Dear Applicant: Foundation 2000 for Children is pleased to provide The Betty Gray Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.00. Betty Gray, a lifelong educator in Cobb County, has served as teacher, counselor, principal, and board member. She values education and is a tireless advocate for students in the South Cobb communities. The Betty Gray Scholarship will be awarded to students who aspire to further their educational pursuits at either a two-year or four -year institution of higher learning. Applications for scholarships must be postmarked by no later than Friday, March 4, 2016. Scholarship winners will be notified by April 22, 2016, and scholarships will be awarded at the 8 th Annual Foundation 2000 for Children, Inc. s Golf Fundraising Tournament on June 27, 2016 at the Bridgemill Athletic Club, which is located at 1190 Bridge Mill Avenue, Canton, Georgia 30114. The scholarship program is for a graduating senior at the Performance Learning Center, McEachern, Pebblebrook, and South Cobb High Schools only. Incomplete applications and facsimiles will not be considered; however the application may be copied. Please refer to the checklist on page 7 prior to submitting the application. Applicants must attend a two-year or four -year institution of higher learning. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale in order to qualify for the scholarship (PLC students must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA). Applicants are required to submit an official high school transcript in a sealed envelope, along with the completed application. Applicants are required to submit a typed essay that addresses the following topic: Why is it important for me to pursue higher education?
Essays must be submitted in the following format: double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, two page maximum, one inch margin on all sides, name should be typed in the upper right hand corner of each page. The essay is an important part of the selection process, and will be reviewed by application raters. Ratings will be based on the following criteria: Creativity and/or Style Correct use of grammar and punctuation Content and organization Use of research materials to support the topic Applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation. Applicants are required to sign a Scholarship Funds Disbursement Disclaimer. Scholarships are to be used for educational purposes only and funds will not be distributed until winners provide a Student Enrollment Verification Form. Funds will be disbursed in the name of the student and the school. Funds will be mailed directly to the school. After reviewing the applications, the committee may decide to interview the finalists for the scholarship. Candidates will be notified if they are selected for the interviews.

The Betty Gray College Scholarship Application Disclaimer AGREEMENT FOR DISBURSEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS I, (Parent/Guardian) acknowledge and understand that the scholarship awards received by the winners will only be disbursed in a lump sum payment directly to the university/college identified by the scholarship recipient (Student s Name). Foundation 2000 for Children will forward these funds to that institution upon receipt of the Student Enrollment Verification Form in one of two ways: 1. Placed in the student s account with the Financial Aid Office and/or Student Affairs Office 2. Placed in a recognized university/college bookstore account in the student s name. 3. Applicants will have up to one calendar year after the scholarship is received in order to request scholarship funds.
