Octel 200/300 Message Server Configuration Note 6108 - Rev E (03/01) Alcatel 4400 CPT Enhanced DTMF (EMEA) Alcatel 4400 XXX Overture 200/300 Voice Server LINE TRUNK TDM BUS ANALOG PORTS VOICE PATH LIC Call Status Call ID Multiple Return to Operator Message Waiting On/Off Auto-Attendant Outcalling CPU Minimum Software Release R1.3 Minimum Software Release S 3.0.0 Method of Integration 1.0 METHOD OF INTEGRATION With Overture in-band integration, one pathway between the PBX and the Octel system transmits both call information and voice communications. The pathway is provided by 2-wire analog single-line circuits that connect to Overture LIC cards in the Octel system. The LIC cards simulates a 2-wire analog line. The Alcatel 4400 uses Enhanced DTMF In-band Integration which expands the capability of the Octel beyond an interfaced or standard integrated environment. Two levels of DTMF integration are available behind a A4400 PBX. Level 1 DTMF Integration (VPS Protocol) and Level 2 DTMF Integration (VPS 2) Protocol). With VPS 2 protocol there is calling party identification for both internal and external calls (also called Calling Line Identification). The PBX is equipped to send DTMF call records to identify the called party (and calling party if using VPS 2 protocol) as well as a call status in a form of Call Progress Tones (CPT). These DTMF code sequences are used to replace normal telephony cadence tones. This also means that the detection of Call Progress Indication (CPI) is a great deal faster. Appendix A lists the different call types of CPT. The Octel system answers and plays the appropriate greeting. Message-waiting indication is set and cancelled using DTMF commands over the same pathway. Add Attribute 115 to COS if required by the customer who does not want their personal greeting played.

Alcatel 4400 Confidential 14 7.6 PORT COS TABLE A new COS Attribute will be added to enable / disable the DTMF sequence recognition as CPT on a per port basis. This attribute is to be added to the port COS to enable DTMF detection of the CPT tones. This COS attribute follows the same approach as currently implemented for COS 62 ( This port uses Standard Integration) and 68 ( This port is DTMF Integrated ). Ensure Attribute 143 and 68 are added to all Port COS. 7.7 USER TABLE All extension numbers configured for In-band Integration must match the mailbox number, therefore, shared extensions with different mailbox numbers are not allowed. 7.8 APPLICATION DELAY TABLE Application Delay index 79. The Alcatel 4400 PBX is slow to give dial tone after a flash hook is sent from Serenade. The sequence of FE should be placed in system parameter 13 for Transfer Intitiate Code. Application delay 79 should also be set to 8 seconds to allow the Alcatel time to return the dial tone. Application Delay index 141. The Alcatel 4400 PBX models do not provide ring-back tone to voice mail ports if the called number is ringing, making it impossible to count ring-back to determine Ring-No-Answer (RNA). In order to overcome this problem, application delay index 141 is to be used which will define the duration of one ring in milli-seconds units. In the case of internal calls, the value of the information table index 7 (number of rings before extension ring no answer ) multiplied by the duration of one ring will give the time-out for RNA. In the case of message waiting out calls, information table index 8 (number of message waiting rings ) will be used to compute the time-out value for RNA. Typical values are 4 in index 7. Application delay 141 is typically sewt to 5000ms. This means we will screen a call for 20 seconds or about 4 cycles of single interrupted ringback (4 * 5 = 20 Secs).

Alcatel 4400 Confidential 15 Application Delay index 111. Application delay 111 will be used to indicate how long to wait after receiving the first DTMF CPT for the subsequent DTMF digits. Set Index 141 to 5000 msec Set Index 111 to 500 msec Set Index 79 to 8000 msec Set Index 123 to 20000 msec Installing the Line Interface Cards Testing the Installation 8.0 INSTALLING THE LINE INTERFACE CARDS Each LIC supports either 4,8,12 or 16 set appearances. Each LIC port connects to the PBX via the 25 pair connector at the rear of the Octel system. Connect each equipped port to the PBX. Ensure that all Yellow LED s on the LIC cards are extinguished. 9.0 TESTING THE INSTALLATION 9.0.1 Create two mailboxes associated with two test extensions. Record a name and personal greeting for each mailbox. Put a different security code on each mailbox. Call forward the test extensions to the Octel system access number. 9.0.3 Using one test extension, call the Octel Pilot extension number. You should hear To enter your mailbox, press #. Press #,#. You should hear Please enter your security code. Enter the security code and verify that the correct mailbox has been accessed. 9.0.4 Using one test extension, call the other test extension. You should hear the personal greeting. 9.0.5 Leave a message. Verify that the message waiting indicator turns on. 9.0.6 Verify that transfer to attendant works properly. 9.0.7 Call the voice-processing module from a test extension. Log onto the mailbox. 9.0.8 Review the message in the mailbox. 9.0.9 Delete the message. Verify that the message waiting indicator turns off.

