Time allowed 1 hour 30 minutes Instructions Use black ink or black ball-point pen. Write the information required on the front of your answer book. The Paper Reference is 40554. Answer four questions. Each question has five parts. Do all rough work in your answer book. Cross through any work that you do not want to be marked. Information The marks for questions are shown in brackets. The maximum mark for this paper is 76. Four of these marks are for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG). This will be assessed in parts 05, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30. The mark is shown below the mark allocation for each question. You will be awarded a mark for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) for each of the four questions that you attempt. The best of these marks will be included in your total for the paper. 2 Answer four questions. There are 18 marks for each question. Each question has five parts. Answer all five parts of each question chosen. There are four additional marks on the paper for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG). Question 1 The Existence of God Look at the photograph. It shows dominoes falling. 0 1 Explain the First Cause (cosmological) argument for the existence of God. 0 2 Explain briefly why some people say that the First Cause (cosmological) argument does not prove the existence of God. 0 3 The design argument cannot prove that God exists. 0 4 Explain why a religious experience could convince someone that God exists. 0 5 Morality (having a sense of right and wrong) proves that God exists. more than one point of view.

3 Question 2 Revelation Look at the photographs. These show people who say they were guided by God. 0 6 Explain briefly what is meant by a person s conscience. 0 7 God can be revealed in the lives and work of people. 0 8 Give an account of a special revelation. 0 9 Explain why some people say that special revelations are illusions. 1 0 There are too many different ideas of what God is like for them all to be true. more than one point of view. 4 Question 3 The Problems of Evil and Suffering Look at the photograph. It shows children who are suffering. 1 1 Explain religious teachings about why there is suffering in the world. 1 2 A loving God would not allow suffering. 1 3 Explain how religious believers can help those who are suffering. 1 4 Explain briefly the difference between evil and suffering. 1 5 There will always be evil in the world. more than one point of view. 5 Question 4 Immortality Look at the photograph. It shows a candle being lit from another candle. 1 6 Explain the idea of rebirth. 1 7 Explain the evidence from scripture (holy books) for life after death. 1 8 Being remembered by others is not immortality. 1 9 Explain briefly the meaning of the term dualism. 2 0 There is no afterlife. more than one point of view. It shows a woman praying for a miracle. 2 1 Give an account of one miracle from someone s personal experience. 2 2 God works in the world through miracles. 2 3 Explain briefly why accepting that God performs miracles might cause problems for religious believers. 2 4 Explain Hume s arguments against miracles. 2 5 The best evidence for miracles is found in scripture (holy books). more than one point of view.

7 Question 6 Science and Religion Look at the picture. It shows stages in the theory of human evolution. 2 6 Explain the theory of evolution. 2 7 It is possible to believe in God and evolution. 2 8 Explain how believing that God created the world might influence the way religious believers live their lives. 2 9 Explain briefly the difference between scientific truth and religious truth. 3 0 The Genesis creation story and the Big Bang theory cannot both be true. more than one point of view.
