filter module Unique rotating principle for fouling elimination, patent protected. Operates with high MLSS concentrations (0-40 kg/m 3 ) giving a very high operational flexibility on capacity. Flux rate 40/80 lmh average/peak (5 days) and power consumption of 0.6 kwh/m 3 (ceramic discs). Closed and most compact system for greenfield and retrofit solutions. Simple and robust operation. Integrated pre-dewatering of sludge to a DM of 4-8%. Cost-effective module assembly in factory. MFU Module is Grundfos most unique plug & play station with 8 Membrane Filtration Units. The module also includes pumps, pre-dewatering, valves and control systems via a cable profit net. MFU module scope of supply CIP CEB Q Q Backwash Two different MFUs: Ceramic vs. polymer discs The actual filter unit can be mounted with either ceramic discs or polymer discs. The robustness of the ceramic discs and their durabilty makes them suitable for most wastewater types and chemicals where wear and tear is anticipated. Polymer discs are suitable for applications where the need for frequent cleaning does not apply. Unique to both discs is the incorporated backflush which ensures high flux in operations. 4 5 6 3 2 1 Pre- Dewatering Q Peak flux test, filter unit - municipal wastewater Module capacities based on disc type: A single MFU: Flux [l/m 2 /h] 100 90 80 70 60 50 40 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 TMP [Bar] Average Ceramics 10 m 3 /h (45 gall/min) Polymer 13,5 m 3 /h (60 gall/min) Peak 20 m 3 /h (90 gall/min) 27 m 3 /h (20 gall/min) 30 3 20 2 10 0 Peak flow operation Normal operation 1 0 Flux TMP 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 Days As demonstrated by the graph very high fluxes can be performed during long periods thereby allowing for a more flexible design of MBR solutions. 4 5
Open up for Grundfos NEXT-GENERATION INNOVATIVE technology Grundfos MFU module Unveiling Grundfos Filter Module - A unique plug & play station with 8 Membrane Filtration Units (MFUs). Each filtration module adds a powerful filtration capacity of 10 m 3 /h (for ceramic discs). Robustness is the key-feature of the filter units resulting in high durability and stable operation. Made from fibreglass vessels, the MFUs within each module can tolerate complex wastewater. The Ceramic discs within each Filter Unit can endure chemicals under CIP processes. The filter module station is equipped with a control system ensuring automated operations. The need for onsite personnel is therefore reduced to a minimum as it can be monitored and operated remotely. Due to this construction and configuration Grundfos is capable of delivering a solution which is robust, durable and reliant. 6 7
MFU module Sludge out Feature: - Automated pre-dewatering while membrane filtration is in operation Benefits: - No investment in pre-dewatering - Reduced cost of sludge transport - Increased performance during operation MFU frame The module frame has the static strength to act as the civil structure of a building so that an installation will only need a foundation and cladding. Control box Feature: - Decentralised MCC and PLC Benefits: - Enables advanced factory test, which increases quality - Limits installation time - Reduced risk of malfunction during start-up MFU Permeate Feature: - Automatic valve matrix for backflush, CEB and CIP enabling optimal flexibility to fight all types of fouling. Benefit: - Ensuring performance and operational stability. Membrane Filtration Unit (MFU) Features - High robustness - can withstand CEB treatment (Chemical Enhanced Backflush) - Pore size of 200 nanometres Benefits - Long-life and continuous operation - Bacteria-free permeate Sludge in Feature: All motors on MFUs and recirculation pumps are highly efficient Grundfos Blueflux motors with frequency converters Benefits: Ensures optimal energy efficiency and reduces service requirements due to motor intellegence 8 11

REFERENCES Full-scale test site Bjerringbro- Packaged plant Two parallel full-scale wastewater treatment plants at Bjerringbro wastewater works, Denmark. The solution comprises filter modules, supply modules and bio-tank modules. The plant was commissioned in 2012. Full-scale commercial plant Arla Vimmerby This dairy plant produces milk powder and has experienced an increase in wastewater due to the expansion of production. The Grundfos WWTP will treat 400 m 3 /d (105 TGD) and the treated effluent will meet the most stringent requirements for effluent removal. The plant is scheduled to be in operation by summer 2013. Private-Public Innovation Project Herlev Hospital Hospital wastewater contains a complex mixture of hazardous pharmaceuticals, harmful pathogens and antibiotic bacteria. These cannot be removed by conventional means of wastewater treatment. Grundfos is collaborating with the Capital Region of Denmark and Herlev Hospital to develop a full-scale treatment plant that addresses the specific needs of hospitals. Treatment capacity: 900 beds, 560 m 3 /d (147 TGD) Treatment capacity: 200 m 3 /d (147 TGD) In this set-up the modules are covered with a climate shell which insulates the components. This also gives the WWTP its unique architectural character. Hemsedal - Retrofit Grundfos retrofit solution at Ulsaak wastewater works for Hemsedal municipality, Norway. The extension was constructed to accommodate the Grundfos solution. The solution comprises two filter modules and a supply module. The extension was commissioned in 2012. Treatment capacity: 17 m 3 /time (75 gall/min) 14 15
