There will be songs, stories, snacks, crafts, music and more. There will be a snack each day, if your child has a food allergy, let us know. 2016 College for Kids Course Descriptions High Fives (KIDS 975N) (Age 5, entering kindergarten in the fall) Five-year-olds who will enter kindergarten in the fall will enjoy exploring the ocean this week. Included will be more advanced concepts including days of the week, months, the alphabet, counting and simple math. We will enjoy songs, stories, snacks, crafts, music and more. There will be a snack each day, if your child has a food allergy, let us know. Amazing Machines (KIDS 365N) Join in the fun as we build rockets, hot air balloons and even marshmallow-launching catapults. We will be using a variety of materials such as K Nex and craft sticks. Each day we will build something new. Come join us as we build amazing machines. Baby-sitting Basics (KIDS 200N) (Bring $6 lab fee to first class) Learn what to do in an emergency or in case of illness: how to prevent accidents, playing with children of various ages, selecting safe toys and games, and how to dress, diaper and feed infants. Upon completion, students receive a certificate from the American Safety and Health Institute. Bait Shop Biology (KIDS 339N) Learn about the aquatic organisms that live in and near ponds and lakes of Nebraska. Explore water samples in class to observe microorganisms, earthworms, crawfish, minnows and more. Participate in a study of area lakes to determine if they are polluted. Be ready to get your hands dirty as you interact with interesting creatures from the bait shop. Cooking with Science (KIDS 363N) Do you have an appetite for science? In this class, we will explore cooking through hands on science experiments. Students will eat their way through exciting learning opportunities using elements like matter, solar power and many more fun interactive projects. Come hungry and ready to taste test this week. Crazy Chemical Concoctions (KIDS 212N) Bring out the mad scientist! Join us as we learn the principles of chemistry while experimenting with ordinary household items. Discover how and why ordinary supplies like vinegar, lemon juice, salt, sugar and glue can create bubbling, oozing, slimy substances sure to gross out your parents. We will have a world of fun while learning chemistry basics. Experiment with the Brain (KIDS 323N) Explore the wonderful world of the human brain! Find out what part of your brain helps you talk, think, smell and feel. Answer questions to find out if you are right brained or left brained. We will talk about traumatic brain injury and why you need helmets and seat belts. Design and build a helmet for a pseudo-brain (raw egg) and drop it from a significant height to test your design. All age levels will get to dissect an actual sheep brain.

Five-Day World Tour (KIDS 360N) What is so great about the Great Wall? Does it really rain every day in the rainforest? Come with us to tour the world and explore the nations. Every day will be a new adventure as we discover foreign lands and cultures, eat local foods and play games from other countries. Join us to find out more about the world around you. Great Outdoor Games (KIDS 320N) Children learn best when they are engaging in physical activity. Each day will be an opportunity to pick up some new skills, learn teamwork, demonstrate good sportsmanship and enjoy great games outdoors. All skill levels are welcomed to join us for a little practice, a little coaching and a lot of fun. Mad Scientist (KIDS 359N) Like getting your hands dirty while learning about science? Want to build epic towers using only spaghetti, melt soap and toilet paper for squishy slime and create hot ice? Experiment like a scientist, concoct like a chemist and design like an engineer. Every day will be a new oozing, rocketing, hairraising experience as we explore just how fun science can be. Math on the Move (KIDS 347N) This class goes way beyond pencils and worksheets. We will review math skills, play math games and get moving as we solve problems. The problems you will solve will get you moving and thinking. Did you ever think you could do math AND have a ton of fun? Sign up for this class and you can. Minion Mania (KIDS 362N) Indulge in a week full of minion FUN! Students will spend each day making and eating a minion snack, creating a minion craft, playing minion games and even learning to speak in minion. It is everything minion do not miss the zany fun. Passport to Printmaking (KIDS 358N) Explore the versatile world of printmaking by creating a different masterpiece each day. With our passport journals in hand, we will explore various printmaking techniques through the work of artists from all over the world. Pharaohs to Pyramids (KIDS 364N) Discover facts about the ancient Egyptians as you learn to draw faces, write your name in hieroglyphs and create artwork worthy of royalty. Jewels, gold and precious metals complete your regal artwork. Taking the Stage (KIDS 275N) Get your feet wet with a taste of theatre! Learn to develop your acting and improvisational skills. We will create characters with costumes and props. Traveling Taste Buds (KIDS 361N) Travel to Europe, Asia and South America without ever leaving the classroom.
