Primary School Newsletter P.O.Box 6446, Al Thanya Street, Umm Al Suqeim, Jumeirah, Dubai UAE Tel: 04 348 9804 Fax: 04 348 2586 Web: www.eischools.ae Dear Parents, Thursday 3rd March 2016 Number 21 View from my office Emirates International School - Jumeirah As you will be aware, drop off routines have changed due to the closure of the side road next to the Primary School. In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion and to ensure students are dropped safely to classrooms we have opened a route through school for drop-off only. For those using the new drop off zone, please read the following guidelines and share them with your children where necessary. We will also be reminding children of the routines to ensure their safety at all times: Sunday 28th February 2016 The area is for drop-off only should you need to park your vehicle and leave it unattended, please use the outside spaces Students are to cross at the marked crossing points to ensure their safety. Members of SMT and other staff are available to help. Traffic should remain patiently in single file, unless advised to pass another vehicle by a member of the supervision team this is of paramount importance to ensure all small children are visible and not obscured between vehicles Traffic should not exceed the speed limit of 15 km per hour (to be confirmed by Ahmed) The front gate will close at 7.45am and we expect all vehicles to be off site before 7.50am to allow students safe passage around the campus. Please ask your children to look and listen for other cars, as they are leaving your vehicle we will reinforce this in class time as well Should you wish to drop a very young child, teachers from the Primary School are on hand to escort them to class We thank you for your cooperation in this matter as we work together to make drop off time as safe as possible. We have our DSIB Inspection dates. The team will be with us from Monday March 14th through to Thursday March 17th. Please go to this parent survey link https://www.khda.gov.ae/ Parents which has been sent from KHDA. Today Miss Exley playing I spy with EY1 Horses

Also if anyone has old uniforms you would like to donate to the Raeys Foundation to help children in Ethiopia attend school please contact the parent directly through her email Re-registration 2016-2017 A kind reminder that Thursday, March 03rd is the last day for re-registering your children for 2016/17 as new applicants will receive offers starting Sunday, March 06th. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter to avoid any future inconveniences. Students who will be leaving school at the end of the academic year must also fill in the form by choosing option 3 and submit directly to the Registrar s Office Have a peaceful weekend. Miss J Barbara Exley - Head of Primary Arabic Week The Arabic Department has been celebrating Arabic Week in EIS. Students of Arabic A and B have been participating in reading sessions sharing their learning with members of staff and even our Director Miss Amna Al Habtoor, writing a variety of picture descriptions, acting in plays and sketches. They have come closer to the Arabic culture and celebrated some of the famous personalities in the Arab world. Special thanks to all the parents who have supported this event either by reading to the students or just by encouraging them to take part in the various activities which ran through the week. Jumeir The long-awaited Jumeir is ready! The students have chosen their favourite drawing, and now EIS is closer to having a new Arabic speaking resident. Thank you to all the students who have participated in the competition; the drawings have been amazing and will definitely be saved for later. We are so proud the winning team members are all Arabic B students, thus showing how everyone was excited about the competition and their appreciation of Arabic.

EIS J Primary school students took part in the KidZania Brainiac competition on Monday 29th of February. The general knowledge competition included questions from a mix of topics and subjects including Mathematics, English, Science, Geography and General Knowledge. The 20 students from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 did fantastically well and beat a school from Abu Dhabi by only 5 points to qualify for the quarter finals which take place on Saturday. Ziana won all her 5 games in UAE School Chess Championship and is Grade 1 UAE chess champion. So much hard work she has been doing from past couple of months, spending hours and hours on chess tactics and puzzles. We are really proud of her. She was undefeated in both the Dubai qualifying round and the final. Basel Antar 6D participated in the competition of Dubai cup 2016 for gymnastics last Friday 26/02/2016 (level 4, 4 apparatus) and he got 3 medals (2gold & 1 silver) also he got the overall cup for his level.

Matteo Khattar Y5H ran the 1.5 km race for children and he came in 2nd place. And just for the fun of it; he did the race another two times. Matteo is a Spartan. This put an end to a beautiful week with the Camp in Dibba, where Matteo also loved all the outdoor challenges! Matteo wishes this past week to start all over again.
