Management philosophy Department management, based on medical specialties with close relations to staff, specialties, and issues are the organization s corner stones! It is the results that counts! This goes for quality, research, education, and activities each with its own value and legitimacy, each measured by its own method. Real time data concerning activity, spending, and quality is an important management tool. 5
Management at hospital level we believe in that! It is possible to work with management locally. We wish to retain our position as Denmark s best hospital. The road to success goes through our staff, who are proud of their business and the results it creates. We must create clear cut incentives. We must provide our professionals with the opportunity to be competent (equipment and research). 6
The use of IT IT has played an important role in our endeavors to develop our hospital and secure high clinical quality, efficient production set up, and high productive hospital in Denmark. We have been working systematically with IT for many years. IT has to be a natural part of our daily life and we need to incorporate IT support into our working processes. 7
We are fact based! We do not make decisions based on assumptions we need facts! We make decisions based on real time data. We load data directly from the operational systems (e.g., electronic medical records) and use them as a basis for future decisions. We are moving away from random samples and are now working with 100% data. 8
Knowledge to be able to act Facts create an overview of things that work and things that do not work. If a function does not work, it is important to locate it. IT ensures a flow 9 It is all about creating a flow the art of finding ways to avoid bottlenecks all over the hospital. It is always better and less expensive to have one porter too many than one too few, because this creates bottlenecks.
Improved working procedures in the clinic Information & Communication Technology is used in the clinical departments in order to optimize working procedures and capacity. Being the first in Denmark, all our doctors use speech recognition for medical records documentation. Previously, the clinical departments carried out random samples four times annually of 1% of the medical records. Now we use software to solve this task, but for 100% of the medical records. 10
Information flow Being the first in Denmark we use Cetrea in the OR, ER and in every ward This IT based clinical logistic system allows clinicians to manage patients, ressources (equiptment, staff, locations etc) Symbiosis between wards, OR and ER minimizes clinicians time wastet, informations lost and increases Patient safety 11
