ABOUT US Prospect Hospice... Prospect Hospice needs your support, today and always. Without you, and people like you, there wouldn t be a hospice for the people of Swindon and north Wiltshire. IT is through your support that we are able to provide round-the-clock, end-oflife care for people for more than three decades. With just a quarter of our funding from the NHS and other statutory sources, your support will always be needed for us to bring our unique care to our community. Prospect Hospice is the leading provider of dedicated end-of-life care in Swindon and north Wiltshire, supporting a community of more than 280,000 people. Founded in 1980, we bring care, comfort and confidence in our support for more that 1800 patients each year, and compassionate support for their families. Our care is given freely to those who seek our help, but we are dependent on the continuing generosity of the local community. You can help us to deliver our care by helping us to raise the 5m+ we need to run Prospect Hospice each year. Our care is given in more places than you might expect. We have a unique team of nurses who visit patients in their own homes throughout their illness; a Day Hospice, which welcomes people for a weekly visit focused on promoting independence and coping, and offering support with their symptoms; a 14-bed Inpatient Unit in Wroughton, where people come for respite care, symptom assessment and care at the very end of their life; for people who want to spend their last days and hours at home, practical care and support is available through our nurse-led Prospect@Home service. Prospect Hospice also has a team of specialist nurses who support the care of patients at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. This booklet is about how you can support our work, and how we can help you to achieve your fundraising targets. If you would like to know more about our work, please visit www. prospect-hospice.net or follow Prospect Hospice on Facebook or Twitter....your hospice PROSPECT hospice cares for many patients and their families each year. Prospect Hospice ambassador Julie Tweddell knows from her own experience why your support for us makes such a difference: I know that the money raised through the Prospect Lottery goes to good use, as my husband Richard was a patient at Prospect Hospice. The care they gave to him, from his diagnosis until the very end of his life, was just wonderful. They didn t just care for him they cared for me, and for our girls too. I don t know how we would have coped without them. Because Prospect Hospice s care is free, the money they raise is vital for all that they do for patients and their families, and with your support, you will be helping local families like mine. So I have taken part in events for Prospect Hospice since Richard died, to raise money for the charity that supported him and us when he was dying. It has been my way of saying thank you for the care he received, and taking part has been great fun, especially when friends Taking part in events for Prospect Hospice is my way of saying thank you for the care he received Julie Tweddell Prospect Hospice ambassador have joined me. Thank you so much for raising funds for Prospect Hospice. For families like mine, it makes such a difference. Prospect Hospice s ambassadors are available to speak with groups from our community about our work. Please call 01793 816167 if you would like an ambassador to speak at your meeting. 2 Prospect Hospice Fundraising Pack Prospect Hospice Fundraising Pack 3

Why not take one for your business or reception? Taking a collection tin for your business is a great way for you to show your support for a local charity and make a really valuable contribution towards our care. Already, hundreds of supporters in our area keep one of our boxes in their homes to collect their loose change, amounting to many thousands of pounds in loose change every year. Many local businesses also keep one of our collecting tins in their reception. One of our volunteers will come to your premises twice a year (at a time to suit you) to collect the contents of the boxes, and, once the money has been counted we will provide you with a Certificate of Fundraising to let your staff, customers and visitors know how much you have raised. Here s a few points to remember when deciding to use collection buckets: The tin or bucket must carry your name, address, contact number and the date it was provided to you and must remain sealed at all times. You must provide the Fundraising Office with details of where each unit is sited (for static tins / buckets) or to be used (for street collections) Don t forget to consider security when collecting money. Does the bucket need to be chained to the bar / table? Take extra care in transporting your takings. If you would like to take a collecting box or tin for your reception, please contact the Fundraising Team on 01793 816161 4 Prospect Hospice Fundraising Pack Prospect Hospice Fundraising Pack 5

