Boomsma Jonge Founder Dirk Boomsma creates the traditional Dutch Boomsma Genever and Boomsma Beerenburger. Throughout the different generations Boomsma Genever is produced according to his principles: high quality genever with its own distinictive character Today these products are cherrished as part of the family herritage and produced accordingly. Boomsma Genever is a light, crisp and elegant genever with a subtle flavour of juniper berries and a hint of citrus. Best served chilled or on the rocks but also excellent in a cocktail.
Boomsma Genever is a delicate blend of grain alcohols and juniper distillate. This blend is composed of Grain alcohol, Maltwine and Cornwine. The main ingredient is grain alcohol which is produced in a rectification still. The result is a very pure and crisp alcohol. We use two different types of grain alcohol to get the desired quality and taste profile. For Maltwine we use wheat and barley as a basis for the alcohol then it is twice distilled in a pot still until an alcohol volume of maximum 47%. Pott still distillation gives this alcohol has much more flavors than the grain alcohol. Cornwine is produced from the same ingredients as maltwine but we chose to add also rye to give it a more distinctive character. Then the mash is distilled three times in a pott still till an alcohol percentage of maximum 72%. Juniper berry is an essential and obligatory ingredient for genever. We use a juniper berry distillate. All these ingredients are put together according to our family recipe to create the Boomsma taste.
Boomsma Oude The difference between oude(old) and jonge(young) is not the difference in age but a difference in recipe. After WOII there was the upcoming of the rectification still and the industrially produced alcohol. These types of alcohol had less taste and were cheaper to produce. Therefore it was decided that a jenever produced according to the old recipe should be called oude. The others had to be called jonge. But Anton Boomsma always said: old has to be old! Not just a difference in recipe. Therefore the boomsma Oude is aged for at least one year in small oak barrels. The aging in barrels creates a stunning smooth and malty Genever with hints of juniper, vanilla and spices. Great in a cocktail or drunk neat as a digestive.

CLOOSTERBITTER This traditional cloosterbitter is named after the famous monastery Claerkamp, which was situated near the Frisian town Dokkum and demolished 400 years ago. The monastery doesn t exist anymore but this herbbitter with its rich and subtle taste will persist. The distinct green colour of this cloosterbitter is the result of the 17 carefully selected herbs which we use to give Cloosterbitter its incomparable taste. Some of the Frisian herbs are: Nettle, daisy, dandelion, mint, clover, angelica, anise, gentian, white nettle, blessed thisthle, thousand-leaf and the other six remain our family secret.
