Our rating's not the highest, our staff's not the hippest and our wall's aren't the funkiest. On the plus side we are the cleanest, safest and one of the most established hostels in Budapest ( and in this business that's saying something!) The hostel is situated in the absolute heart of the City, in a beautiful typically Budapest courtyard building. It's within easy walking distance of all the main sights. The staff are all local Hungarians, and all though not monks or puritans they do agree that 99% of our guests don't want to be awoken from their peaceful slumber by stampeding drunks, hence our policy of no partying in the hostel after 10pm, and definately no stag parties! Come on guys, there's a million This hostel is a short subway ride from the main train station. It is very central, ideally located a couple of blocks from the pedestrian shopping area where there are many restaurants and cafes. It is also a short walk from the Danube River around the corner from a main tram stop and subway station. There is a kitchen, one internet computer, and they will do your laundry while you are out for aprox $5US (1000HUF) a great time saver. There are unfortunately no lockers in the dorms. This hostel is located in a building of private apartments and there is only one shower for 10 beds. This was somewhat inconvenient at times, as was the fact that there was no hot water when in the shower in the evening.

3 of 6 6/2/2008 2:28 PM places to party just please not in our hostel. And plus the neighbours give us hell. Rant over... as veteran backpackers ourselves we do genuinely hope to offer affordable accomodation for backpackers or budget travellers as you are known these days...the hostel has spacious 4 bed dorms, singles, doubles and triples. There's free breakfast, and a huge kitchen which is your's to Amazing! use. The showers have hot water, the toliets are cleaned so regulary we recomend you wear and sunglasses this place! when entering. Clean, fresh bed linen is provided. Like everywhere else there's internet, lockers, laundry, free baggage storage for once you've checked out, 24 hour access and bi lingual staff. For bookworms there is the ever which popular is a Red nice Bus change Bookstore from the slap bang next door where you can trade you're well thumbed paperbacks, and if it's high season and you can't get into the Red Bus, we 've our nearby summer hostel Red Bus II, you occasionally can also check doubles out on as a bed. Hostelz.com! Now if I've done my job correctly, the next thing you'll do is, is book at the Red Bus Hostel and see for your selves, we are the best in Budapest...that rhymes. Your Comments Over all it is a very relaxing, clean well run hostel, a great place for a good night sleep and an unbeatable location. This is an open forum, and unlike other hostel guide websites, we don't censor out the negative -- Exclusive comments. Hostelz.com We do not validate the legitimacy of Review comments posted on this site so take what you read here with a grain of salt. Comment by Luisa, Chile March 2008 Friendly and helpful staff, very well located -- even better than I expected, the breakfast was kind of simple, but it was free so no complaints here, very clean rooms, and the building itself is gorgeous. I loved Budapest Comment by Jim H February 2007 I stayed here at the start and at the end of a three-week trip and found it to be a pleasant stay. The location is good, a stone's throw from the sites in Pest and by the subway. The rooms were spacious too how-many-beds-can-we-possibly-cram-in-here attitude of some other hostels. I found the staff were very friendly and helpful considering my requests -- I arrived from the airport at 12:30 a.m., and had to leave 5 a.m. for the flight back -- not a problem to at all. I left my book there after my first stay and they even kept it for me for the journey back! There's a decent kitchen too as well as a friendly social room where the couch Comment by Rosa August 2006 This was a very good hostel. The rooms and common areas were very clean and our stay went very smoothly. Also, this hostel is in a very central location -- good, safe area, near the subway, and within reasonable walking distance of the train station. The only things I think Features could have been better were the lack of showers (only one for each side so get up early), a bit more of a common area for guests, since the Free Breakfast one they have isn't really condusive to socializing, and locks for the guest Kitchen cubbies, although I felt our belongings were generally pretty safe. This is Lockers not a party hostel, but it is a great, clean central place to stay, and we Lounge / Common space would definitely stay here again. Washing Machine (laundry) Elevator/Lift 24 Hour Free Hot ShowersExcellent place!! Very clean, but there's only one bath/shower so you need to get in early in the morning. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Pretty quiet place. The kitchen is very clean. Comment by Can Girl October 2005 Additional Photos Comment by Llinos Medi Jones August 2005 GREAT, GREAT hostel. This has to be one of the cleanest hostels I've ever stayed in. The staff are really friendly even when they are in the 20th hour of their shift they were always on hand to help with any questions or queries. They haven't got that many spaces, about 4/5 dorm rooms, so it's a pretty quiet hostel but the location is excellent around the corner from the Basilica and about a 10-minute walk to the chain bridge. There aren't any lockers in the hostel each

