INDIA S 70 th YEAR OF INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATED IN CARMEL CONVENT SCHOOL Tree plantation 10th Aug 16 A nation that destroys its soil destroys itself. Roosevelt On the 10 th of August, 2016 in the presence of the school principal Sr. Joviana Fernandes and Mr. A. W. Ansari, Joint Director (NDMC) the Eco club members of Carmel Convent School organised a Tree Plantation drive keeping in mind the views of the 32 nd President of United States. To show their solidarity towards conserving and preserving nature, the students planted saplings of Ashoka, Mango and Ficus.The drive instilled in the minds of the students the famous saying that we have borrowed and land from our children and not inherited it from our fore fathers. It reminded each and every student of their duty in conserving nature and preserving it for better use. Planting tree saplings

Painting Competition and Greeting cards 12th Aug 16 To commemorate the 70th year of Indian Independence and pay tribute to the nation the Art teachers of Carmel Convent School, New Delhi organised a painting competition for the students of standard VI to XI on the theme Azaadi- Yaad Karo Kurbaani on 12th August 2016. The students beautifully expressed their minds on the canvas using crayons and paints.the competition helped the students gain knowledge about the Indian Freedom Movement and the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. To pay tribute and salute the courage of the soldiers who bring glory to our nation and protect it the students were asked to make greeting cards for the jawans posted at the border stations. Independence Day Celebrations 12th Aug 16 12 August, 2016 saw the celebration of the 70 th Independence Day by Carmel Convent School, Chanakyapuri. The festivities commenced by welcoming the chief guest, Maj. Gen. (Dr) V.K. Naik, K.C., A.V.S.M. and his hoisting of the flag. After a prayer and a pledge the students of primary took over to present a poem titled Desh Humara and sing a song dressed in different traditional attires. The evils of corruption were given a voice through a Nukkad Natak by the dramatic society. Songs performed by the Hindi and western music society along with the middle school dance had a nationalistic fervour to them. The students were motivated by the inspirational words of the esteemed chief guest who pointed out the struggle India had to go through for its freedom. He appealed to the youth to protect the country and keep its value system alive in order for India to achieve great heights. He pointed out to the contribution made by women in such a freedom and the development of the country. Mantras to a good and responsible life were provided to the students by the chief guest who said, being sincere, following traditions, taking care of the environment, staying physically and mentally fit and following one s teachers will help lead a better life. He ended his speech by congratulating the school on an impressive programme. The programme ended with the school anthem, further instilling in the students a sense of responsibility towards, themselves, the school, fellow beings and their country. Freedom Run 17th Aug 16 On the 17th of August, 2016 at 7.45 am about fifty students of Carmel Convent School, Delhi took part in the FREEDOM RUN that was flagged off by the school Principal, Sr. Joviana at Malcha Marg. The event was organised by the Physical Education teachers of Carmel Convent School, Delhi to commemorate the 70th year of Independence. Run for Bharat

SLOGAN WRITING COMPETITION 17th Aug 16 As part of the 70th Indian Independence day celebrations the students of class IV and V participated in a slogan writing competition, conducted in the school premises by the Primary school teachers on 17th August 2016, from 8-00 am to 9-30 am. The students participated enthusiastically and displayed their writing skills. Slogans in English, related to the freedom struggle and patriotic thoughts were used to convey the message of nationalism. The three best entries were awarded with merit certificates. Students using their creativity to showcase their patriotism

HINDI RECITATION COMPETITION 17th Aug 16 The Pre-primary Dept of Carmel Convent School organized a Hindi recitation competition on 17 th Aug 16 to commemorate the 70 th year of India s Independence. Pre-primary students reciting Hindi patriotic poems

ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION 17th Aug 16 The English Department teachers of Carmel Convent School conducted an Essay writing competition on the topics Is India truly free after 70 years of Independence? or What Freedom means to me? for the students of class IX on 18th Aug 16. The purpose of the competition was to help students demonstrate their writing skills, as well as express their outlook on current national issues. The best three write- ups will be awarded certificates.
