GOLDSMITHS University of London INDEPENDENT (LAY) MEMBERS OF COUNCIL: 2015-16 MR NICK BARRON Nick Barron is Managing Director of Edelman UK & Ireland. Edelman is the world's largest communications consultancy and Nick leads its Corporate Reputation team in London, advising clients including Unilever, Manchester City FC and Malala Yousafzai. Nick also cofounded events business Homemade London and serves the company as a Director. Before joining Edelman, Nick spent eight years working for The Football Association and its subsidiary, Wembley National Stadium Ltd. He studied Modern History & Economics at St John's College, Oxford. A Brockley resident, Nick runs hyperlocal online communities Brockley Central and South East Central, which have a combined readership of nearly one million visits a year. MR IAN BORMAN Ian Borman is a solicitor and partner in King & Wood Mallesons LLP, the leading, global law firm headquartered in Hong Kong. He has practiced as a banking and finance lawyer for twenty years, specialising in leverage finance and real estate financing. He is the co-ordinator of KWM s global Acquisition Finance practice. Ian was previously a member of the board of SJ Berwin LLP (before its merger with KWM) and a board member for 10 years (and later chairman) of L Ouverture Trust, an arts and education charity based in New Cross Gate. MR JAMES GRIERSON James Grierson is a Chartered Surveyor who now works on a portfolio of commercial and charitable activities. James was a Senior Director of DTZ, a global property consultancy, since its acquisition in 2007 of Donaldsons where James was a Partner for 17 years. During the 1980s he specialised in advising local authorities, financial institutions and property companies on the development of shopping centres and other large scale commercial property developments across the North of England. In the early 1990s he moved into a business development role, becoming Chairman of the firm's consulting business. This role was focused on public sector organisations and James worked with many Councils, Government Departments and Educational institutions on development, town planning and strategic property consultancy projects. A member of Donaldsons executive board he was heavily involved in the firm s fourfold growth and eventual sale.

Following an undergraduate degree in Land Economy at Aberdeen University and ten years of work James studied for an MBA at Bradford University Management Centre. He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. James has served as an External Examiner in Estate Management at the University of Reading, a non-executive director of North Yorkshire Health Authority and a non- executive director of PMP, the UK's largest firm of specialist sport and leisure consultants. He runs a specialist real estate consultancy, chairs the RICS Public Sector Executive and is a trustee of Lionheart, the York Foundation for Conservation & Craftsmanship and the York Museums Trust. MS JACKIE MORGAN Jackie Morgan is an alumni relations and communications consultant who has extensive experience of the higher education and corporate sectors. Her consulting work draws on ten years experience at London Business School where she took alumni relations to a benchmark set by leading international schools. Previously, she had been for twelve years a Director of Citigate Communications (now Citigate Dewe Rogerson), a leading public relations consulting firm. At London Business School, Jackie was initially Director of Alumni Relations and subsequently Executive Editor of the School s alumni magazine. She was responsible for developing the current annual Alumni Reunion model designed to build alumni engagement and support and for creating significant growth in the network of regional alumni clubs, recognising the increasing proportion of alumni living outside the UK. As editor of the magazine, she introduced a programme of continuous improvement to quality of content, writing and design, consistent with the School s world-class reputation. Jackie has an MBA from London Business School and a BSc (Economics) from the University of Wales. BARONESS MORRIS OF YARDLEY (MS ESTELLE MORRIS) (Chair) Estelle started her career in education as a teacher in an inner city multiracial comprehensive school where she taught for 18 years. In 1992 she entered Parliament and in 2001 became the Secretary of State for Education and Skills. She followed this with 2 years as a Minister at the Department of Culture Media and Sport and left Parliament in 2005. Since then she has combined a career that includes senior posts both in education and the arts as well as being a member of the House of Lords. She now works at the Institute of Effective Education which aims to transform the relationship between education research and practice so that policy making and teaching can become more evidence based. She is a trustee of the The National Poetry Archive. She is a regular contributor to Guardian Education. DR BARRY QUIRK Barry has been Chief Executive at Lewisham since 1994. He has worked in local government for over 35 years, with service and management experience in five London Councils. Lewisham has a strong track record for innovation and high quality public service delivery as well as for exemplary community engagement. Lewisham is an inner London

