1 MULTI-DISCIPLINARY PROJECT BASED LEARNING FASN / CLASS IX / SA1 / Learning objective: Students will be able to collaborate & integrate different concepts and so will be able to identify the interrelation of different subjects. Description: Delhi is the place which has a high esteem history and culture to boast on. Delhi's Historical monuments and ancient architecture makes the city a sought after destination for tourists and connoisseurs. The richness of Delhi's heritage can be seen in grand Mughal forts, Mosques and the Temples that represent great Indian architecture. The Integrated project of Class IX aims at the detailed study of monuments from the different eras of History with different perspective. INDIAN PARLIAMENT HOUSE During the working on the subjects, kindly keep the following points in mind. PROCESS OF PREPARATION, SUBMISSION AND MODE OF ASSESSMENT Students are divided into six / seven groups in each class by the class teacher as per his/ her discretion. Each group is given a topic from the above list, either by choice or lottery. Students must select a sub-topic from the given list of each subject. Each group submits one file only. Every student will write for his/her subtopic for every subject. Presentation will be taken by panel of teachers. Each child will present only one subject (only his/her sub-topic) before the panel The subject to be presented by a student will be decided by the group members. Students will be judged on the basis of content, innovative ideas, social skill / peer interaction, depth of study, neatness, presentation of report and timely submission. Evaluation of the content will be done by the subject teachers.
2 Marks for the presentation & viva will be awarded by the teachers in the panel. Same marks (presentation + viva) will be awarded in all subjects except computer, second and third language. PJBL presentation for 2 nd and 3 rd language will be done by their subject teachers in their respective periods. Please find below the table indicating the mode of awarding marks. The colour code for each subject is as follows: English- White Mathematics Sky Blue Science Pink Social Science Yellow H/ S/ F Light Green The project report will be handwritten and credit will be awarded to original drawings, illustrations and creative use of materials. The project report will be presented in a neatly bound simple folder. The project report will be developed and presented in this order Cover page showing project title, student information, school and year List of contents with page numbers.
3 Acknowledgements (acknowledging the institution, offices and libraries visited and persons who have helped). Project Overview: Purpose, Aim, Methodology and experiences while doing the project. Subjects / Chapters with relevant headings. Summary and conclusions based on findings HISTORY 1. Write detailed information of the given monument the time period it was made in and architectural style. 2. Under whose rule was the monument made. 3. Other monuments built of the similar stature under the same ruler. 4. Other monuments made in its contemporary times by the different rulers. 5. Detailed information of the contemporary ruler his reign, his rule, information about kingdom. 6. Economic condition of India during the reign of the ruler. MATHEMATICS During the working on the mathematical perspective kindly keep the following points in mind. 1. Geometric shapes 2. Proportions / dimensions. 3. Importance of arches and other shapes in strength of construction. 4. Symmetry, repetition and aesthetic 5. Relation to direction of Sun 6. Layout (building, garden) and the ratios 7. Drains and water flow 8. Statistics - visitors, maintenance cost, employees etc 9. Period of construction and Architectural style 10. Cost of construction if done now!
4 SCIENCE Learning objective: Students will be able to a) Find out the ancient methods that were used for conservation and preservation of natural resources ( like water storage facilities, ventilation system to keep the room temperature maintained) b) Compare the methods of utilization of natural resources in the past, present with how they should be used in future. c) Gain knowledge about the ancient practices to increase energy efficiency. Sub Topics: 1) Conservation of resources system in the monument (water, soil) 2) Ventilation system ( focus on source and use of light and cooling effect produced by it) / drainage system 3) Composition of the materials used for construction of monuments( Study whether it is withstanding natural calamities or not) 4) Effect of pollution on monuments ( structural damage caused on the monument) 5) Study of nature of the soil selected for constructing the monument. 6) Type of FLORA AND FAUNA in the specific area, Disturbed ecosystem, land degradation, deforestation, decrease in water table. ENGLISH Students will undertake the project in groups; each child will take up any one of the tasks listed below. 1) Imagine you are a journalist. Prepare a write up for a column Know your Monument which appears in a national daily. Your write up should stress on the location, Historical significance and other relevant information about the monument assigned to your group. 2) Historical Monuments are symbolic of our rich culture and heritage. Nevertheless, many people act ruthlessly by defacing and damaging them, thereby bringing down the image of the country. Write an article highlighting this problem. Also suggest solutions for the same. Give a suitable title to your article.
5 3) You have just returned from a visit to ( the assigned monument). Write an to your friend describing about the same. 4) Write an autobiography in prose or verse of the assigned monument. 5) Write four slogans to create awareness about protecting our monuments. 6) As a tourist guide, write a diary entry focusing on the difference in attitude between foreign tourists and visitors from India.
