There are several terms that we will use to describe your spreadsheet: Workbook, worksheet, row, column, cell, cursor, name box, formula bar. Today you are going to create a spreadsheet to investigate properties of proportional relationships using tables, graphs, and equations. You have completed several activities in class to analyze and predict the values of certain terms. You will need your data sheets to complete this spreadsheet activity. 1. Open Microsoft Excel. 2. Click View on the menu bar. 3. Click Header and Footer 4. Click Custom Header 1

5. In the Left Section type your First & Last Names then press the Tab key. 6. In the Middle Section type the title ; then press the Tab key. In the Right Section type your Teacher s name, press Enter and type your class period. Click OK to close the Header box. 7. Click OK again to close the Page Setup box. 8. Click File on the menu bar. 9. Select Save As and save your spreadsheet in your teacher s folder on the server. Use this format to name your file: Teacher last name Class period---your Last name First name. Example: Smith-4-Doe-John 9.a. Click on the Save in field down arrow and select Students on Cms_fs1\Sys\ 2

9.b. Open the folder called Students. 9.c. Open your teacher s folder. 9.d. Type the file name in the File name field. Then click the Save button. Example: Smith-4-Doe-John 9.e. Click the Save button. 3

Create the data table 10. In cell A1 type Term Number. 11. In cell B1 type Visual Form. 12. In cell C1 type Written Description. 13. In cell D1 type Process Column. 14. In cell E1 type Numerical Value of Term. 15. Select cells A1 through E1. Click-and-drag through the cells with the white shaped cursor. 16. Click the Bold button. 17. Select Columns A through E. Click-and-drag through the column indices with the white shaped cursor. 18. From the menu bar select Format Column AutoFit Selection. 19. In cell A2 type (# of cubes). 20. In cell E2 type (# of faces to paint). 21. Select cells A2 AND E2. Hold down the Control Key to select non-contiguous cells. 22. Click the Center button. 4

23. Select cells A1 through E10. 24. Click Format on the menu bar and select Cells. 25. Click the Border tab. 26. Click the Outline AND Inside buttons. Then click OK. 27. Click Format on the menu bar and select Cells. 28. Click the Number tab. 29. Select General. This step ensures that the cells do not have a previously-set data type that would alter Excel s processing of any entered text, number, or formula. 5

30. Click the Alignment tab. 31. Select Center for BOTH the Horizontal AND Vertical menus. 32. Check the Wrap Text box. 33. Click OK. 34. SAVE your work. Enter data in the table 35.