Council serving a socially diverse population of 300,000 people. The Council has a directly elected Mayor and 54 Councillors. Barry is involved in policy development and public management at London regional and national levels. He leads on health sector changes, and public sector workforce development across London. He served a four year term (2002-6) as a Non- Executive Director on the Board of HM Revenue & Customs. He was an independent member of two capability reviews of HM Treasury (in 2001 and 2008). Between 2004 and 2009, Barry was appointed by Government to be the National Efficiency Champion for local government. In 2007 he produced a landmark report for Government on the potential transfer of public assets to community groups. And between 2006-8 he was the President and Chairman of SOLACE (the national association for local government chief executives). In 2011 his book, Reimagining Government, on the future challenges to politics, policy and public management was published by Palgrave MacMillan. He has extensive experience managing elections at all levels of Government and is the regional returning officer for London. Barry has a PhD in social and political geography. SIR DAVID REDDAWAY Sir David Reddaway is Clerk (CEO) of The Goldsmiths Company. He is also a Non- Executive Director of Beko plc; and a member of the International Advisory Board of Bath University s School of Management. During his previous career as a British diplomat, he was Ambassador to Turkey; Ambassador to Ireland; High Commissioner to Canada; UK Special Representative for Afghanistan; and Charge d Affaires in Iran. Other overseas assignments were to Argentina, India, and Spain. David read History at Cambridge, and Persian at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. He had a sabbatical year as a Fellow at Harvard. Before university, David was a volunteer secondary school teacher in Ethiopia, teaching Biology, Ethiopian History and English. MR DAVID RICHARDS David is a postgraduate of Goldsmiths in Social Policy and Administration and has lived in the New Cross area for over twenty years. David began his working life in the voluntary sector in South East London. He currently works for Standard Chartered Bank as a Managing Director in the Corporate Finance area. He specialises in structured finance. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in 1991 and has worked in the financial services industry since 1995. David has been a Governor at a local primary school, Edmund Waller, and has worked to support many local charities. MS CATHY RUNCIMAN Cathy has worked in media - business and consumer publishing and events - for over 20 years. Cathy is currently acting as the CEO for OpenDemocracy, an independent global media platform that seeks to challenge power and encourage democratic debate across the

world. She is also a founder of Atlas of the Future, a non-profit organisation creating digital media, events, and magazines to support the mission of democratising the future. Previously, as Time Out Group's International Managing Director, Cathy was responsible for licensing, IP and international business development. She oversaw the launch of Time Out publications and online businesses in 18 markets including China, Russia, India, Australia, Spain and Lebanon. Cathy has also worked in both Argentina and France, here she created and ran a successful Paris-based conference business for a North American business publisher. Cathy took her BA (Hons) in Spanish and Latin American Studies as a mature student at Goldsmiths College while working in a freelance capacity for a number of UK media companies including EMAP and CMP Media. MS VANESSA SHARP Vanessa Sharp is an experienced commercial solicitor. She was, for many years, the General Counsel for KPMG in the UK and Europe and prior to then a solicitor at the City law firm Ince and Co. She was also the Compliance Officer for the KPMG Legal Practice. She is experienced in providing commercial legal advice including in relation to risk management and governance issues. Vanessa is now undertaking a number of consultancy roles including in regulated professional services business. She is a trustee of Create, an arts education charity and a Fellow of the RSA. Vanessa is also a practicing jeweller and silversmith. MS JESSICA WANAMAKER Jessica Wanamaker is a City trained solicitor and has led a range of voluntary sector/not for profit arts and/or regeneration organisations. In 2010 she became the first Chief Executive of Newham NDP, a community development and regeneration charity, having previously run the Institute for Conservation (ICON). She planned, launched managed Newham Arts Development Foundation - bringing artists together with the community and commercial sectors across a borough where the arts and creative industries can become robust tools for local regeneration. Ms Wanamaker s first postgraduate studies were in the political economy of modern China. She later undertook further studies in Arts Management at Goldsmiths. She is currently on the board of the Barts and London Hospital Charity and of Contemporary Applied Arts (CAA); she is an Alderman of London Borough of Southwark where she was an elected Councillor with various front bench responsibilities including Finance and Administration, Social Services and Equalities. MR TOM WILSON Tom retired in 2015 after a career in Trade Unions and Skills. He set up and was Director of Unionlearn, the Education, Training and Skills arm of the TUC. Tom is now Chair of GTA England, the national network of Group Training Associations which provide an apprenticeship service for 20,000 small employers; Chair of Believe in Young People, a

charity which links the worlds of employment and education; Vice Chair of Sussex Downs College; a Trustee of the University for Industry Charitable Trust which promotes ICT in education for adults; a visiting fellow of UCL and Wolverhampton University. He also works with the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD, the International Labour Organisation, and the Ethical Trading Initiative. Tom is a fellow of the CIPD. MR PHILIP WRIGHT Philip is on the Board of Common Purpose, a charity and social enterprise in leadership development. In addition he is a Director of Allia, a charitable organisation that creates opportunities for people to invest their money for social benefit. He is also is a director of Retail Charity Bonds plc, an issuing vehicle created to raise loan finance for charities in the UK through bonds issued to retail and wholesale investors and listed on London Stock Exchange. Finally he is Chairman of Beyond Food Foundation, a charity which seeks to motivate and inspire people who are at risk of or have experienced homelessness. Philip was Chairman of Digital Theatre in the online media sector from January 2009 to October 2015. Philip was Acting Chair Of Barts Health from April to July 2015, vice Chair and non- executive from April 2012 to April 2015. Previous to that he was on the board of NHS London from October 2009 to July 2010 and of Barts and The London from November 2010 to March 2012. He was Chair of the Lord Mayor's Appeal Committee for 2013/2014. Philip was a partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers until December 2011 and has a background in corporate finance, consulting, business recovery and board level issues. He has worked extensively in several countries including Japan, Australia, Hungary and Germany. He is also the author of a book "In Search of Shareholder Value"(1997).
