RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES TYPE OF RECRUITMENT INITIATIVE (MENU SELECTION) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY 1 Internship Program College students interested in broadcasting careers are given the opportunity to work at the station, receiving academic credit while learning about station operations and the television industry generally. Interns are accepted into various departments. A total of seven students worked at the stations during the reporting period. From May to August 2009, a student from the University of Southern Indiana studying broadcast journalism interned in the news department. From May to August 2009, a student from Ball State University studying broadcast journalism interned in the news department. From August to October 2009, a student from Western Kentucky University studying broadcast journalism interned in the news department. From May to July 2009, a student from University of Kentucky broadcast journalism interned in the news department. From May to August 2009, a student from Vincennes University studying broadcast journalism interned in the news department From June to August 2009, a student from Penn State University studying television meteorology interned in the weather department. During July and August 2009, a student from Purdue University studying television meteorology interned in the weather department. During June to August 2009, a student from Western Kentucky University studying television meteorology interned in the weather department. 2 Participate in Job Fair, Career Day On September 18, 2009, WEHT (TV) participated in the Ball State University Fall TV Roundup in Muncie, Indiana. On Mary 12, 2010, WEHT (TV) participated in the Perry Central High School Career Day. In both instances, we set up a booth, where we spoke with students interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism and directing. Station participants included our News Director and News Anchor.
3 Scholarship Program WEHT(TV) sponsors a scholarship program with Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana, and University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana. The station developed this program in connection with the schools to encourage students interested in broadcast journalism to consider a career at WEHT(TV). Each year, the schools refer students to the station and our News Director selects one qualified candidate from each university. Both students work in WEHT(TV) s news department throughout the year during a paid internship, while also receiving a WEHT(TV) scholarship through their university. 4 Participate in Events Sponsored by or on Behalf of Educational Institutions/Community Organizations Relating to Career Opportunities in Broadcasting a. On March 13, 2009, one of our News Anchors spoke at the Young Democrats Media Seminar. The News Anchor spoke to high school and college students regarding his job at WEHT(TV) and the changing nature of media. b. On January 12, 2010, our Sports Director participated on a panel for a television broadcast class at the University of Evansville. c.
