BETTER FUTURE FACTORY
BETTER A new world asks for new solutions. We are the frontrunners of a new generation that not only thinks different, but does it FUTURE different. The time to create a better future is right now. FACTORY If we combine business with creative engineering and design ~ we can serve actual needs and solve real world problems.
DESIGN ENGINEERING BUSINESS
WHAT WE DO betterfuturefactory.com youtube.com/betterfuturefactory facebook.com/betterfuturefactory Better Future Factory (BFF) is a multi-disciplinary design, environmental and engineering company. BFF finds and develops creative yet realistic and sustainable solutions to the most pressing issues. Incorporating the underlying principles of the
circular economy to close loops, cycle materials, increase value and develop businesses that contribute to a better future. We are passionate about the application of intelligent, creative and innovative design and engineering to make a global impact and start a revolution. We love working on challenging projects in collaboration with a broad network of experts, partners and enthusiasts and in close contact with stakeholders and users. WE SET UP BUSINESSES THAT DO GOOD WE WORK IN CIRCULAR ECONOMY & SUSTAINABILITY WE WORK WITH CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
What if you could recycle plastic waste into anything you wanted? Perpetual Plastic Project is an award winning, interactive installation that travels around the globe recycling plastic waste into 3D prints.
PERPETUAL PLASTIC
3 1 2 EVENTS perpetualplasticproject.com facebook/perpetualplasticproject Rent PPP for 2000,- per day, ex transport Perpetual Plastic Project (PPP) is an interactive installation for events that transforms plastic waste into 3D printed objects. From junk to jewellery. In four steps PPP lets visitors experience a local circular economy. First, visitors are to clean and dry plastic drinking cups, after which these cups are shredded into small pieces of plastic, these flakes go into a hand-driven extrusion machine which melts the plastic in a heated chamber and pushes it through a small nozzle, after which a long thread - or filament - comes out. This filament is the ink for 3D printers. Visitors then walk away with a 3D printed object made from their own plastic waste.

It is possible to purchase a complete or custom Perpetual Plastic Project installation, this includes training sessions, 3D printers and much more. Hereafter, the seperate machinery - the inner workings meant for education - can be purchased seperately.
refil 3D printing is today s trendiest industrial revolution. At Refil we aim to make it a sustainable one as well. Why continue to use new plastics, when there s so much old plastic we can re-use? Can we transform the third revolution into a sustainable one?
REFIL
REFIL re-filament.com facebook/com/refilament We want to offer the makers of the world a 3d printer filament that is fully recycled, with a quality that is comparable or exceeds premium non-recycled filaments. That s why, for the last couple of years, we have been working on fully recycled filaments. After years of extensive testing and fine-tuning we are proud to introduce fully recycled ABS filament made from car dashboards and PET filament made from old PET bottles.

A different context asks for different recycling solutions. To get rid of waste, in many places in the world, waste is simply set on fire. BFF has developed low tech recycling tools enabling local entrepreneurs to use waste as resource for locally valuable products, so an income can be earned selling products on local markets instead.
POLYMORE
LOW TECH BFF has developed several tools to make locally valuable products made from plastic waste, these items are to be produced and sold in local markets. Many things have to be taken into consideration when designing for such a different context, we chose to repurpose PET bottles because of recognizability, we designed affordable and easy to understand tools so they can be fixed and maintained locally, and we offer a business in a box; a complete package.
MELTER The melter tool creates marble like tiles from PET waste. PET bottle flakes are used as input material, as they are melted in a heated chamber for a specific time and temperature they lose their originally transparency and flexibility - but the PET changes phase in a molecular manner; from amorph to crystalline. This property is used to create the marblelike look, as it becomes nontransparent and brittle. BFF is setting up a product service system in Angola, in collaboration with Heerema Marine Contractors, to enable local entrepreneurs to produce and sell tiles in a fast growing housing market in local Angola.
CUTTER The cutter tool strips down a PET bottle similar to how a potato peeler works, it essentially turns a complete bottle into a wire of over 100 meters long. These wires, which can vary in thickness, can then be used for a multitude of end products like ropes, fishing nets. In Peru, BFF has worked with local weave communities who have turned these PET wires into beautiful woven ornaments for chairs, and even hammocks.
In collaboration a total of 10 different Rotterdam based companies and government, BFF is leading the design for fully recycled construction technologies for housing.
MONOPOLIS
RECYCLED HOUSING Monopolis is the working title of a large collaboration in which BFF is the leading party. Monopolis will be the first fully recycled, circular house in history. We are gathering and developing techniques necessary to create a functional house made entirely from recycled plastic out of community waste. A house where the bricks are made from mixed plastics composites, lampshades are 3D printed from old car dashboards, bathroom tiles made from recycled PET, etc. Monopolis is a collaboration of Better Future Factory, Cities / WASTED, MVO Nederland, van Gansewinkel, SITA, municipality Rotterdam, Ministry of Environment and Infrastructure, Ministry of Economics, Eastman Chemicals and Recycled Park.
BroodNodig (BN) is a project where bread waste is turned into green energy, through a fermentation process.
BROODNODIG
BREAD WASTE An average bakery discards 20-40 Kg bread waste on a daily basis, BFF will develop fermentation machinery efficiently adapted to process bread waste. This project is funded by CityLab010, part of Rotterdam municipality to promote innovative start-ups.
HIRE US FOR
For a Corporate Social Responsibility Design Project.
Designers build bridges. We analyse- and connect market needs with appropriate technology. The result is user oriented design that makes impact socially and environmentally. Everything revolves around the end-user s needs, and the client s wishes. We get to know them, we find out what they really - really - need. Concluding functional- and more intangible demands in order to design a suitable solution that is conform project budget and market demands. During this process we will diverge and converge many times: researching the market segments, choosing the most relevant target users, exploring needs, exploring and experimenting with available techniques, all to come to a wide range of (sub-)solutions which are later converged to a selection of concepts. By then, only one concept will be chosen to be most suitable, which will be fully detailed, prototyped, user tested and will eventually be strategically implemented in the chosen market. During the whole of this design process, the proposed end-user and client will be kept close for valuable feedback - constantly influencing the most desirable endresult.