Cause-Related Marketing ABOUT US Cause-related marketing Cause Related Marketing is a mutually beneficial way for businesses to link with charities or good causes, addressing the charity s issues by providing resources and funding, whilst also addressing business marketing objectives. Fundraising Ideas THERE are now many versions of causerelated marketing, but basically it is an agreement between a business and a nonprofit to raise money for a particular cause. The business expects to profit by this arrangement by selling more products through the association with a respected nonprofit or cause. A cause-related marketing program lets the public know that your company is socially responsible and interested in the same causes that they are. The nonprofit benefits both financially and through a higher public profile as a result of its partner s marketing efforts. Cause-related marketing campaigns can appear in a variety of interesting forms: If you would like to talk to someone about setting up a Cause-related marketing scheme please contact the Fundraising Team on 01793 816161 Purchase Plus. This is a campaign waged at the checkout line at grocery stores or other retail venues, where customers are asked to add a donation to their bill. Promotion of the cause is usually pretty low-key but that makes these programs easy to set up. Licensing of the nonprofit s logo, brand, and assets. Licensing runs the gamut from products that are extensions of the nonprofit s mission to using its logo on promotional items such as T-shirts, mugs, and credit cards to having the nonprofit provide a certification or commendation of particular products. Cobranded events and programs. Maybe your company could get involved in one of our fundraising events - there are many ways in which we could help to market and promote the event - and your brand - to our supporters Auctions Why not try a 'slave for the day' auction: Senior Managers are auctioned off to be someone s slave for the day e.g. Helping with admin chores around the office, or working on the shop floor for a day. Carol Concert Carol concerts start as early as November; make sure you leave time to practice. Fashion Show A group of staff put on a fashion show, charge to watch. Indoor market/craft Fayre Why not offer local businesses a spot in your canteen, or reception for a small rental cost or a cut of the profits from each stall. Music concert Concerts can be coordinated to suit all musical tastes, whether you want to perform yourself or hire some local bands. Tickets can be sold in advance and at the door. Why not throw in a raffle or games in the intervals? Marathon events Table tennis, aerobics, line dancing or badminton all make good marathon events. Or pupils could try to run the equivalent of the London Marathon collectively. Non-uniform/fancy dress day Everybody pays 1 to come to work in their own clothes. Managers could be sponsored to come in wearing fancy dress! Pantomimes A great Christmas seller and good fun for performers and audiences alike. Quiz night Quizzes are also good to use in an interval at any event. Staff Got Talent Do you have staff with talents or skills outside of work? Why not organise a talent show or competition and let them show them off to the rest of the team? Maybe staff could donate money to vote for the act they like the best? 8 Prospect Hospice Fundraising Pack Prospect Hospice Fundraising Pack 9

GIVE AS YOU EARN Give as you earn Give as you Earn (Payroll Giving or Workplace) is a tax free way for UK tax payers to give money to Prospect Hospice What else can you do? INTRODUCED in 1987, Payroll Giving is a simple, tax efficient scheme which allows employees to give money to the UK registered charity of their choice by having a deduction taken straight from their gross pay. There is no tax for the charity to claim back as no tax was deducted. Some companies match or part match their employee donations via Payroll Giving. Each time your employee is paid, your payroll department just needs to deduct their donation before tax. So, if your employee pledges 5 per month, they pay 4 and the taxman will add 1. More than 8,500 employers in the UK currently operate the scheme, and circa 2% of UK employees Give As You Earn means: Regular donations come from the employee s salary before tax For a basic rate taxpayer every pound given only costs 80p even less for higher rate taxpayers Charities can plan their activities sustainably, knowing they re getting regular donations Benefits for you Improved staff morale, teamwork and motivation Enhanced corporate image and reputation Makes your employees feel good about working Payroll Giving is a simple, taxeffective scheme to give money to UK registered charities. for you! Positive PR opportunities Sense of social responsibility You can use Matched Giving to support your staff s generosity in a variety of ways: A payment of the scheme s administration costs 100% match, to equal each employee s gift pound for pound. Check if your company is already registered with the Charity Aid Foundation (CAF) to offer the scheme. Call their GAYE helpline on 01732 520 019. 2. Registration is free and involves completing three simple forms. These are available at giveasyouearn@cafonline. org or call the GAYE helpline. 3.