4 of 6 6/2/2008 2:28 PM guest gets given a cupboard, which is unlockable but staff will take any valuables such as passports and place them behind the reception. I didn't find security to be an issue. The hostel is very proud of the fact that they've never had a reported theft in five years of existence. The only one problem I found with the hostel, if I have to be picky, is the fact that the reception and the guests' common rooms are a shared space. I felt awkward sometimes because of this I wish there would have been a more private space for guests to socialize. But if that is the only thing I can pick upon Breakfast is basic but nice and fresh bread is provided. There is a Match supermarket across the way, about a 2-3 minute walk, where you can buy some added luxuries yourself. A great place to stay in Budapest. Try and do the caving if you can, it's a great experience. I highly recommend this hostel, as an experienced hosteller I believe this is one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed at. Comment by Happy August 2005 I have just come back from staying in this hostel and loved it. It's small and friendly with great staff who were really helpful. I thoroughly recommend it. Comment by Anonymous June 2005 Hostelz.com Poll Which do you use for opinions when choosing a hostel? Comments from Hostelz.com Users (the ones with star ratings) WORST HOSTEL EVER! I couldn't believe the attitude and basically lack of any friendliness from the staff. I was delayed in London and came one day later than our booking to Budapest. I had called and left a message on the answering machine as well as e-mailed the hostel to explain that we missed the flight but we'd be there next day...this is after a booking made months before, credit card given, etc. I was shocked at the staff's blatant reply that basically "too bad, you're late, your room is gone, good luck finding a new place we are full," etc. Needless to say, these people got their Lonely Planet tourists coming over and could care less about any problems since there's probably another sucker waiting to come there. DON'T GO THERE!!! Hostelz.com's own Exclusive Reviews Both Not sure / don't understand Other: Comment by Jimmy November 2004 This is a very clean hostel with a great location. Its smaller rooms with just a few beds were a plus and the breakfast was tasty. I would stay there again. Don't go if you are looking to party, though (at least while you're AT the hostel). Submit Comment by Cigdem and Thorsten September 2004 This place has a very nice and helpful staff! The hostel is in a nice old building, which has its pros and cons. The backyard view was gorgeous! Comment by TB August 2004 Great hostel atmosphere in the courtyard of a gorgeous

5 of 6 6/2/2008 2:28 PM building! Eating with everyone is nice and the kitchen is well stocked (as long as people wash their dishes). The rooms are really airy and spacious and the staff are really friendly. My friends did have problems with checking in, though, because they had lost their reservations. We heard of another girl whose reservations were lost, too. It worked out great for us but sounds a bit sketchy. Comment by Anonymous March 2004 A friend and I dragged all our stuff to this hostel and they claimed not to have our reservation, were extremely rude and wouldn't call a taxi - pah! Comment by Matt Charlton February 2004 Me and my girlfriend stayed here for five nights last year, it was FANTASTIC. So friendly, so secure, great location, great togetherness with other hosetllers as all eat breakfast together. Will be back! Comment by Gary September 2003 The Red Bus Hostel is located in an ancient building, but that's a good thing in this case: lots of character, a cool courtyard, and everything is fairly well maintained. The ten-bed mixed dorms are huge, with high ceilings and lots of windows. Toilet and shower facilities are pretty much adequate, located in the hall. There is a kitchen for common use, and a single computer for Internet access. The staff is friendly and speak English, though at times they seemed a little confused and spent a lot of effort trying to figure out if they were full or not, which involved repeatedly counting the beds. The location is very central, just on the Pest side of the Danube with easy access to the Buda side. The easiest way to get to the hostel is to take the Metro from the Keleti train station two stops in the direction of Deli Pu, and get off at Astoria. From there it's only a five-minute walk; ring the buzzer on the door next to the Red Bus book shop and walk up one floor to reception. Comment by Anonymous July 2003 Although our arrival seemed less than welcomed by the girl at reception that day the others who work there and run the place were more welcoming and helpful (it seems to be run by a group of British). Comment by Andreas Just February 2003 A good hostel in a graet location near to everything. My girlfriend and I stayed here during early January, and although Budapest was very cold we had a warm welcome at the Red Bus, we found they had a great kitchen for all to use, I can say that if anyone is looking for a hostel in Hungary this is the place! Happy travels! Andreas from Hamburg Have you visited this hostel? Post your comments here. 1 of 131 Next»
