Blackboard s Collaboration Tool Using Blackboard s Collaboration Tool, instructors can create and host a course-related chat session or virtual classroom in which students and instructors can interact and converse. In a chat, students and instructors may converse and share information in text format. This is "synchronous" communication, so everyone participating must be available at the same time. In a Virtual Classroom, instructors and students can converse in a chat room environment enhanced with tools, such as a white board, group browser, or question and answer area. Transcripts of chat and virtual classroom sessions can be recorded and archived for later use. SETUP 1. Roll your mouse over the blue plus-button that is located above the course navigation. From the pop-up menu, CLICK on CREATE TOOL LINK. 2. The ADD TOOL LINK box will appear. Give the tool a logical name and from the Type drop-down menu, choose COLLABORATION. 3. To make this tool accessible to students enrolled in your course, be sure to check the AVAILABLE TO USERS checkbox. Click SUBMIT when done.

4. The Collaboration Tool Link will be added to your course navigation. By clicking this Collaboration Tool Link, you are taken to the COLLABORATION SESSIONS page. A session is a particular chat room or virtual classroom. By default, you should see two pre-made collaboration sessions, Lecture Hall and Office Hours. Lecture Hall is a virtual classroom. Office Hours is a chat room. 5. To create a new Collaboration Session, click the CREATE COLLABORATION SESSION button. 6. The CREATE COLLABORATION SESSION page will appear.
