Itinerary Day 1 / Arrival in Muscat Arrival at the airport in Muscat. The tour guide picks you up at the airport. Transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay at your hotel in the area of Muscat. Day 2 / Sightseeing in Muscat After breakfast you set off to explore Muscat. 2 ½ Million people live in the capital city, nearly half of all inhabitants of Oman. A visit to the Sultan s Palace (Al Alam Palace), to the Natural History Museum and to the the Al-Jalali and Al-Mirani forts are true highlights of your tour! These forts were built by the Portuguese in the 16 th century. Additionally the Sultan Qaboos Grand Moschee Grand Mosque is worth a visit as well! The world s largest tied carpet and two chandeliers decorated with Svarovski crystals are located there. Of course, there is time for you to take pictures of these impressive places! Towards the end of the day you visit the Muttrah Souk which is one of the most popular markets of its kind in town as it has got a vast variety of products. On your way you pass Barka, Rustaq and Nakhl where you have a great view of the Hajar Mountains. Visiting a traditional date plantation is an upcoming highlight! Day 4 / Muscat - Sur Today you travel to Sur. On your way along the coastal road you see the Bimmah Sinkhole of chalkstone and the white sandy Fins Beach. After your arrival in the seaport you visit the local Dhow Wharf where the traditional Arabic ships are built. Overnight stay at your hotel in the area of Sur. Dhow - Ship Day 5 / Sur - Nizwa via Wahiba Sands Enjoy a day trip to Wadi Bani Khalid and the Wahiba Sands! While you cross the Hajar Mountains you pass several dried-out riverbeds (Wadis). Wadi Bani Khalid is like an oasis amongst the barren and dry high mountain ranges. While visiting Wahiba Sands you stop at a Bedouin Camp. If you like you can do dune surfing or camel riding here. Afterwards you head to Nizwa, the cultural capital of Oman. Overnight stay at your hotel in the area of Nizwa. Wahiba Sands Day 6 / Nizwa, Bahla, Jabrin and return to Muscat Today you explore Nizwa, Bahla and Jabrin. In Nizwa you visit the famous fort with the highest tower in Oman as well as the local market (Souk) where Arabic pottery and varied silver and golden jewellery are on offer. Afterwards you get to know Al Hamra, a 400 year old clay village, and the 5 kilometre long Al Hoota Cave. The cave is one of the world s biggest cave systems and was opened for tourists in 2006. Up next you continue to Bahla, which is one of the oldest cities in Oman. Once Bahla was a ghost town and well-known for black magic. Today it is rather known for its ceramic art. If you like you can visit a traditional pottery. Then you visit the Jabrin Fort. This former residential castle dates back to the 17 th century. Its unique Jabrin - Fort architecture includes beautiful ceiling frescos, wood carvings and hidden corridors. Overnight stay at your hotel in the area of Muscat.
