The 2013/2014 cruise season has come to an end after 71 arrivals and more than 100,000 tourists Braemar cruise ship has been the last cruise ship that dropped anchor in Fuerteventura. Everybody is quite happy with the results as 71 cruise ships have arrived (18 more than the previous year) and more than 100,000 passengers. Blas Acosta, the Tourism Minister, said: these passengers are an important source of income not only for the shops, the restaurants and the cafés but also, for the transport sector and all the places of tourism interest. The cruise port and the tourism sector have been working very hard in the last semester. Last October 2013, the Celebrity Eclipse cruise ship was the first embarkation for the season. The results obtained this year are much better than in previous years and are also linked to the increase in the number of tourist who visited Fuerteventura in 2013. Last season, 90,081 cruise passengers arrived in the island. In the 2013/2014 season, there were 18 additional berths and more than 100,000 passengers arrived in the island. In April 2014, AIDAblu, AIDAvita, Braemar and Thomson Celebration cruise ships were the last ships that dropped anchor in Fuerteventura. New routes This Winter, more flights between Zurich and Fuerteventura Edelweiss, will double its Zurich-Fuerteventura flight schedule from next winter 2014-2015. Last winter, there was only one flight on Sundays but, from October 2014, there will be another one on Thursdays. Trade and Travel Shows FTI About 30 German travel agents from FTI group have visited Fuerteventura with our Majorera promoter in Berlin, María Suárez, and the representative of Meetingpoint in Fuerteventura, Anita Roesler. They have made a tour around the island to be able to promote it among their clients. FTI has 18 weekly flights from some cities to Fuerteventura and, Sun Express (which is an airline they work with) also sells tickets at www.sunexpress.com. We have assisted a group of German journalists from Munich, Dusseldorf, Hannover, Stuttgart and Bremen who were invited by the tour operator FTI. They stayed at Meliá Gorriones Hotel and Barceló Hotels. These journalists work for the following magazines: Brigitte, Bonner General Anzeiger, Wesser Report Zeitung, Südwest Presse, Haller Tagesblatt and Westfälischer Anzeiger. They were accompanied by the FTI Product Manager, Valentina Griffin; the Head for Fuerteventura, Sainey Sawaneh and the representativef of Meetingpoint in Fuerteventura, Beate Benthien and Anita Roesler. They had a very busy schedule on the island and they will write about the most outstanding places of Fuerteventura. Expovacaciones 2014 Fuerteventura has been promoted at Expovacaciones 2014, Bilbao Exhibition Centre (Barakaldo). Our Majorero representative, Rayco López has promoted the island and the four weekly flights for this summer between Bilbao and Fuerteventura with Vueling, Air Europa and Evelop. Ireland Last month, Fuerteventura was promoted to travel agents in Dublin and Cork. Our Majorera promoter for the UK and Ireland, Arminda Delgado made an educational presentation at Gibson Hotel in Dublin and at Imperial Hotel in Cork to 80 travel agents. Juan Valencia, the representative of R2 Hotels, also attended these events. Rainbow Tours 25 travel agents from the Polish tour operator Rainbow, have visited Fuerteventura to promote sales from Poland to the island in 2014-2015. The Fuerteventura Tourist Board has a co-marketing agreement with Rainbow.
Promotion Poland Fuerteventura has been promoted in Warsaw due to the festival of the borough of Saska Kepa (it is considered as one of the most symbolic boroughs of the capital). Our Majorero promoter in Warsaw, Florencio González, distributed promotional material there and the people who attended took a real interest in knowing Fuerteventura. Germany Fuerteventura has been promoted in Baden-Baden. It has been a professional event organised by the tour operator Lastminute.com. About 400 travel agents attended this event. Some Majorera companies like Oasis Park and Elba Hotels worked there with our Majorera promoter in Germany, María Suárez. Italy Last month, Fuerteventura has been promoted at Piazza Cordussio by our Majorera promoter, Ana de la Cruz Pérez, in collaboration with Tourspain in Milan. More than 200,000 potential tourists visited our stand where we promoted the flights from Milan and Verona to Fuerteventura for next summer-winter. We organized two events: one street marketing for potential tourists and a work shop for travel agents. Fuerteventura has attended the professional conferences called Spagna a Bologna organized by the Spanish Tourist Office in Milan. There were meetings with travel agents and tour operators who received information about the island thanks to the stand we had at Galvani square in Bologna. Inter-island summer tourism 35 travel agents from Gran Canaria and Tenerife invited by Barceló Hotels and Fred Olsen in collaboration with the Fuerteventura Tourist Board, have made a tour around the island and had some institutional and professional meetings with the Commercial Directors of Barceló Hotels, Fred Olsen, Jandía Playa Hotels and Jandía Mar Hotels. The goal is to increase the visitors from Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
NEWS Fuerteventura has become established as the most important tourist area in Spain The Spanish Statistical Office has published its 2013 report on length of stay. Fuerteventura is the most important tourist area in Spain. Its average length of stay is 8.55%. The report also highlighted that the highest average length of stay in Spain was in Pájara (9.03%). Last April, 404, 833 passengers arrived in Fuerteventura, this is an increase of 19.9% compared to April 2013. About 322,947 passengers have arrived on international flights, this is an increase of 22% compared to April 2013. From January to April, 1,504,142 passengers have arrived in Fuerteventura, this is an increase of 13.1% compared to April 2013.