CONSIDERATIONS 10.1 There are two levels of DTMF In-Band integration available on the Alcatel A4400 PBX:- Alcatel Standard DTMF In-Band Integration; Alcatel Enhanced DTMF In-Band Integration Please note both types of integration are Enhanced DTMF in Octel understanding. We program up the DTMFINT table in each case. The Alcatel has an Enhanced version of the Enhanced DTMF In-band integration. The Alcatel A4400 must be running release B3.515.7 of the Alcatel version R.1.5.3 software. The Alcatel Enhanced DTMF integration provides the following in addition to the features provided with Alcatel Standard Enhanced DTMF integration:- Calling Line ID for all internal forwarded calls (supported in a networked PBX environment) CLI for all external forwarded calls 10.2 ANI issue if using integration level 2. Overture 200/300 running Serenade 4 release is able to handle Automatic Number Identification (ANI). However, ANI is not supported over DTMF integration. Therefore, ANI digits collected over external forwarded calls will appear over system traces but will not be prompted in the message envelope; even if the user profile includes COS attribute 158. Enable playing of ANI information. 10.3 System Parameter 159. This system parameter (Detect call progress on external calls) must be set to YES. This allows the

Alcatel 4400 Confidential 17 offsite (and internal if required) message waiting notification to work properly: the MWN prompt will start only when receiving the answer status from the PBX (CPT tone C). The user will then hear MWN prompt at the beginning (in the COS profile, set index 16 offsite speak delay = 2 sec). 10.4 Please note this Integration Note is written specifically for the Alcatel 4400 PBX. It may also be used for the Alcatel A4220 (now known as the A4200) but please note the PBX programming section could not be used. All aspects of the integration are the same as for the A4400 but there is currently no Integration Note for it as its install base is very low. 10.5 The maximum number of ports that can be placed in a hunt group is 40. In systems with 40 ports or less the Alcatel PBX will hunt in a cyclic manner. It is strongly recommended in systems greater than 40 ports that hunt consisting of 32 ports be created. The Alcatel will be set-up to hunt in a cyclic manner between ports within each hunt group. The Alcatel will hunt in a linear fashion between hunt groups. 10.6 Please be aware that a problem has been found with Serenade ports not clearing down correctly. This problem can occur when a user exits their mailbox with 99 and hangs up immediately. Under this condition there approximately a 1 in 7 chance of locking the port in the off-hook state. The 99 logoff and immediate hang-up results in the Alcatel sending a B9 as it still thinks we are off-hook. We are going back on hook when we receive the B9 from the Alcatel which leaves the port in a confused off hook state. This has only been noted on one customer site which is also the largest site in France with 128 ports. The problem is only minor as only very large and busy systems will recreate the problem. Patch PATS301.106 resolved this problem. Please ensure patch PATS301.106 is aplied to all new systems. Contact the Euro CSC in order to get this patch applied. Patch PATS400.080 has also been written for Serenade 4.0 systems. Ensure this is applied to this release. 10.7 Alcatel are currently aware of an issue regarding slow dial tone return following a flash hook on a busy system with 128 ports. Typical delays to get a B5 (dial tone) back are about 3 seconds. Systems with this issue will indicate typical return delays of about 6 to 8 seconds. In the meantime, ensure application delay 79 is set to 8000ms to compensate.

Alcatel 4400 Confidential 18 10.8 Alcatel solved a problem relating to supervised calls to mailbox extensions. This problem occurs when Serenade performs a supervised call and the called person answers and then hangs up during the prompt playing phase from the Serenade. We go on-hook but the Alcatel still thinks we are offhook. The Alcatel then makes the PBX voice mail port busy when it sends us a B9 to clear down. This essentially means the ports become busy and there are potentially less to take calls. The fix to this issue is a patch: contact your Alcatel representative. If that patch is applied, the release identification is as follows:- R2.1: B3.515.15.o R2.1: B3.517.9.e R2.1: B3.519.5 R3.0: C1.531.5 R3.0: C1.522XX and C1.530xx R3.1: Any release NOTE: If the problem occurs, the only way to overcome this is to re-initialise the port that has been made busy by the PBX. The port will then take calls again. 2001 AVAYA Inc. All rights reserved. All trademarks identified by the, SM and TM are registered trademarks, servicemarks or trademarks respectively.
