CD Burning For Your Audible Audio How Do You Burn? Burning to CDs takes three simple steps: Determine the title to burn and format to download Burn to CD Listen! Sample My Library Get it now Web Page 2

Get It Now Choose Your Selection to Burn From My Library on the website, you can choose your title and how you would like to listen to it. There are three action steps: Choose your title to burn to CD Choose a format Choose a delivery method for CD Burning you must select Download Choosing a Format Audible audio titles are available in a variety of formats. Any format can be used when burning CDs. You can choose a format based on file size and the sound fidelity. The format choice will have no effect on the number of CDs needed to burn a selection. Smaller files are represented by lower format numbers (e.g. formats 1 and 2). They download faster especially over a dial-up connection. If you have space restrictions on your computer, you may want to choose the lower format numbers. The higher format numbers offer higher fidelity sound, but come in larger file sizes. If you have a high speed internet connection, we recommend downloading the higher format numbers. Choosing a File Delivery Method When burning a CD you will need to download the audio file to your PC first: Download The audio file will be downloaded from the website to your PC. You only need to be connected to the Internet while downloading. What is Downloading? Downloading delivers your audio over the internet and stores it on your computer. You can then burn to CDs. You need enough disk space on your computer to hold the Audio files that are downloaded. If space is an issue, you can delete each audio file from your computer after listening. The file will remain in My Library until the next time you would like to access the title. To find out how big the file will be, look at the size listed below each format. 3

How to Download Using a PC Downloading is an interim step to listening. Using a PC, the file downloads to your computer via AudibleManager (PC software distributed by Audible) in order to be burned to CD or transferred to an AudibleReady mobile device. If you have not already installed AudibleManager on your PC, go to www./software to download and install the program. Most Audible customers download their audio because it is much more convenient to start listening and then be able to stop and place a bookmark, burn to CDs, or transfer to a mobile player. Sample AudibleManager Window 4

Preparing Your Computer for CD Burning You will need AudibleManager version 3.6 or higher to burn CDs. If you have a lower version, un-install your current version and download the latest version at www./software. In order to enable CD Burning on your PC, click on the CD Burn Mode icon on the toolbar. The first time you click on this button, you will receive a prompt that CD burn plug-in is getting installed (Note: you may need to restart your PC after this process). AudibleManager will then activate your CD burner - follow the Activation setup screen to complete the activation process. When CD Burner has been activated, the buttons across the top of AudibleManager will change to indicate CD Burn Mode. CD Burning can only be accessed in the Advanced Mode of AudibleManager. If you need further help or run into any errors during this process, you can find help in AudibleManager or at our website. Simply click on the More Help button, or go to Help in the Windows toolbar. You can switch between your AudibleReady Mobile device and CD Burning by clicking on Devices > Choose Mobile Device in the menu bar of AudibleManager. Burning Audio Titles to CDs Burn your audio titles to CDs and listen wherever you have a CD player. Titles you have downloaded to your computer are listed in the upper half of the AudibleManager window in your Audio Inbox. Titles ready for burning are shown in the lower half. You must have a blank CD-R or CD-R/W in your CD Burner drive. Audible recommends using CD-R discs. CD-RW discs will not always play on various CD players. If there is not a CD in the drive, the message No Disk in Recorder Drive will appear. When the CD is in the correct drive the message will disappear and you will be able to add to your burn list. To burn audio titles, begin by dragging the desired title name from the upper window (Inbox) to the lower window (CD Burn Mode) and dropping it on the list. Once the title(s) appear in the lower window, you can begin the burning process by clicking on Start CD Burn. The Burn Dialog will tell you the time segment to it will burn onto the CD and approximately how many disks you will need for the entire title. When you are ready, click on Burn to continue. 5

Preparing Your Audio to be Burned To burn an audio CD AudibleManager will need to convert your audible files to a format that the Roxio CD burning plug-in can understand. Track Status Just as music CDs have Tracks, Audible content will have tracks to help you find your place or go back to a section you may want to revisit when listening to your audiobooks. Tracks are often based on sections in a book. Disk Status Reports the progress of the disk currently being prepared for burning. When it reaches 100% the files are ready to be burned. 6

Viewing the Progress While Recording Audio CD While your CD is Burning you can see the progress in the dialog box. It will tell you: Track Progress This will display the progress of each track of audio being burned. Overall Progress Reports how full the disk currently being burn is. When it reaches 100% the current burn will be complete. Burning Additional Portions of a Title Some audiobooks will require more than one CD to be burned for the entire title. After each CD is finished, a dialog box will prompt you to either print a label for the CD just burned, or continue to burn the next section of the audiobook. You do not have to burn all of the CDs at once. AudibleManager ensures that the beginning of the next CD starts where the last CD ends. When you are ready to burn the next CD simply follow the steps to burn a CD above. AudibleManager will automatically select the correct starting point based on the last CD you burned. At the end of each successfully burned CD, the dialog box will report the approximate number of CDs left to burn. 7

How Can I Adjust The Start And Or End Point Of The CD When Burning? AudibleManager will automatically calculate how much can fit on a CD and how many will be needed. However you many chose to adjust the starting or ending point for a CD. There are several ways you can adjust the starting point and or ending point: Change the values for the start and or end time in the appropriate boxes indicating the number of hours and minutes Use the slide bar above them to move the start and or end time by dragging the marker along the bar. This feature is useful when you have a damaged CD and would like to burn a replacement. To ensure you are selecting the right spot, you can use the Play/Stop button to listen to the starting point you have selected. Note: You will be prevented from placing more time on the CD than it will hold. 8

Creating Labels For Your CDs As each CD is burned you will have the option to create CD labels. The label will provide you with the following key pieces of information: Title of Audio Program Author Start point and end point CD number if title requires more than one CD To print a label for a CD, simply click on Print Label button at the end of a CD burn. You will then see a preview dialog of what your label will look like. In this dialog you can modify the Title and Author field, or keep the one AudibleManager creates. When you are ready to print click on Print button. 9

How to Schedule Your CD Burning You can set AudibleManager to automatically burn a CD each time an edition of your Audible Subscription is available. Please refer to the Getting Started Guide for Subscriptions for instructions available at www./helpcenter. How to Burn to CD Summary Listen on the go in a car, on your commute, while exercising, or anywhere you have a CD Player. All you need to do is download your audio from My Library, and burn it to CDs for playback on any CD player. Enjoy your new CDs! 10
