OUTREACH INITIATIVES: The following outreach initiatives were completed by the SEU during the reporting period: A. Internship Program: Throughout the year, the employment unit operated an internship program designed to assist college students acquire skills necessary for broadcast employment. During this reporting period, the program included: 1. One intern from the University of North Alabama. He worked in the SEU s marketing department January 19, 211 to May 13, 211, assisting with marketing efforts and radio charting. 2. One intern from the International Academy of Design & Technology. He worked in the programming department from September 211 to November 211, assisting with programming, production and promotions. Rvsd Aug 29 EEO Public File Report Page 3

4 3. Another intern from the International Academy of Design & Technology. He began work on March 1, 212 and is assisting in the SEU s programming department. He is currently learning commercial production and will also gain experience in programming, as well as event and program planning. B. Events sponsored by educational institutions related to broadcasting career opportunities: 1. On April 11, 211, the SEU s Production Director demonstrated aspects of audio pitch as it relates to broadcasting and talked about other elements of how radio works. This was done for classes at Heritage School in White House, TN. 2. On April 13, 211, Customer Relations Manager for the SEU met with students and staff at Campbellsville University. Over a series of 3 presentations and 1 recorded interview for television broadcast, the SEU Manager discussed a wide range of topics covering broadcasting trends and resources for new stations. One additional presentation was given to a senior level course to introduce students to Christian Music radio. The goal of this presentation was to familiarize students with current programming trends and opportunities for young radio professionals to gain experience and employment. 3. On May 3, 211, the SEU s Morning Show team hosted a business class comprised of area home-schooled teens known as The LemonAID Club. The students were given the opportunity to learn how a radio station operates as a business. They were also given time behind a microphone as interviewees for a segment about them that aired on the SEU June 3, September 16, 211 Student station tour. Tour of radio studios given to a group of approximately 2 local homeschool students across a wide range of grade levels. The goal was to inform students of how a radio station works, and provide them with information that might help them determine whether broadcasting is a career that might be of interest. Tour included conversations with radio personalities, seeing a live broadcast, and learning how a commercial is produced. C. Hosted Job Fair: 1. The SEU hosted the New Year New Career Job Fair and Luncheon at The Tennessee Christian Chamber of Commerce on January 24, 212, from 9:am 11:am. The event also featured guest speaker Dan Miller, author of 48 Days to the Work You Love. The event had over 16 participants, and 24 resumes were collected. D. 5 The Employment Unit participated in job banks and internet programs designed to provide general information about opportunities in broadcasting and to encourage women and minorities to consider future employment in broadcasting. In addition, all job openings have been posted on websites to ensure broad internet recruitment. During this reporting period the following job banks have been used: Tennessee Association of Broadcasters Christian Women in Media & Arts School of Audio Engineering of Audio/Media Technology E. EEO Training to Management-level Personnel: 1. The Employment Unit continued periodic training sessions for all management personnel involved in hiring and recruiting. Specifically, the training educated them on how to ensure equal employment opportunity and how to prevent discrimination in hiring. These sessions reviewed specific step-by-step procedures for dealing with all openings and all applicants and was conducted April, The Salem Director of Human Resources conducts monthly HR Network Training sessions via teleconference and Powerpoint presentations, which includes review of EEO policies and compliance. The SEU s Office Manager and Assistant participate in these training sessions each month and then routinely communicate with the SEU s General Manager and other management team members to keep all employees apprised of the company and SEU s policy on equal opportunity employment. 3. The SEU participates in an on-line program entitled Employment Law Training (E.L.T.), which is an ongoing program for all entry level managers and above to train them in methods of ensuring equal opportunity and preventing discrimination. Training modules include two (2) hours of Preventing Workplace Harassment and a module covering all forms of anti-discrimination. During this reporting period, ten SEU employees participated in the ELT program. F. Other Initiatives: 1. December 19, Tiger Cub station tour. Tour of radio station given to a group of approximately 2 Tiger Cub scouts and parents. The goal was to inform them how a radio station works, in order for them to earn one of their Tiger Cub badges, as well as providing them with information that might help them determine whether broadcasting is a career that might be of interest.
