APPENDIX I MILITARY-RELATED EXPERIENCES APPLIED TO THIS DEGREE The college guarantees to grant the following course credits from the military-related learning experiences listed below to the extent that they match degree requirements. Maximum credit is shown for each item. It is necessary to match the credit to actual requirements, eliminating duplication and addressing instances where the credit is insufficient to meet the total requirement. For example: Is there a way to compensate for the credit short-fall or does the experience fail to meet the requirement? See the individual requirement pages for guidance and choose where the credits can most effectively be applied. ***Important: This evaluation should culminate in a Student Agreement.*** MILITARY-RELATED EXPERIENCE A B OPTIONAL NOTES 21-214 AR-2201-0399 Basic Training 3/00-Present 4 5 Requirement R 21-214 AR-2201-0399 Basic Training 7/85 2/00 4 3 Requirement R B-326-0010 AR-1715-0759 AIT 1/05-Present Pending evaluation B-326-0010 AR-1715-0759 AIT 12/95-12/04 24 24 Requirements L, N 4B-F2/198 AR-1715-0759 AIT 10/90-11/95 23 23 Requirements L, N, O, R 4B-F2/198 AR-1715-0759 AIT 9/87-9/90 19 13 Requirements L, N, O, R 4B-F2/198 35G AR-1715-0316 AIT 8/83-8/87 11 8 Requirements L, N, O, R 4B-F2/198 35G AR-1715-0316 AIT 1/79-7/83 0 0 600-00-PLDC AR-2201-0253 PLDC 10/93-9/05 4 4 Requirement R 600-00-PLDC AR-2201-0253 PLDC 10/93-9/03 4 4 Requirement R 600-00-PLDC AR-2201-0253 PLDC 3/89-9/93 3 3 Requirement R 4B-670A AR-1715-0639 Medical Equip 15 12 Requirements N, O, R Repairer Adv 1/90-Present 4B-670A AR-1715-0639 Medical Equip 15 12 Requirements N, O, R Repairer Adv 8/85-12/89 4B-670A AR-1715-0639 8/82-7/85 15 12 Requirements N, O, R 4B-670A AR-1715-0639 7/79-7/82 12 9 Requirements N, O, R AR-0705-0005 Medical X-Ray 3 3 Requirement R Survey 4/01-Present AR-0705-0005 Medical X-Ray 3 3 Requirement R Survey 11/83-3/01 4B-F5/198-F5 AR-0705-0007 Polyphase X-Ray 8/80-8/96 0 0 4B-F6/198-F6 AR-0705-0008 BRII Compliance 8/80-8/96 0 0 AR-1406-0090 BNCOC Common Core, 10/01-3 3 Requirements C, R Present AR-1406-0090 BNCOC Common Core, 4/94-9/01 2 2 Requirements C, R AR-1406-0090 BNCOC Common Core, 1/90-3/94 1 1 Requirements C, R 6-8-C40 AR-1408-0203 BNCOC 5/02-Present 9 9 Requirement R 6-8-C40 AR-1408-0203 BNCOC 6/98-4/02 3 3 Requirement R 6-8-C40 AR-1408-0203 BNCOC 4/95-5/98 6 6 Requirement R 6-8-C40 AR-1408-0203 BNCOC 10/91-3/95 3 3 Requirement R 6-8-C40 AR-1408-0068 BNCOC 5/78-9/91 8 7 Requirement R 4009BNCOC AR-1406-0090 BNCOC Core 3/86-3/94 1 1 Requirement R AR-14046-0035 ANCOC Com Core, 10/01-9/05 4 4 Requirements C, R AR-14046-0035 ANCOC Com Core, 10/00 9/01 4 4 Requirements C, R AR-14046-0035 ANCOC Com Core, 4/94 9/00 2 2 Requirements C, R AR-14046-0035 ANCOC Com Core, 2/89 3/94 2 2 Requirements C, R Continued 68A (91A) Thomas Edison St College BSAST Biomedical Electronics 1-30-06 Updated May 2014 24

In the Optional Notes column, you can write the requirement letter code and semester hours drawn from each experience as it is applied to a specific requirement on the following pages. The total credit for each experience cannot exceed the credits shown in the B column. Steps for Applying Military-Related Learning Experiences 1. In the margin mark each learning experience that can be validated for the soldier. Choose only the highest level attained. 2. Review the individual letter-coded requirements pages and devise a preliminary strategy for applying the credits. A. Work from the most specific to the more general requirements (i.e., first, specific requirements; next, specific categories of electives; last, free electives). B. Work from completely satisfied requirements to partially-met requirements (i.e., unless there is a satisfactory way to make up for the shortfall in credit, the requirement might not be met by the particular experience. See college policy on the letter-coded requirement page.). C. Check for possible duplication by considering whether two or more credit recommendations are based on the same learning experience (e.g., was a skill credited for the also granted for AIT in an instance where that skill was fully learned in AIT? It is possible for a skill to be properly credited from two sources if the learning acquired in each setting is sufficiently different, but caution is needed to avoid duplication.) 3. Track the credits consumed in the table above, noting the requirement letter code and the semester hours applied. 68A (91A) Thomas Edison St College BSAST Biomedical Electronics 1-30-06 Updated May 2014 25

