Technical Note FLX UC1000/1500 Registering with Siemens HiPath 4000 & OpenScape Voice Date: February 1, 2016 This technical note gives a detailed description on how to register a Revolabs FLX UC1000/1500 conference phone with Siemens HiPath 4000/OpenScape Voice IP PBXs. On the Siemens HiPath 4000/OpenScape Voice servers a SIP extension and user has to be created using Siemens tools. Once that user is created, the FLX UC1000/1500 can be set up to register with the Siemens IP PBX. This document does not outline how to create a user on the PBX. Creating users on the Siemens PBX requires administrative rights. We recommend that a trained Siemens IP PBX administrator perform these tasks. Configuring Siemens HiPath 4000/OpenScape Voice for FLX UC1000/1500 Registration To prepare the FLX UC1000/1500 Conference phone several steps will have to be performed. These steps are the same as those required for any third party SIP device. Login to the Siemens HiPath 4000/OpenScape Console Create a directory number Add a user Add the FLX UC1000/1500 device Associate the FLX UC1000/1500 with the user To configure the SIP endpoint start the Setup Wizard Telephones / Subscribers > IPTelephones in the Siemens HiPath 4000/OpenScape GUI.
For FLX UC1000/1500 endpoints set the Type field to SIP Client. The other data can be adjusted as you need, including the Callno and the Name. Please provide the appropriate License Type. With the data entered in the overview table a FLX UC1000/1500 endpoint can now register without authentication. For safety reasons it is recommended to activate authentication for every FLX UC1000/1500 (SIP) endpoint in the system. To do this, press Edit to enter the Change Station page for the specific Callno. In the screen that opens, check the box Authentication active and enter a Password, a SIP User ID and the Realm. Please use non trivial passwords. While the Realm must be present in the setup on the Siemens switches and is predefined with a default string, the FLX UC1000/1500 is not using this information.
The SIP User ID MUST be present and is a string which is used during the authentication process. This could be, for example, the call number of the FLX UC1000/1500 endpoint with a prefix. You have now created the directory number, user, and the phone device and have associated them with each other. You can now register the FLX UC1000/1500 with the. Testing of the Revolabs FLX UC1000/1500 phone has been done on Siemens HiPath 4000 and Siemens OpenScape Voice servers configured for TCP traffic. In our testing it has been noted that if the Siemens PBX is set up to accept TCP and UDP devices, this caused issues with the registration and call handling. We therefore recommend using the Siemens PBX only with one type of transport protocol, preferably TCP.
