Installation FALCON Installation Instructions Instructions for Installing FALCON Installing Falcon is a 3 stage process for networks; 1. Installing the Gupta SQLBase Server software onto the Server 2. Installing the Gupta Client software onto each workstation 3. Installing the Falcon software onto each workstation & installing the SQL database in the SQLBase directory You will require a CD drive to be available to load the software onto the server. The client software can be loaded directly from the CD onto each workstation or alternatively the client software can be loaded onto the server and then installed onto the workstations via the network. Two CDs are provided, one with the Gupta software on it and one with the Falcon software on it Follow the instructions carefully carrying out the Gupta Server installation first, then the Gupta client software and finally the Falcon software. Please note: If you are an existing client, please check the version of SQLBase. If it is 6.x or 7.x, please contact Falcon support on 01628 635003 1

Falcon Install Guide Server Install Server Install Server Install Installation of Gupta v 8.5 on a Windows Server (You will need to log in as Administrator) Using Explorer, set up a SQLBase directory on the server and then set up a new directory off the SQLBase directory. The directory is generally the name of the actual company database, there is a limit of 12 characters. (Usually an abbreviation of the original name).e.g. Dillon Technology becomes DILLONTEC. Insert the GUPTA SQLBase CD into the machine that you wish to use as the Database Server. (DO NOT Install the software remotely because the Windows Registry has to be updated within the server machine). If the CD does not start automatically then click START, RUN, and then BROWSE. 2

Installation Click on the next button. Select the accept radio button and click on next when it becomes enabled. Enter in your user name and Organisation and then enter in the CD Key code from the documentation included with the Gupta SQLBase disk and click the next button. As Version 8.5 allows multiple installations if SQLBase, the next screen asks to confirm the destination of the program. 3

Falcon Install Guide Click Next. You will be presented with the screen above where the components to be installed are selected and deselected using the drop down boxes next to the component. In order to install the required software on the server ensure that: 1: Under Win32 Server, only connectivity administrator is selected. 2: NetWare Server is deselected. 3: ALL client components are deselected. Click the next button to display this next screen. 4

Installation Enter in the name of the SQLBase server, usually Server1. Select No, on the question of SQL99ANSI. Select Yes so that the SQLBase Server runs as a Windows service. Select No to start it at the end of installation. (You will need to configure further options at the end of the installation which makes selecting this option worthless.) Click the next button. Confirm options and click next to install the selected components. To the target directory on the server. 5

Falcon Install Guide The installation of Gupta SQLBase is now complete, the configuration of the databases is next. 6

Installation Server Install Database Configuration Configuration of the SQL Databases Once the Gupta software has been installed, you will need to install the client software before continuing. Once at least one client is installed, the databases need to be installed on the server. Copy the file Blank.dbs from the Falcon/Prog directory on the client machine to the directory on the server that was set up previously. Rename the Blank.dbs file name to match the directory name e.g. SQLBase > Dillontec > Dillontec.dbs. Now go to START > PROGRAMS > GUPTA > SQLBase 8.5.0 > Connectivity Administrator Expand the SQLBase branch. Select and enable the TCP/IP option. ( The local connection can be enabled or disabled) 7

Falcon Install Guide Make a note of the server name. This is the name of the SQLbase server. If the default name of server1 is changed ensure that on all occasions where this guide refers to server1, the amended server name is used. Either enter in the name or the TCP/IP address of the Windows Server. Again, make a note of it, it will be needed to be referred to when installing the client software. Click on the OK button. (If the installation of the Gupta Software is on a single machine, simply keep the local connection enabled and DO NOT enable the TCP/IP connection). Click into the SERVER tab and expand the tree as shown. By clicking on server1 and selecting properties, the server configuration form will be displayed. Click on the Optional Tab and in the three paths shown enter the path of the SQLBase directory. (Do not go as far as the database directories). Click on the Enable Server Connect Password and enter SYSADM. Click on the OK button. 8

Installation Select the Listening Protocol branch and ensure that the selection matches what was on the previous tab e.g. only TCP/IP or both TCP/IP and Local. Select the database branch and click ADD. Enter in the name of the database that you have previously setup e.g. Dillontec. The available protocols should be automatically selected and should match the selection in the listening protocol and the first Configuration Tab. Once this has been configured and OK has been selected. The following screen will be displayed allowing the checking of all the configuration options. 9

Falcon Install Guide Finally click on the OK button and go to Windows Services. Start the Gupta Service and the following screen should be displayed. Click on display databases to ensure that the database that has been configured is displayed. The server installation is now complete. 10

Installation Client Install 11

Falcon Install Guide SQLBase Client Install Client Install SQLBase Client Install Gupta SQLBase Software Install (You will need to log in as Administrator) Insert the GuptaSQLBase CD into the client machine and click through the same screens as above and enter the same CD Key until you come to the component selection. In order to install the required software onto the client machine ensure that: 1: Server components are deselected. 2: Client components Win32 Client and Client Tools are selected. 3: The ODBC driver is selected. 4: All DBA tools are selected. Click the next button once the target directory has been set for the client machine software. On the next screen, enter in the Hostname for the server and the SQLBase Server Name. Click the next button. 12

Installation Click Next Configuration of the SQL Databases Once the Gupta software has been installed on the client, the databases held on the server need to be connected. Go to START > PROGRAMS > GUPTA > SQLBase 8.5.0 > Connectivity Administrator 13

Falcon Install Guide Expand the tree as shown above and disable local connection. Click on OK to leave the only enabled protocol as TCP/IP. Select server1 and select properties. Enter in the server Hostname or TCP/IP address and click on OK. The client installation of Gupta SQLBase is now complete. 14

Installation Falcon Client Install Falcon Client Install Falcon Install FALCON Software Installation (You will need to log in as Administrator) Insert FALCON CD into the client machine and allow to load. When this screen is displayed, click Next. Register Falcon by entering the username and company. Click Yes on the next screen if the registration information is correct. Confirm that the destination folder is correct and select Typical. 15

Falcon Install Guide The installation program will then search for the Gupta installation (the SQL.INI file). Once it finds it, it will display a screen asking you to continue or if it cannot find it, it will display a browsing screen as shown below: Click on the Next button. Confirm that Falcon is the name to be used when looking through program folders on your desktop by clicking next on the screen. 16

Installation The installation program will then ask which spreadsheet application is going to be used with Falcon. Select on the relevant choice and click next. The installation process will complete and display the following screen. Click on the yes button. Click Finish on the next screen and if Falcon is going to be run immediately e.g. before any scheduled reboot, the option of Yes to restart the client machine MUST be selected. 17

Falcon Install Guide Once the client machine is restarted, right-click on the Falcon shortcut that has been placed on the desktop. Ensure that the correct server name is in the target. If not, amend before starting Falcon. When presented with the Falcon login screen, the database that has been installed on the server should be visible. Ensure that it is selected and in the Username box type in SYSADM and in the Password box type in SYSADM. If an error about a license file or number of companies are exceeded is displayed at this point, please contact Falcon support on 01628 635003. If there are any questions or issues with the above installation process, please call the support number. 18