APPENDIX III HOW TO USE REQUIREMENT PAGES 1. REQUIREMENT A college course (or the broader category shown in lieu of a course) required for the degree. 2. SH (SEMESTER HOURS) Semester (or quarter - QH) hours of unduplicated credit needed to meet the requirement. Unduplicated means that the same learning experience cannot already have been used to satisfy another requirement, and that if you combine smaller amounts of recommended credit to meet the total, they must represent unique learning experiences. 3. The letter-number combinations shown represent categories of comparable courses in the system that are guaranteed to transfer. Use the SOC Degree Network System Handbooks to find specific college courses in the categories (SOC-2 Handbook for associate degrees; SOC-4 Handbook for bachelor s degrees). The categories are found in Chapter 8 of the handbooks. Your objective is to identify a college offering a course at a location where you can attend since they are generally not distance learning courses. Once found, determine if it is currently offered and enroll using the procedures of your Army Education Center. SOC Degree Network System Handbooks are available at www.soc.aascu.org/. 4. If the requirement lists credit for your, work with the college evaluator preparing your Student Agreement to establish that it fully meets the requirement (i.e., it is worth the required number of SH) or that it can be combined with other credit sources. Avoid duplication of credit. ACE Guide Online is available at www.militaryguides.acenet.edu/ if you want to examine recommendations in detail. 5. If the requirement lists credit for a military school you have attended, work with the college evaluator preparing your Student Agreement to establish that it fully meets the requirement (i.e., it is worth the required number of SH) or that it can be combined with other credit sources. Avoid duplication of credit. ACE Guide Online is available at www.militaryguides.acenet.edu/ if you want to examine recommendations in detail. 6. CERTIFICATE/LICENSE If the requirement lists credit for a certificate or license you hold, work with the college evaluator preparing your Student Agreement to establish that it fully meets the requirement (i.e., it is worth the required number of SH) or that it can be combined with other credit sources. Avoid duplication of credit. Additional information is available online at https://www.cool.army.mil, www.acenet.edu/calec/corporate, and www.dantes.doded.mil. 7. If the requirement lists acceptable tests and you would like to take them, consult your local Army Education Center or additional information is available at www.dantes.doded.mil. 8. If the requirement shows that distance learning courses are available, contact the college regarding its courses or examine DANTES Independent Study Catalog listings at www.dantes.doded.mil. 68A (91A) Thomas Edison St College BSAST Biomedical Electronics 1-30-06 Updated May 2014 28

APPENDIX IV SELECTING THE RIGHT DEGREE 1. SELECTING THE RIGHT CAREER DEGREE PLAN There are three kinds of degree plans: (1) Army Career Degree: Typical civilian degrees that match the specialty skills of an, (2) Army Degree General: Typical civilian degrees with more general content, and (3) Army Degree Specialized: Degrees especially crafted to accommodate the uniquely military or otherwise not-easily-matched-to-civilian-courses skills of an. CAREER DEGREE PLAN The Army Career Degree is based on college degrees that uniquely relate to an 's skills and contain specific college courses that match its competencies. (Example: A computer studies degree in which recommended credit for military learning is assigned to college courses typically found in a computer studies major.) CAREER DEGREE PLAN - GENERAL The Army Career Degree General is based on college degrees that match the recommended credit from Army learning experiences to their requirements in more general ways. Military credit recommendations are assigned to one or more general categories (e.g., a "Skill Area", "Career Component", "Professional Focus", "Emphasis", "Aviation Maintenance" or another broad subject area) instead of to specific college courses uniquely identified with the 's special competencies. Possibly useful to soldiers, but less effective in mapping competencies to civilian college courses normally associated with their specialties. The degree may have a General Studies, Management, or other broad title, possibly useful to soldiers, but not uniquely related to the 's special competencies (Example: A computer specialist matched to a degree in Management or General Studies rather than computer studies). CAREER DEGREE PLAN - SPECIALIZED The Army Career Degree Specialized has many of the same qualities as the General degree except its title and major courses may be predominantly military in nature or are otherwise different than a typical civilian course for the same skill. The degree title and major courses would not typically be found in civilian higher education. As with the General Purpose degree plan, the Specialized one may be useful to soldiers but would be less effective in mapping competencies to civilian college courses normally associated with their specialty. (Example: A college degree named for a military specialty and containing courses that are unique to it.) continued 68A (91A) Thomas Edison St College BSAST Biomedical Electronics 1-30-06 Updated May 2014 29

continued 2. BROADER GENERAL DEGREE CHOICES A number of colleges offer flexible degrees that combine military credit and general education to form flexible, efficient-for-soldiers degrees. If it is not important that the soldier s degree closely resemble a civilian one in the occupational specialty (i.e., be comprised of major-area courses normally associated with the field), such a program might be appropriate. Many General Studies network curriculums found in the SOC Degree Network System-2 fit this model. Examples of Internet accessible distance learning programs of this kind can be found at: www.excelsior.edu, www.tesc.edu, www.umuc.edu, www.ctcd.edu, and others (refer to the SOC Degree Network System-2 Handbook, www.soc.aascu.org, Locations by Network). 3. WILL YOU CONTINUE FOR A BACHELOR'S DEGREE? Some s have bachelor's degree plans you can pursue directly without an interim associate degree. With this approach you have no transfer concerns, but if you stop short of completion you have no interim degree. An associate degree's title (e.g., AA, AS, AAS, etc.) alone will not ensure successful transfer to a bachelor's degree program. It depends more on the correct matching of the 2- and 4-year programs' course content. Read the Degree Objective statement on the degree plan carefully. If questions remain, raise them with the bachelor's degree program to which you intend to transfer. It is important to select the right courses based on considerations like: Are they intended to transfer? Do they have a place in your bachelor's degree curriculum? Must they be taken in the upper division (junior or senior year) of a bachelor's degree institution? 68A (91A) Thomas Edison St College BSAST Biomedical Electronics 1-30-06 Updated May 2014 30
