions, and specifically TAVI, are creating a new challenge for interventional cardiologists: the indisputable need for operators to master peripheral endovascular skills to prevent and manage access complications. Therefore, dedicated training that goes beyond the mere technical aspects of interventional procedures and includes a broad knowledge of the disease, its medical management and the surgical options is necessary for an interventional cardiologist before embarking in peripheral procedures. One of the major issues for interventional cardiologists who want to be involved in peripheral interventions is that training opportunities are sparse, and may not address their specific needs. Built on the foundation of the peripheral course led by Ömer Goktekin for the last several years, PCR Istanbul Peripheral is meant as a solution to promote a more active involvement of interventional cardiologists in peripheral endovascular solutions. With a personalised scientific programme, it is designed to be speciality-oriented, in order to deal with the open issues and unmet needs they encounter in their daily practice when tackling peripheral interventions. Indeed, PCR Istanbul Peripheral aims to be the educational way to introduce a new holistic vision for cardiologists: the panvascular interventional medicine. From this perspective, peripheral endovascular interventions can represent, for interventional cardiologists, the first step in shaping a pan-vascular departmental approach. Our catheterisation laboratories may become the place to overcome interdisciplinary boundaries and to build effective horizontal integration, allowing professional handling of a complete spectrum of cardiovascular diseases. This is why PCR Istanbul Peripheral aims to be the endovascular Course crafted by and for interventional cardiologists. Join us during this first edition of the Course held from 26 to 28 November 2015 in Istanbul, to learn about peripheral artery disease, skills and techniques for optimal pan-vascular patient care. We are looking forward to discussing and exchanging with you. 2 PCR Istanbul Peripheral 2015 Preliminary programme - Valid as of 9 September 2015
