SMART Notebook Software Working With Objects The SMART Notebook software toolbar offers a variety of tools for drawing and creating objects. Select Tool Use the Select tool: to move or resize an object to stop using another tool when you are not using any other tool Pens & Highlighters Click on the arrow to the right of the Pens & Highlighters tool to choose a pen or highlighter. (Clicking directly on the Pens & Highlighter tool selects the first default pen.) There are 6 default pens and 2 default highlighters. To change the default choices, choose Customize Pens & Highlighters. When finished with the Pens & Highlighters tool, click the Select tool. 1

Creative Pens the Creative Pens tool to choose a creative pen. (Clicking directly on the Creative Pens tool selects the first default creative pen.) When finished with the Creative Pens tool, click the Select tool. Eraser the Eraser tool to choose an eraser width. (Clicking directly on the Eraser tool selects the first default eraser width.) When finished with the Creative Eraser tool, click the Select tool. 2

Lines the Lines tool to choose line style. (Clicking directly on the Lines tool selects the first default line.) To change the default line choices, choose Customize Lines. When finished with the Lines tool, click the Select tool. Shapes the Shapes tool to choose a shape. (Clicking directly on the Shapes tool selects the first default shape.) By default, all shapes will have a black stroke and a white fill. (Use the Line & Fill tool to edit.) To change the default shape choices, choose Customize Shapes. When finished with the Shapes tool, click the Select tool. 3

Text Click on the arrow to the right of the Text tool to choose a text style. (Clicking directly on the Text tool selects the first default text style.) There are 6 default text styles. To change the default choices, choose Customize Text. When finished with the Text tool, click the Select tool. Line & Fill Color First, select an object (pen writing, highlighting, line, shape, text). Click on the Line and Fill Color tool. Choose a line and/or fill color. NOTE: Outline Color is an available option for Pen, Highlighter, Lines, and Text. Both Outline Color and Fill Color are available for Shape objects only. This option is not available on Creative Pen objects. 4

Transparency First, select an object (pen writing, line, shape, text). Click on the Transparency tool. Choose a degree of transparency. NOTE: Transparency is an available option for Pens, Highlighter, Lines, and Text only. This option is not available on Creative Pen and Highlighter objects. Line Properties First, select an object (pen writing, highlighting, creative pen writing, line, shape Click on the Line Properties tool. Choose a line width and/or style. NOTE: Line Properties is an available option for Pens, Highlighter, Creative Pen, Lines, and Shapes. This option is not available on Text objects. 5

Rotate and Resize All objects (pen writing, highlighting, creative pen, line, shape, text) can be resized and/or rotated. Select the object first, then click and drag the appropriate handle. Objects Menu All objects (pen writing, highlighting, creative pen, line, shape, text) have a side menu. Select the object first. Then click the grey arrow in the upper right hand corner, and choose the appropriate action. Clone: instantly makes a copy of the object without having to copy and paste Cut: deletes the object, but copies it to the clipboard so that it can be pasted elsewhere Copy: traditional copy command Paste: traditional paste command Delete: deletes the object from the page Locking: locks object on page, allow only rotation, or allow only move Flip: left/right or up/down Infinite Cloner: allows copy and paste by dragging object to a blank area of the page Link: link an object to a webpage, another page in the SMART Notebook presentation, or a file on your computer Sound: link an object to an mp3 file on your computer 6
