Automatic Hook Couplings Types RUwg K O D, K 1 D, K 2 D, K 3 D, K 4 D for towing eye according to VG 74059 (NATO ring eye) Type RUwg K 0 D Type RUwg K 2 D Type RUwg K 3 D Type RUwg K 1 D Type RUwg K 4 D Care and Maintenance Due to their construction, RINGFEDER hook couplings have been designed to the rough conditions of cross country operation. As a consequence of their robust make, the necessary care and maintenance is now restricted to a minimum. The drawbar guide with its components is maintenance free. Greasing has to be performed only on the coupling head. We recommend to grease the coupling monthly, in case of continuous trailer operation every 3.000 km at the latest, otherwise every 10.000 km using Nato-grease G 403 or a similar lubricant. cleaned, hooks as well as towing eyes have to be greased afterwards. During all maintenance procedures always look for a perfect function of coupling automatic and security. Dimensions of Towing Eye to VG 74 059 Towing eyes that may be turned in the tow bar of trailers require trailer couplings being in a stable position in the cross member. Therefore, in connection with hook couplings of the series RUwg, only fixed towing eyes may be employed. Further Delivery Programme Besides the Automatic Hook Couplings of series RUwg described in this leaflet, other automatic and non automatic hook couplings are available for higher loads and special purposes. Please ask for corresponding catalogues in case of interest.in order to avoid extreme wear and tear of the hook, also the coupling hook and towing eye should always be well greased. After cross country rides, dirty couplings and towing eyes should be

Automatic Hook Couplings RUwg Regarding Motor Vehicle Construction and Use Regulations, only automatic bolt couplings are allowed for vehicles of civilian use. The articulation of the towing eye which can be attained with these couplings satisfies the requirements as far as normal road traffic is concerned. In special cases, however, predominantly in the military field, a smooth operation with the trailer must be ensured even under the most difficult conditions of ground. Demands for higher freedom of motion of the towing eye, for releasing of the coupling under load, and employment of the existing Nato ring eye have led to the construction of the RINGFEDER Automatic Hook Coupling, series RUwg. Trailer couplings of this series have proved a success not only for the German Armed Forces but also for other military organisations. When the German Armed Forces introduced the new vehicle generation, also the hook couplings had to be worked over and adapted to the wishes regarding less maintenance and more driving comfort. This catalogue represents the series RUwg resulting from such considerations. Mounting: of the Hook Coupling RUwg Size KOD Without being dismantled, the coupling is pushed in the hole of the rear cross member in direction of travel with fitting bolts M 10, quality 8.8 being inserted the way that bolt heads point in the direction of travel. The length of bolts has to be adapted to the size of the cross member. In order to compensate length only two washers are permitted to be mounted, i. e. one below the bolt head and the other below the nut. Nuts should be tightened with the torque indicated by the bolt manufacturer. The fitting bolts are not included in our delivery programme. Concerning the selection of the fitting parts by the vehicle manufacturer, the regulations of TÜV*- pamphlet Screw Connections and their Safety in Automotive Engineering, ed. of May 1973, must be taken into account. * Organisation for Technical Inspection of Vehicles Operation of Type RUwg Size K O D Coupling: To make the coupling, push the towing eye against the handle (7). It will automatically fall into the hook. The coupling is now closed and secured. Uncoupling: To release the coupling, push the handle (7) forward by hand in the direction of travel, the towing eye can now be lifted out of the hook. Afterwards the handle will fall back into the ready-for-coupling position. Mounting: unbau of the Hook Coupling RUwg Size K1D to K4D For mounting remove protecting cap (31) and take off castle nut (29), spring washer (28), tension washer (27), back rubber spring and drawbar guide (25) from the drawbar(1) Insert drawbar guide (25) contrary to direction of travel in the rear cross member. Set in fitting bolts with bolt heads pointing in the direction of travel. Adapt length of bolts to the size of cross member. In order to compensate length of bolts, only two washers are permitted to be mounted, i. e. one below the bolt head and the other below the nut. Tighten nut with the indicated torque. The fitting bolts are not included in our delivery programme. Concerning the selection of fitting parts, please take into account the regulations of TÜV* pamphlet concerning Screw Connections and their Safety in Automotive Engineering, ed. of May 1973. Push drawbar (1) with complete coupling head and remaining front rubber spring and thrust washer through the bore in the drawbar guide (25). Slip on back rubber spring, tension washer (27) and spring washer (28) and tighten castle nut (29). Insert cotter pin (30) and bend up both sides. Slip on protecting cap (31). Operating of Type RUwg Sizes K 1 D to K 4 D Opening the Coupling 1. Pull the retaining shackle (21) outwards and swing in the direction of the coupling catch. 2. Push the handle (6) towards direction of travel. Coupling 1. Back up the vehicle, holding the towing eye of the trailer at the same level as the coupling. The coupling closes and is locked automatically. 2. Should the hook not close, on account of the towing eye being in an unfavourable position, pull the handle (6) backwards until the retaining shackle (21) clicks into place by itself (sometimes a jerk of the tractor vehicle will help). Checking the Safety Lock Every time a trailer has been coupled to a vehicle, it is essential to check that the retaining shackle (21) is fully engaged. At night this can be checked by hand. Uncoupling 1. Pull the retaining shackle (21 ) to the right and swing it in direction of the coupling catch. 2. Push the handle (6) in direction of travel. (Caution! This releases the towing eye which now drops). 3. If considerable traction is being exerted on the coupling, use a lever or something similar, inserting it between the coupling catch and the handle.
