GRUNDFOS BioBooster Cleaner water Greener environment

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Compact wastewater treatment GRUNDFOS BioBooster Innovative industrial wastewater treatment in containers Grundfos BioBooster is the world s most compact biological wastewater treatment plant. The solution can comprise mechanical/chemical treatment and biological treatment, and it is developed especially for industries discharging high levels of organics, e.g. dairies, soft drink, and other process industries. Grundfos BioBooster offers the world s highest loading rates where conventional technologies take days Grundfos BioBooster treats the same wastewater volumes in hours. The technology that makes it possible to deliver a complete, compact wastewater treatment plant in 20-foot containers instead of in large open tanks is the revolutionary PBR and MBR reactors used for the biological processes.

The Pressurised Biofilm Reactor (PBR) The Membrane Biological Reactor (MBR) The Grundfos BioBooster PBR is used for reducing high levels of COD concentrations. It performs a continuous aerobic removal process with pressurised oxygen rather than atmospheric air to increase oxygen concentration in the water and thus the speed of the biological treatment. Biofilm growth is controlled by a patented disc system which rasps off excess biofilm by means of a cycloidal rotating pattern between two different-size discs. The innovative rasping principle of the rotating discs ensures a uniform biofilm layer and maximum oxygen access to all microorganisms. The result is optimum conditions for the biological treatment process, and constant, high performance. Furthermore, the disc system functions as a self-cleaning mechanism, which means that CIP is not required. The Grundfos BioBooster MBR combines biological treatment with UF filtration, resulting in stable, high-quality effluent and thus enables water reuse and direct discharge to receiving waters. Rotating cross-flow impellers between the filtration and aeration membrane discs prevent fouling and make it possible to operate with a 4-5 times higher sludge concentration than in conventional MBR systems. Also, this ingenious construction with cross-flow impellers ensures low kinematic viscosity in the reactor biomass, and ultimately low energy consumption and high flux. Radical innovation, compactness, and high performance are some of the parameters that make Grundfos BioBooster MBR superior to conventional MBR technologies. The Grundfos BioBooster PBR demonstrates higher organic removal rates per volume than any other biological technology.

Modular and containerised plant Grundfos BioBooster is a future-proof solution based on the fundamental principles of modularity. It consists exclusively of high-quality, preengineered components, and each individual plant is customised and scaled with the necessary number of PBRs and MBRs to match your exact needs. Design and implementation of a Grundfos BioBooster plant is down to around 4 months, contrary to up to several years for conventional wastewater treatment plants. Grundfos BioBooster is easily extended with more reactors in case of future changes in your production volume or mix and thus wastewater treatment needs. The solution is delivered in 20-foot containers, which means that it can be placed anywhere on your premises even on the second floor of the factory building. The mobile containers are easily relocated in case you move, expand, or close down the production. Grundfos BioBooster constitues a fixed asset during its entire life, as it can be resold or capitalised just like any other fixed asset. Control and monitoring Grundfos BioBooster requires a minimum of manual supervision, because the intelligent control system regulates treatment capacity and volumes according to current demands. Service and maintenance The plant can be provided with a complete service and maintenance agreement. Online remote monitoring of plant operations from Grundfos BioBooster s headquarters in Bjerringbro, Denmark together with locally placed service personnel ensures that you can concentrate on your core business and avoid employing wastewater treatment experts.

PRODUCT IMPORTANCE To Grundfos Grundfos BioBooster is a strategically important product. It compliments Grundfos core business and contributes positively towards reaching the Group s vision to deliver clean water to the world by means of continuous growth and development of sustainable technologies. The need for wastewater treatment is huge anywhere on our globe. With the growing importance of emerging economies in the globalised world and their implications to the environment, cleantech is here to stay. To our customers You get a flexible, compact, and future-proof solution to industrial wastewater treatment. Grundfos BioBooster meets the stringent requirements to space and odour emissions, which especially production units located in urban areas experience. Due to its modular construction, the plant can easily and rapidly be adjusted to your changing production demands with respect to size and composition as opposed to conventional wastewater treatment solutions in concrete tanks. What is more, Grundfos BioBooster meets the increasing regulatory requirements to the environment and wastewater discharge. Grundfos BioBooster s innovative technology brings added value to you in a number of crucial ways: you get an innovative solution to your wastewater treatment problem now and in future, discharge savings, increased flexibility in the production, increased independence of local authorities, and, last but not least, a greener environmental profile. To society In society, there is a general need, and a desire, to treat the wastewater to ensure an environmentally sustianable development of the community locally as well as globally. However, it is often difficult for society to ajust treatment capacity to current demands, because production companies (especially the food industry) often take up a large part of the municipal wastewater treatment plant s capacity whilst expanding and closing production units, respectively. This involves great risks/uncertainty about the invested capital and the quality of the treated wastewater. With Grundfos BioBooster, the industry can to a higher extent treat their own wastewater, thus making society s treatment task easier and less risky for the benefit of all of us.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS Wastewater treatment at the source has several positive environmental aspects. The possibility of water reuse in the production process reduces the consumption of raw water and wastewater discharge. Treatment at the source also provides increased possibilities of making use of both the biogas potential and the fertilizer value in the generated sludge. This is due to the fact that wastewater contents are known and not yet mixed with environmentally hazardous materials and substances from other industries. Minimising the volumes of combusted sludge, and sludge buried with landfill waste, also contributes to keeping e.g. phosphorous recycled in nature a vital fertilizer for human existence which unfortunately is in danger of becoming a scarce resource. Grundfos BioBooster is manufactured exclusively from recyclable materials. As the biological treatment takes place in enclosed reactors, no odour or noise are emitted to the environment. Manufacture, installation, and dismantling of the plant constitute no hazards to the surrounding environment. And it is estimated that total use of resources in a Grundfos BioBooster solution is less than in conventional concrete plants, where the use of resources especially in connection with dismantling and destruction are high.
