ISL Newsletter 74 18th March 2016 WELCOME What a busy two weeks it has been here at ISL! Lots going on, as usual! Walking through the school s corridor you can see more and more great IPC Olympic displays going up every day! Students have really enjoyed working on this particular Unit of Work. Especially working in mixed-teams (from Pre-Primary until Grade 6!) every Friday, has been a fun learning experience for everyone involved! Next week Wednesday, we are all going to the track in Kessel-Lo for our Mini-Olympics. This event is the Exit-Point to the IPC Olympic Unit of Work. You have all received a letter concerning this event earlier in the week. Students have enjoyed their first Jiu-Jitsu class last week. The next session is scheduled this week Monday morning! We wish to thank Irina, Ferdinand s mum, for coming in this morning and sharing the story of Easter with our students. Also big thanks to the ISL-PTA for organising the Egg Hunt! Such fun! Today we said goodbye to Miss Fleur, who is moving back to the UK. During a little farewell celebration, we thanked her for everything she has done for the school and the students and for always bringing a smile into the school! Miss Fleur will certainly be missed and we wish her and her partner Bert all the best for the future! Next week Miss Stephanie will take over and after the break she will continue the IPC-work with Grade 2 and 3 while Miss Anne will do both the Literacy and Maths blocks. Please follow us on facebook and check out our Twitter account. By sharing our stories, pictures and tweets you are really helping us to promote the school! We also have school brochures available for you to take to your workplace or to distribute somewhere else. ORGANISATION There will be no Dutch class next week Thursday. Great news regarding the ISL-playground! We had a productive meeting this week Wednesday and we are now moving forward with transforming a section of our playground into a natural playarea! We hope to see work starting very soon! Don t forget you will need your special code to leave the campus as from next Monday onwards! Can we please ask you not to share this code with anyone? Thank you! Our campus partner, the University College Leuven-Limburg, has asked us to use this forum to get the following information out to you: ISL newsletter 1

The school complex of ISL at the Proximus campus also houses one of the largest university colleges in Belgium. UC Leuven-Limburg s use of the campus is expected to gradually increase in the future. Adding the presence of the Adult Education Centre of Mobyus in the evening to that list, leads to the conclusion that practically all age groups will be present on these grounds. And a lot of languages as well! UC Leuven-Limburg has made it its mission to enhance the international competences of its students. Our organisation also caters to the growing international community in the wider Leuven region. Should you, your family or your friends be looking for an English-taught profession-oriented degree programme, then it might be an excellent idea to take a closer look at UC Leuven-Limburg s offering. Our university college is a member of the KU Leuven association, which provides students with the guarantee of high quality education with an impeccable international reputation. At the moment, UC Leuven-Limburg offers 5 programmes specifically catered to international students and students who do not have Dutch as their native language: 3 year bachelor, Business Management Marketing The ideal programme for students who wish to develop valuable business and commercial skills. The programme exists of management courses of general interest, situated alongside a vast number of courses with a clear focus on marketing, advertising and communication. At the end of the programme you will have insight into consumer behaviour, be able to carry out market research and know how to set up a successful marketing campaign. Furthermore, you will get to know the business world via cases, projects, company visits and an internship. Plenty of opportunities to put theory into practice! 3 year bachelor, Business Management Marketing across Europe An innovative and international programme, where students get the opportunity to study in three different European countries. The obtained diploma will be the equivalent of the bachelor degree in Business Management Marketing. The added benefits of garnering experience in three different countries, however, will prove extremely valuable if you were to work in an international environment. 1 year bachelor, International Management This one-year-programme is an excellent opportunity for all students who are fascinated by international business, or are keen on managing a global team. You will be groomed in dealing with international customers and negotiating cross border. Both are valuable skills in the current job market as globalisation forces companies to take a more international approach. The International Management programme is open to all students who are in the possession of a professional or academic bachelor s degree. 1 year bachelor, International Cooperation North South (ICoNS) International Cooperation North South is the perfect programme for young and motivated world citizens who are looking to broaden their horizons. The programme aspires to train young people to be broadly employable in a multicultural, globalized and fast-changing society. The advanced bachelor programme centres around a work placement in a developing region. Students get the opportunity to live and work with one of our partner organisations in India, Sri Lanka, Senegal, Cameroon, Brazil or Nicaragua. 1 year certificate, International Educating Class (IEC) A one-year-programme catered to students who are seeking to contribute to peacebuilding, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue, through education, and in cooperation with UNESCO. The programme provides added value for teachers, but has plenty to offer to non-teachers. You will be able to use the programmes' tools for analysing, fine-tuning, and revitalizing your professional life. At the ISL newsletter 2

same time, you will learn to apply educating competences in all areas of your personal life. It is important to note that completing the IEC programme is rewarded with a certificate and not a diploma. For more information, please visit our website: https://www.ucll.be/international PTA-CORNER This afternoon your children will be enjoying a wonderful movie afternoon. Please be sure to pick your child up at 1800. Special thanks to the mums that always provide all the children with snacks before and during the movie Caroline, Suzanne, Irina & Jean. We have a lot of exciting activities coming up, so please be sure to mark your calendars! Our biggest one will be the ISL Open House Carnival on Sunday, May 29. It is during this time we will be inviting families to come visit our school and play some exciting carnival games with our children. All children will walk away with prize(s) too! We have several PTA meetings before the event for planning it. We would love to receive and hear your inputs! What do you think would interest other families in joining ours during this special day? APRIL Friday, April 15 8:45am PTA MEETING Thursday, April 21 Children present their made up holidays. Children will have 10 days to use their imaginations and create a poster board at home to present on their holiday.
