T-Systems International GmbH Industry Professional services Products and Services Operating and managing information and communication technology (ICT) systems Web Site www.t-systems.com SAP s SAP Landscape Virtualization Management software T-Systems International GmbH runs and manages a large number of SAP software systems for customers worldwide. To stay ahead of the game, the company was looking to automate routine tasks and visualize complex landscapes. The company chose SAP Landscape Virtualization Management software, which delivers unprecedented levels of automation and insight, supporting T-Systems in cost-effectively keeping up service quality in times of rapid change. 2 / 9 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. Combining global reach with local competence T-Systems was founded in 2000, when Deutsche Telekom acquired a majority stake in debis Systemhaus, one of the largest IT services companies in Germany at the time. Today, T-Systems ranks among the world s leading operators of information and communication technology (ICT) systems. The company s business focus is on providing and running integrated ICT solutions for large corporations and public sector organizations. The services portfolio of T-Systems ranges from the automotive industry to oil and gas, telecommunications, media, insurance, financial services, retail, utilities, healthcare, and government agencies. The company s application services span application management, cloud readiness and cloud management, enterprise content management, and mobile enablement. Its infrastructure and network services include data center hosting and operations for SAP and non-sap applications, connectivity services, and managed workplace services. With offices in over 20 countries and global delivery capability, the company combines global reach with local competence. Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, T-Systems employs some 50,000 staff worldwide. In 2013 T-Systems generated revenue of around 9.5 billion. 50,000 Employees 9.5 billion Revenue in 2013 3 / 9 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved.

Gearing up for high-growth opportunities T-Systems strikes the right balance between global control and local competence. This balance is instrumental to sustaining business success in the face of growing complexities and global competitive pressure. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management helps T-Systems automate routine tasks to bring down the total cost of ownership (TCO) and shorten time to value for new cloud services. At the same time, the software delivers vital insight into the health status of physical as well as virtual assets in the globally distributed environment run by T-Systems. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management thus helps the company drive modernization initiatives and cost-effectively manage a distributed multivendor application landscape. Virtualization and visualization of applications and their underlying infrastructure help T-Systems stem the tide of increasing complexity and face up to global competitive pressure. What s more, SAP Landscape Virtualization Management supports T-Systems in making use of high-growth opportunities, particularly in the mobile technology space. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management supports us in integrating new software products right out of the box, allowing us to rapidly embrace changes that drive the company s business. Lars Micheel, Delivery Lead, Global Delivery Unit SAP Technology Services, T-Systems International GmbH 4 / 9 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved.

Leveraging the popularity of SAP applications for growth The delivery of SAP applications through cloud services is business critical for T-Systems. We have delivered SAP applications via cloud services for more than a decade. The experience of T-Systems in the provisioning of a cloud-based portfolio of services for SAP applications translates into high customer satisfaction and strong growth, notes Lars Micheel, head of solution delivery at T-Systems. Internally, T-Systems also relies on its provisioning of SAP applications as a service. We believe in using what we sell. Delivering SAP application services via the cloud is our hottest topic, Micheel points out. T-Systems decided to go for SAP Landscape Virtualization Management because it is the standard SAP solution for infrastructure virtualization. The integration of SAP Landscape Virtualization Management relies on a host control framework that T-Systems is able to adjust to its existing infrastructure. In the past, T-Systems relied on a virtualization management tool set developed in-house. Keeping this tool set up-to-date in pace with application changes used to require a considerable amount of time and effort. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management adheres to the SAP standard, helping us reduce in-house development effort and shorten innovation cycles, Micheel underscores. The growing demand for SAP applications as a service is a key business driver for T-Systems. Lars Micheel, Delivery Lead, Global Delivery Unit SAP Technology Services, T-Systems International GmbH 5 / 9 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved.

