Program Components Essentials of Business and Leadership (August) Your education begins with an intensive component called the Essentials of Business and Leadership. This introduction to the MBA allows you to develop your own framework for business success. Set goals for your time in the program, assess your skills in leadership and begin to acquire the tools you need to be successful in business. The Foundation Module (September April) Every MBA offers the basics of business: accounting, finance, human resources, marketing, operations and strategy. But you need more than that. The 21st century demands that you be able to work in a global marketplace where the value of sustainable practices is just as important as company profits. Elements that enhance the UVic MBA include courses in sustainable business development, international business, consulting methods and information technology. Integrative Management Exercises Our Integrative Management Exercise (IME) and International Integrative Management Exercise (IIME) are essential client-based projects designed to help you apply both your cumulative business knowledge and develop your global mindset and skill-set. In the IME, your team will research and analyze business issues and present your recommendations. The IIME is a 10 12 day international consulting project that takes place in China or India. You will apply both your cumulative business knowledge and develop your global mindset and skill-set. Major Consulting Project Work experience as a consultant is a valuable element of your MBA toolkit. The fourth part of the UVic MBA allows you to work with a team to complete a consulting project for a business client. From marketing plans to complete business strategies and feasibility studies you will spend four to six months working closely with clients and faculty supervisors to examine issues, analyze options and provide recommendations to the client in a final report and presentation.
