Mr. Lafleur presented on the development of the Plan Nord and on the approach taken by the MSSS regarding the contribution of the health care partners. Presently, there are seven mines active, seven projects are in development, fifteen projects are being developed, and twenty-five are with advanced explorations. He pointed out that the scope of the mine workers and residents population is difficult to predict due to the competitiveness and the fluctuation of the economic market. He also stated however, that it is expected that 84% of the potential 18 500 positions in the mine industry in Quebec up until 2021, will be on the North territory. Discussion covered the following points: Importance of involving the RUIS as soon as possible; Diversity of the population on the territory and their socio-economic situation; Involve Telehealth in the planning; State clearly in the contracts the responsibilities of the private sector; Learn from best practices like Australia and Nunavut. Action Plan: PowerPoint presentations will be circulated to the RUIS McGill Steering Committee members. b. Rossy Cancer Network Mr. Robert Busilacchi, Executive Director of the Rossy Cancer Network, presented on the new collaborative network between McGill University, and its Teaching Hospitals. This initiative will be building on the individual strengths of each of the participating institutions with the aim to achieve a world-class comprehensive cancer network with outcomes in cancer survival, mortality and patient satisfaction as good as or better than those of the leading international centres and networks.