Ensuring stakeholder support through quick wins Liaising closely with SAP, the T-Systems engineering team rolled out instances of SAP Landscape Virtualization Management software at company sites in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom with ease. The rollouts went very smoothly. SAP provided excellent support. At our Vienna site, we handled the installation ourselves because no third party is sufficiently familiar with the complexity of the local data center infrastructure, Micheel points out. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management provides administrators at T-Systems with self-explanatory dashboard views. The dashboards are complemented by automated first aid and emergency response procedures for system events. Specifically, SAP Landscape Virtualization Management focuses on the company s Dynamic Services Infrastructure and on the standard enterprise cloud solution of the Dynamic Cloud Platform layer. The individual installations of SAP Landscape Virtualization Management run locally, enabling administrators to concentrate on the on-site infrastructure. To facilitate monitoring and reporting, they are integrated through a portal. Following the rollout, administrators achieved a number of quick wins: the copy, refresh, and postcopy automation functionality delivered by SAP Landscape Virtualization Management enabled administrators at T-Systems to generate a number of SAP software system copies with minimal effort. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management is a key component of the cloud operations model for the SAP applications provisioned by T-Systems. Lars Micheel, Delivery Lead, Global Delivery Unit SAP Technology Services, T-Systems International GmbH 6 / 9 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved.

Automating routine tasks for savings in time and effort At T-Systems, SAP Landscape Virtualization Management makes life a lot easier for administrators. The software helps increase the availability of the more than 5,000 SAP software systems managed by the company. It also currently serves for starting, stopping, and relocating SAP software systems and automating the system copy and refresh procedure. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management provides end-to-end visibility into and monitoring of all physical and virtual infrastructure layers. T-Systems uses SAP Landscape Virtualization Management as well to integrate open-source standard applications and free non-sap applications, such as Apache HTTP Server and the Samba software suite. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management makes it easy for administrators to define and identify dependencies between software systems. The software s landscape visualization functionality provides a graphical view of applications and their underlying infrastructure. T-Systems administrators can conveniently drill down to the relevant level of detail and generate both summaries and detailed reports. We can instantly check which services for SAP applications run on which server. Even in a virtualized environment, we are able to visualize dependencies all the way down to the physical host, notes Micheel. Landscape virtualization with SAP Landscape Virtualization Management supports us in achieving high availability without deploying costly clusters that require a lot of maintenance. Lars Micheel, Delivery Lead, Global Delivery Unit SAP Technology Services, T-Systems International GmbH 7 / 9 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved.

Reaping tangible benefits SAP Landscape Virtualization Management has proved its worth at T-Systems, delivering significant savings and accelerating key processes. Overall, the software has helped T-Systems to reduce the custom development effort in landscape virtualization by 30%. In recurrent system copy procedures, SAP Landscape Virtualization Management reduces the time and effort required for manual postcopy and system refresh steps by 50%. The dashboard views of critical events and system states provided by SAP Landscape Virtualization Management make incident handling more efficient at T-Systems. The mean time to repair has been shortened by 30%. Not only has SAP Landscape Virtualization Management driven substantial gains in productivity at T-Systems, it has also contributed to lowering the skill barrier for administrators. T-Systems combines the multitenant functionality supported by SAP Landscape Virtualization Management with a proven authorization policy. This combination enables the company to centrally manage assets for its customer base in order to deliver cloud services to a large number of customers cost-effectively but without compromising security. 50% Faster postcopy process 30% Less development effort 30% Shorter mean repair time 8 / 9 2015 SAP SE or an SAP affiliate company. T-Systems Pushing for more automation The cloud business is hot, and the SAP services business of T-Systems continues to register doubledigit growth. The rich functionality of SAP Landscape Virtualization Management is set to play an increasing role in supporting the company s cloud-based delivery model. In the near future, T-Systems will make use of the SAP software system cloning functionality that comes with SAP Landscape Virtualization Management. The integration of the SAP HANA platform with SAP Landscape Virtualization Management is also on T-Systems agenda. SAP Landscape Virtualization Management is ready for SAP HANA. We will be able to start and stop SAP HANA and to monitor the health status of SAP HANA without having to develop a single line of code, says Micheel.
