Foreword The purpose of this document is to provide Users of the IDL7000M models a clear description how to transfer files (data can be channel lists or audio/video contents) between the PVR and any USB2 stick devices. USB File Transfer Page 3
Transferring files between IDL7000M PVR and USB2 device Connecting an external USB2 device Insert the external USB2 device to the device s plug into PVR host USB connector type A (slot number 11 on Figure 1 below). All messages related to this operation are displayed at the top of the TV screen. Only mass storage class devices with FAT12/16/32 are supported. 1. After inserting the USB2 device, the device will be automatically recognized by the IDL7000M PVR. 2. When the device is inserted USB - Init message is displayed. If the USB2 device is recognized as mass storage with a FAT file system, the mounting of the disk starts. You should see the following message USB - Mounting. 3. If there is no file sytem, the following message will pop-up USB - Not Formatted. 4. If for any reason device cannot be read then "USB - Access Fail" message will be displayed. 5. Successful installation will be confirmed by USB - Init: OK message. 6. Failing installation will display USB - Init: Fail message. USB File Transfer Page 4
Copying files from IDL7000 PVR to USB2 device 1. Enter the library by pressing Library button on the remote control. If this is a USB2 external storage device like USB2 stick, or USB2 Hard Disk Drive, a list of available storage devices will be displayed like below. 2. From the available storage devices list, select Internal Storage. At this stage you can navigate within the folder, where the files to be transferred are located. USB File Transfer Page 5
3. SELECT ARCHIVE/MOVE FUNCTION BY PRESSING MENU KEY TO SWITCH TO FILE SELECTION MODE: 4. Select the files to be transferred. For selecting you can use Mark block begin and Mark block end functions (green remote button) and/or Mark single (blue remote button). USB File Transfer Page 6
5. Select Move to folder function by pressing yellow button. 6. From the storage devices list select appropriate USB storage device USB Device 0 in this case. 7. Select destination folder using navigation keys. You can also create new folder by selecting Create Folder function with green remote button. USB File Transfer Page 7
8. When the destination folder is highlighted, activate Select function by pressing red remote button and then the transfer will start and a window indicating the transfer progress is displayed. 9. In case of insufficient disk space then an error message will be displayed and the transfer will be aborted. See below. USB File Transfer Page 8
Copying files from USB2 device to IDL7000 PVR 1. Enter the library by pressing Library button on the remote control. If there is an external USB storage connected the list of available storage devices the below window will be displayed. USB File Transfer Page 9
2. From the available storage devices list, select appropriate USB device in this case USB Device 0. At this stage you can navigate within the folder, where the files to be transferred are located. 3. 4. Select file(s) to be transferred. For the selection, you should use Mark block begin and Mark block end functions (green remote button) and/or Mark single (blue remote button). 5. Select Move to folder function by pressing yellow button. From the available storage devices list select Internal storage. USB File Transfer Page 11
6. Select destination folder using navigation keys. You can also create new folder by selecting Create Folder function with green remote button. 7. When destination folder is highlighted, Select function by pressing red button of remote control. The file transfer will start and the window indicating transfer progress is displayed. Transferring files between PC and IDL7000 PVR Connecting PC to IDL7000 PVR To connect a PC to an IDL7000 PVR, you need a USB2 cable, a PC running Windows operating system and the PCSuite software that you can download freely on our FTA Web site http://www.ftacom.com/ in the Support Customer section. 1. The cable A type plug must be connected to the PC host slot, and the cable B type plug must be inserted into PVR device USB connector type B (slot number 10 in Figure 1). Figure 1 PVR front panel 2. After connecting PVR, the PC will automatically detect an external removable drive, identified by label IDL7000. The drive letter assigned by the operating system 1 depends on system configuration. In the following example drive letter D has been assigned. 1 It s important to note the drive letter to configure later PCSuite software USB File Transfer Page 14
3. Four files on that drive are required to allow the communication between PCSuite software and IDL7000 PVR. These files should not be modified or deleted, otherwise this will break the connection. In case of file deletion or damage, IDL7000 PVR must power-cycled, files are restored automatically. USB File Transfer Page 15
Configuring PCSuite To access the PVR data, a dedicated software called PCSuite, should be installed on your PC. To configure PCSuite, first run the program, then select function Transfer settings... from Transfer menu. In the settings window check USB radiobutton in the Communication Port group and then select the appropriate drive letter. USB File Transfer Page 16
File management Select function PVR Library Explorer from Transfer menu to open the file manager window. The program will start to retrieve the internal PVR storage content. USB File Transfer Page 17
When finished the internal PVR directory tree is displayed in the file manager window. Downloading files To download the files from IDL7000 PVR to PC select it in the File Manager window, and then select Download function from PVR menu, or icon on the toolbar. Function is disabled if there is no file selected. A window with file destination folder is opened. USB File Transfer Page 18
After confirming with Save button, the file transfer will start, and a progress bar will be displayed. Note: You are only able to download recordings from the PVR if the Options Record Subtitle and Record Audio Track was set to On before recording the files. You will find these options within your PVR Menu: Settings Hard Drive Settings USB File Transfer Page 19
Uploading files To upload files into the IDL7000 PVR, enter the folder to which you want to upload the file, then select Upload function from PVR menu, or icon on the toolbar. A window with file source folder is opened. After file selection, and click on Open button, the upload process starts. USB File Transfer Page 20
Transferring firmware It s possible to upgrade or backup PVR firmware, using PCSuite software. If you have a satellite PVR IDL7000 S CI, this upgrade function is redundant to the OTA service. USB File Transfer Page 21
Upgrading firmware from PC To upgrade firmware select function Upload Firmware from Transfer menu or icon from main window toolbar. A window with firmware source folder is opened. After selection of firmware file and click on Open button., the upgrade process will start If selected file is not correct, a pop-up window wrong firmware version is displayed After successful upload following message will be displayed. It s extremely important not to switch off the IDL7000 PVR, before it automatically reboots after upgrade. USB File Transfer Page 22
Backing-up firmware to PC To backup PVR firmware select function Backup Firmware from Transfer menu or icon from main window toolbar. A window with backup destination folder is opened. Default filename is generated according to the IDL7000 PVR model and firmware version. After confirmation with Save button click, the backup process will start, and progress bar is displayed.
